  • I have a simmilar setup with a box that I build the sides up and add soil as they grow taller, this also allows me to un screw one of the sides & carefully dig around for 'new' spuds.

  • You can also layer straw and manure/compost as the plant grows. A 50 gallon drum will harvest a boatload of potatoes using this method because the potatoes grow the entire length of the root which would be huge in a 50 gallon drum. I'm enjoying some freshly harvested red potatoes right now.

  • plant a potatoe -gets a potatoe hmmm interesting

  • how long to harvest?

  • So did this work!?

  • i had seeds from walmart and they did not do good ,i got a bag of potatoes and let them go to seed and they are still growing in my garden, the seed potatoes i dug up and are small potatoes so i will buy them buy the big bag in grocery dept

  • store bought vegetables are sprayed with an anti sprouting/growth agent,, potatoes ,garlic,,onions ,, ect... that's why they don't do as well ..if they do work well, your just lucky . also you won't get even close to a great tasting vegetable as the ones you buy from a garden supply ! ... times are tight but some things are not worth being cheap about.

  • awesome thanks!

  • nice idea

  • Did this not work out? Could not find the harvest vid.

Thanks! I've see people getting so few potatoes, I was hoping someone might figure out what causes the "dud" buckets, assuming, naturally, similar ferts/sun.

Are the roots heat sensitive? This would be a great technique for the public to know if it could give decent yields.

Hydro/aeroponics too are fantastic and WILL half or better, growth time.

(All these new techs and SB 510 to put the kabosh on $!)

  • @UnoRaza store potatoes are determinate so they can be harvested at the same time ,,, you have to use indeterminate potatoes for this setup... thats the problem,,, lack of research(google)

  • @stymye Do 5 gallon buckets work well for this or are the bags so much better it's not worth messing with buckets and their rigid walls? Thx!

  • @UnoRaza I've seen amazing results from both

  • fill up with sand you get more taters

  • I just threw my in my back yard and it's doing a great job!

  • My first attempt was a total failure, I got none because of aphids. This year I got a good ten pounds of totally amazing tasting potatoes. I ate lots of them raw. It's time to harvest, after they flower and start dying off (turning dried out looking brown). I had something else I wanted the space for so I harvested early. If I had waited, there were about a hundred extra tubers the size of my figertip that would have been as big as my fist a month later. I'm going to do it again in August.

  • when it turns fall burn the tops and the taters get bigger

  • hello I have a tip for you ... as they grow like you said add more soil or compost but you also have to make sure you cover the whole plant everytime it groes about 6 inches cover it compleeeeeetly.. this will result in many more potatos.. good luk .. and the plants looked fantastic!! 10 thumbs up..

  • Great Video!

  • how did they turn out? update plz!

  • Yes, I did! In stores now!

  • Did you make this video with you fancy schmancy new iPhone? The video quality is really nice.
