  • Fantastic

  • Erich was a very good friend of mine, but became a recluse in a small village, no EMAIL, pitty H (c:

  • @valvetrom: How is Erich Ferstl doing? He must be 77 by now. I have several of his haunting movie/TV soundtracks in my mind, but hardly anybody still remembers them.

    P.S. Ich spreche auch deutsch.

  • Is this from the really gifted Erich Ferstl, who played Guitar ,piano and percussions, mainly in Munich???

  • @valvetrom Yes, just his theme and the accompanying line. The arrangement is my own. I had a friend who had his record and played it for me in the late 1980's and it stuck in my head. Do you know him?

  • FANTASTIC !!!!

Your Albuns need come to Brazil !

    Great Greg!

  • Masterfull.

  • Fabulous perfornance, very inspiring in so many ways

Thanks for posting and keep improving

  • Greg Howard is the truth! See him live, buy his CDs, etc. He is awesome. Great person, as well.

    (Saw him with Manring!)

  • @madtiger111 Very kind of you madtiger. Which Manring show did you see? we did a lot of them together. Greg

  • Which album does he play this song on?

  • @Herreken

    Hi Herreken,

It's on my CD, "Sol" Thanks for watching,

    Greg

  • perfect music for my mind

  • loool Scarborough Fair with Bossanova time signature!!!! amazinnnnnng

  • mind boggling! he even weaves in "Scarborough fair"! after around 4:00

  • this is truly amazing!!! Holy fucking shit!!!

  • this guy is amazing

  • incredible stuff!

  • Great!!!!

  • thats fucking nuts..i feel like i'm in spain....i want one so bad

  • That is pure talent.

  • Greg Howard is FUCKIN AWESOME!

  • Greg Howard is the best Chapman Stick player out there, period. I am not too fond of his style of music, but I am always in awe about his abilities.

  • I really like the little bit of parsley sage rosemary and thyme that is thrown in towards the end. Great playing, and a cool song

  • I'm getting a Megatar "truetapper storm", tuned in reverse fourths.

  • well you won't be able to do this on it.... Happy Tapping, Greg

  • Megatar's don't even come close to Stick. Traktor Dope-az is a bloated fathead

  • Heh, I bought my Stick from Traktor about ten years ago. T'was a pretty cool guy, price was right for a used low serial ironwood Stick (6xx). But yeah, having tried out Megatars and Warrs, I prefer the lower string tension and weird tone of original Sticks. Only real gripe is having to wear a belt and stand up... not exactly ideal for lazy scales while watching tv on the couch.

  • it's a skill being that lazy, and I think I've nailed it ;P I slouch on the couch to play (try?) the stick most of the times I pick it up.

  • IMPRESIONANTE !!!

  • Greg you ROCK!!

  • This is simply fascinating... Now I'm sad I missed you at the 2003 jazz festival! Are you coming back to Montreal in 2009? If so, I can assure you I will be there!

Keep up the incredibly good work!

  • FantaSTICK

    I couldn't resists. ;-)

  • Wow, great playing on an awesome instrument! I want a chapman stick... great sound quality btw and great performance skills. You just got 5 star'ed, fav'ed and sub'ed.

  • this is great!!!jesus, you are amazing

  • greg ,are you using an emg block pickup there? or is it the pasv-4?

  • that's an ACTV-2 EMG. The instrument was tuned in Matched Reciprocal tuning (in case you're interested)

  • keeping this beast tuned would probably be a challenge for me....nice playing

  • I agree with parkit66, this is a great example to show the capabilities of the Stick. Fantastic playing, original and very atmospheric.

  • Great playing and great music. Are each pickup on separate channels and do you use an A-B-Y footswitch to re-direct wet and dry inputs? I have to show people your videos because my explanations on what a Chapman Stick just does not do justice to what you and the Stick can do. And the reaction is always the same: Amazed

Any chance of more videos? I see that Rob has put some new music and would like to see some stuff from. Thanks

  • the first video i saw that introduced me to this instrument was a demonstration you made, I'm guessing a good many years ago, and just that demo blew me away, this here is amazing too! i can only hope to have that kind of coordination some day. purely amazing.

  • SirDewdalot, I don't mind constructive comments or opinions, but I'm not really interested in seeing abusive language directed at other eople who come here to check out the music. So some of your comments have been deleted. thanks for checking out the music.

  • Hey Greg!

Are there any tourdates planned in Europe - especially in Germany?

I'd like to see you live sometime =)

Maybe at the German annual Ars-Tapguitar Festival in Brunswick!

  • Yeah, you can do that nothing much better than him right?

  • Your playing is wonderful. I want to make good music like yours.

Can you tell me what the tuning of your stick is? I am going to order one, but don't know which tuning is better for me. And what gauge of strings do you prefer?

    Thanks.

  • Thanks for the kind comment, cmanc8. The instrument I play in this video is in Matched Reciprocal 6+6. I've since changed over to Classic 6+6 (which is the same inverted 5ths bass tuning, but I've changed to a minor 3rd on top of the bass.

The inverted 5ths on the bass make all of this motion and two-handed bass stuff possible. Don't forget to check out the forum on stickistDOTcom form some great discussions about the various tunings.

  • What loop?

  • thanks for the clarification. to each his own.

  • Absolutely amazing! You are truly talented, dude. Great video, too!

  • this is like the heaven sound. thanks for share this wobderfull vid, keep sharing this kind of magic. peace

  • Amazing. I regularly have this on repeat, it sounds a million dollars. The section from 3:50 to 5:00 makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up every single time. Oh to have this kind of talent.

  • Great stuff, man!

  • Like playing two guitars at once - and I can't even master one. How annoying!

  • So cool. Great job!

  • That damned device confounds me... I tried it once... and I'll never try it again

  • Fucking hell yeah, straight up. \m/

  • Hell yeah-Kick ASS. As goofy as that thing looks, you sure can throw out a wall of sound with it.

  • ho my goooooooooooooooooooooooooooood

  • Nice allusion to Scarborough Fair. I dig the whole thing. Very nice. Thanks for sharing that! It's a privilege and a pleasure to see it.

  • I really really dig the stick and you're playing. Makes me want one so bad. Best of luck, and keep on rocking.

  • If you got a couple of grand and don't mind waiting 9 months to a year you can get one.

  • wow! this just takes you away -- excellent performance!

  • Sick as hell! Very cool rhythmic stylings, and improv. Sound is pretty good too.

  • Cool to compare the sound of the Stickup and the ACTV-2! Nice playing, as always!
