A Hind! Awesome! Love the sound effects to go with the animation, especially the tail rotor. Sounded like in Transformers when Blackout started his up. Great job. Considering how big that chopper is and it's an attack chopper at that, it really would make a great transformer. I plan on doing a Comanche because of its' cool stealthy looks.
@Gr1mmReap3rT2 Actually the audio is clipped from a very short segment where Blackout is joining the battle in the city street. So.. I can't take credit for the audio sadly. :P But yeah, we always thought a Hind would make a great transformer. Good luck on the Comanche. :)
@CGIPadawan Thanks. I'd also like to mention I like the sense of weight when it lands, and it's seemingly similiar design to say, a T-Rex or something, just noticed the tail rotor was actually, "his tail" lol.
@Gr1mmReap3rT2 Yes, I was really thinking about it. Context. "How do I let people know that this is bad news for the guy on the roof?" So I went with a "monster" type of look. Single Red Eye, the "wings", the tail, and the Dinosaur Style Legs, the clawed hands. The peacock tail main rotor was also something that took quite some time to design. But I think it looks pretty unique.
@CGIPadawan It's definitely unique and that's what I like about it. I like any artist that strives to make something unique rather than following a similiar formula.
@RedNForcer Yup.. that's kind of like the idea there. I'm really very humbled that this short short clip gets the response it does from people who see it. Thanks.
make some more plaese the helicopter is really cool do an animation fake trailer for tf3 cus theres so many since you animate it could look like a real trailer
Yeah, I would love to do more... and more than just one robot too. We're working on something right now.. something big. You might be hear about it soon.
As for more vehicular aliens I've been thinking about that. I am really really amped that so many of you love this subgenre (like I do!). We MIGHT go back to this.. with more artists.. more planning... more FX with a story that's really our own.
@Actingmaniacs : Actually come to think of it you're right! I only saw TF2 a few weeks ago (shock?). And I was watching the scene where Jetfire transforms in the Museum and there were portions that did remind me of the helicopter.
This is purely coincidence though. But that is a good observation.
@Theicemonkeyjr : It's Blender, like it says in the top right corner. ;) Great software. Does it all! Modelling, UV, Animation, Video Editing... and it's FREE.
I am thinking about it. But being the Director that I am I'd like it to be a more "real" situation. With more humans, and possibly a second transforming character and a redesign of this one incorporating Multi-Res sculpting and more advanced Displacement Mapping.
For now, though, I'm working on a different short....More involved with humans, chess, and machines. Maybe one day I get back to giant robots that turn into cars and things, okay?
Thanks. Actually I had been thinking about doing "Transformable Actors" quite some time ahead of the Transformers film. So it was quite good timing. I was in the right frame of mind to understand the considerations for 3D when the film opened. A lot of the things you talk about with the "myths" of realism are spot on. Good luck with your Optimus Prime project.
Hmmm..... I'd hate to spoil more because we really want to one day do a full-length version of the story.... but as a hint..... think about Klingon names. :-)
He did he was a turret in the beginning and then if you did enough damage on him he would transform and then when you hit him with enough damage he would transform and turn into a AH-64 Apache and fly away to the police station. Then you would have to hit him enough again until he would fly away. Then he would be at the park so thats when you beat him I think so yeah... Good luck on your game if your stuck on a mission.
Well... I was trying to capture some of that "stop motion" like quality of the old film miniature days.... So I was intentionally making him move more like a weighed down T-Rex rather than something more agile. I must have been thinking about ED-209 when I was animating him... hehehe.
Well, there is no continuation (at least for now). When I meant "future work" I did mean.. future work. I've moved on to doing a movie called "Game Theory" which is about Chess. It's a "whole story" roughly 2 - 3 minutes.
No.. The actor isn't supposed to be Shia. But I always felt it would be nice to use something to show "scale". A human actor seemed totally natural for this purpose. This same actor is improved upon and re-used in "Game Theory".
The Dust Cloud occurs below the helicopter from 00:15 to 00:19. Watch around the helipad's surface and you will see something swirling, growing and dissipating.
Yes. Agreed. But this is why I am also moving towards collaborative projects. Because when there are more people involved, one can pay attention to details.
In america you Destroy ROFL coptor, in soviet russia ROFL copter destroy you.

In the game he has the mode of Shockwave.
skittles569 2 years ago
I believe Shockwave was an AH-64 helicopter in the video game... and he also turned into a gun turret I think.

Awesome video! The materials on the transformer could have been brighter and more shiny, though. and reflective. Looks a little plastic now.
