These processors only have three cores because they were originally quad-core processors on which one of the cores failed inspection. Don't buy the rejects - get a real quad core...

Uh...You're wrong.

During the testing process, they take a sample from that wafer of chips, if one of them has a defect, they laser-etch out one core on the whole batch and send them to the P2 710/720 process. Some of those chips that they laser-etch out are fully functional, and the laser-etching wasn't successful, allowing some lucky people to unlock the fourth core and be 100% stable.

I would get a Phenom 2 over the Core i7 anyday. For only $199 you can overclock it. You cant overclock the i7 for $199 right. AMD and ATI best bang for your buck.

He is wrong on one thing; The guy from AMD says they proud themselves on long generation of cpu support, referring too using updated cpu's on previous motherboards. The 939 pin was a good motherboard and AMD killed it, shortly thereafter AMD claims they wont make that mistake again by killing motherboard compatability with new cpu's. But there again they killed it with a short lifespan. Anyone else remember the 939.

yes you can, aslong as you watch the voltages and temps. I oced my 9850 be to 3.2ghz and my 940 to 3.890 ghz.

You yourself appear to be a complete AMD fanboy. P4 had a clock speed advantage obviously which helped it edge ahead of an XP in most cases at the same price, but then Athlon 64 came out and we all know the story there...The i7 however is quite a different story. Check any benchmark and the i7 will always come out ahead because architecturally it is just superior. The Phenom II's are meant to compete directly with existing Core 2 Quads, and overall are better I'd say.
