Thats great , I know he was already captain but at that time he was new to the A320, it's a shame that he and Sully, two very experienced pilots have 2 jobs, to make ends meet, I heard that jeff does consulting on the side, I think Sully really likes his Safety business, but hopefully after this they wont have to work these jobs because they have to, but because they want to.
Actually, Capt. Jeff was a building contractor. Capt. Sully's venture as a consultant was rather new. Both Captains were dealing with some very serious financial difficulties due to the draconian pay cuts they've endured.
I hope this situation has helped ease their financial problems, but I worry about the financial strains other experienced airline Captains continue to face.
Oh sorry I meant contractor, I'm very worried too. You know about flight 3407 and the God awful fight crew that was responsible for that accident ?, I'm scared to fly now after hearing their conversation, if you haven't heard it yet get ready to be pissed , it's just a public warning of what type of training these pilots are getting, I think they only need 300 hours now, it's scary, because like you say these experienced pilots will probably leave the aviation field due to financial strains
Colgan 3407's demise was not criminal, but it sure should have been. Colgan's demise was not only due to inexperience, it was caused by a severe lack of cockpit discipline. That yahoo who was in the left seat wasn't fit to fly a kite.
Fortunately, I'm blessed to be able to fly Air Mooney most the time, and Southwest can pretty much take me wherever else I need to go. I avoid the regionals like the plague, and I don't allow my family to fly on them either.
Does anybody here understand the stripes on the forearms of the suits worn by pilots? Obviously its some type of rank or recognition, but Sully who has 4 stripes has flown just under 20,000 hours, whereas the 1st Pilot has flown just over 20,000 hours yet he only has 3 stripes on his suit
These people are, as you say, heroes. we must also remember that getting aircraft down safely was only the first part of the equation. Keeping the souls aboard safe, evacuating them, and getting them to safety was also critical. Also, remember that ATC had to deal with Cactus 1549's emergency, and keeping the other air traffic moving smoothly was no easy feat.
I look back on this event, and I'm reminded of the words of The Late President of The United States Ronald Reagan.

These guys must have been exhausted from all the press and interviews. That alone would give you PTSD.

Capt. Jeff had just completed training for the Airbus A320. His first flight as F.O. was with Captain Sully.

Sully should have won the Nobel Peace Prize.

The Nobel Peace Prize?? Not really.
Having said that, I think that Captain Sully and his flight crew deserve all deserve The American Medal of Freedom.

@fivecougaroz:
Captain Sully and Captain Jeff are both highly qualified and highly skilled pilots.
Captain Jeff Skyles was an airline Captain, but due to the seniority system, he was bumped back to being a 1st Officer.
Seems rather unfair, but then again, who better was there to be in the Cockpit with Captain Sully??
