I belive it was to make it more belivable or realistic but the underlying reason was to do away with some of the more racist anotations in curent society. On both sides, marvel and dc some of the most powerful bussiness men and intellectuals are black now. Whats more is they are sophisticated and respected. Why is that bad? Yeah, I dunno, haven't read the new marvel comics much(ever since the horrible ultimates came out), but I definitely agree in the new movies. Color really shouldn't matter, the difference is whether it has reasoning or is just a nod to the whiny angry racism-obsessed minority groups, or actually to fit the character better. Me, I can't think of anyone that fits nick fury better than Samuel L. Jackson in attitude. Now, Beyonce wanting to play Wonder Woman because she's black, that's another story

Many of the Young X-Men are very popular among X-Fans and the new and old characters I would not consider B-Grade. Storm is an A list hero, Luke Cage is more popular then ever, and the Black Panther is, I think, the most badass of the Marvel Heroes.

Dust is afgani and is considerably powerful.

Surge is Japanese, Prodigy is African American, Rockslide is Hispanic as well as Sunspot (original New Mutant member), Warpath and Mirage are both Native American. and I could go on...

to biguy617: Aside from flight, Pixie can also produce a hallucinigenic "pixie dust" which causes people to trip-out. After the "Quest for Magik" story in "New X-Men" a year or two ago, Pixie (while trapped with the young x-men in the hellish Limbo dimension) gained a "Soul Dagger" (made from a piece of her soul) and the ability to teleport long distances using magic.
