As an American I find this video offensive and in poor taste. Many people said there was a bias on the ref's parts and that the russians were given 3 opportunities to win the game after it should have been over anyways. Game clock wasn't reset correctly, the out of bounds throw in / push down the court was clocked correctly, etc. Check it out!

Ive watched this many times and I totally agree. the buzzer sounded early on both attempts so if either inbounds pass is allowed they,and not the US, get the shaft. people are overreacting, it was just a game. You win some and you lose some .. big deal. This video was particularly pro-soviet as it didn't even show them missing a shot. While I thought the Americans didn't even score a single point in the game. The game was closer than we all anticipated - it could have gone either way.

As an American I find this video offensive and in poor taste. Its like you pretend there was no reprieve, no controversy and the final play was a clean honest basket to win the game with no assists from the referees, judges or anyone else involved prior to that play whatsoever. This video also seems to take joy in American failure and the declining morale of American fans throughout the contest. If you are Russian, I can kinda understand it, otherwise I really can't.

Many people said there was a bias on the ref's parts and that the russians were given 3 opportunities to win the game after it should have been over anyways. Game clock wasn't reset correctly, the out of bounds throw in / push down the court was clocked correctly, etc. Check it out!

The USA was right to refuse the medals. But the game referee is not at fault here. The real culprit is R. William Jones, the FIBA head who had no in-game regulatory authority but who came out of the stands and demanded the awarding of the 3 seconds to the Soviets on the third in-bounds play. He later admitted that he overstepped his bounds, and then he added this pathetic gem: "The Americans need to learn how to lose."
Very typical of the rest of the world, cheating to teach silly life lessons.

what a fuckin one sided video...no us baskets. and clearly the referee tells the guy to back up while they are inbounding the ball which makes it easy for him to throw the ball. There are no rules that say you have to back up and give the inbounder space to pass the ball in. you just can be across the line. We didnt accept those silver medals and we never will.

First attemp - look USSR coach showed that he ask timeout before two falls from USA. So the referees had to stop the game after score 50-49. But they didn.t make it. so where is a mistake here?
Second attemp - Please watch at the referee table - the man showed when USSR player put the ball into the game that there is no 3 sec on the table. So what is wrong here? There is no 3 sec - each man can watch it on video. So what is wrong?

This is difficult to watch. The Americans did not use their advantage in quickness, and instead played a slowdown style which allowed the Russians to hang with the them. Coaching style lost this game. This one hurts. It should never come down to that fateful final ending. Iba was the wrong coach for this squad.

Uh sorry, but that's patendly false. I'm not sayin' Iba was the greatest coach in history, far from it, but the real fact is that the '72 team wasn't particularly talented. Just look at the roster and check to see what their pro careers were like. No real star in the bunch, no . Auerbach couldn't have coached the team, he was a NBA coach and that wasn't allowed at the time and as great as Wooden was, he was also blessed to have two of the greatest centers to ever play college ball.

a true athlete knows that a game is a contraption of technicalities. the outcome would have been equally questionable had the US won. sloppy work by officials and game-staff made the ending of the game unclear. a true champion understands rules and rulings and knows their place as an athlete.

Ive watched this many times and I totally agree. the buzzer sounded early on both attempts so if either inbounds pass is allowed they,and not the US, get the shaft. The Us players did a poor job on the final inbounds and should never have allowed the Soviet(Belov?) the score that easily. The players should man up and accept the silver medals.

Try having that happen to you... I bet you wouldnt say that if you were on the team. the inbounders foot was over the line and there was on obvious foul when that guy "scored" the basket. And in reply to your other comment... the point here is that under normal circumstances, no ref would ever tell a player to do something when he wasn't violating any rule.
