I think that is the gravity shunt in operation at 1.25 but I am no expert, great view of Newport marshalling yard at 3.08 This video is an absolute treasure
Having had holidays the lived on IOW ,it was nice to see the old film ,it is a shame that non IOW train were at the end Cowes station is now a CO-OP store
Oh how wonderful to see those old trains again. Living in Cowes as a child through late teens, I used the rail frequently to get to Newport or Ryde. Always loved sticking my head out of the window when we went through the tunnels. Remember the old "sash" windows that you pulled up or let down with a leather strap? And I will never forget the smell of those coal fired engines. Thank you for bring back a host of wonderful memories.
This brought back so many wonderful memories of holidays on the IoW when I was a young lad, the highlight for me being the steam railways - fantastic. Incidentally, stayed in a guest house, no 1 Station Road, Sandown and spent most of the holiday on Sandown Station or travelling on the trains. Many thanks.
How this terminus station should still be in Cowes today. Marples and Beeching caused more damage to Cowes and the whole country than the Luftwaffe ever did or wanted to. The station was in the middle of Cowes High Street.
It is lovely to see the old engines again. But although the film looks very "old fashioned", remember that by 1963 the first communication satellites were being launched. It seemas incongruous.
Im surprised no ones mentioned the Scotsman, great to see particularly as lot of the of the lines are long gone and sadly before my time! Real history, Thanks again.

Excellent stuff Alex! I will watch it greater detail and attempt to put names to some of the locations (although we've only lived on the IOW for 4 years!). I think I recognise some of the places that haven't changed much. Another option would be to send a link to Havenstreet by email because some of their drivers are probably in the film!
If you're adding osund be aware that IOW engines had hooters rather than whistles

Well spotted Nick! But then I've only lived here for 4 years! Not an ex-driver by any chance are you? :)

Had 30 years on the footplate (most of them as a Driver) but nearest I got to IoW was when I was based at Eastleigh!

03:00 definitely Newport Station

02:47 is Newport Viaduct as well.

And I think 02:06 is Newport Viaduct. Sadly, now Medina Way, the only bit of "motorway" on the Island!

I've just spotted one at 1:30 on the counter. It's Cowes!
I'll keep looking.
