After a month of trying everything, the phone was replaced within warranty and the problem was gone. I'm running 2.3.3 for over a month now, nothing has changed on my backbone, and I frequently obtain a new IP leases via my providers remote DHCP server.. Although the IP is not always the same it keeps working.
mine will not obtain an IP, and manually connecting shows it connected but doesn't grant me internet access. Think i have tried it all, and this is the second time i run into this with this phone . The first time upgrading from 2.3.3 to firmware 2.3.5 resolved the issue, but 10 days later problem is back again.
dude i was having the same problem an i found this you have to manually setup the IP this will fix this problem samsung really needs work on this fucking problem, Settings -> Wireless and Network -> Wi-Fi Settings, now click the left-side context-menu button on your phone to bring-up Advanced option and click it, Now to get things working we will need to make cellphone use a static IP address for Wi-Fi, check the Use Static IP option and proceed with entering values manually,
It didn't work on my phone!!

My browser does not work in wifi mode. It works in data network mode. Pease suggest me any solution.

i have found the solution and have post just today my fix.
press the right power button for a few seconds till the options screen comes up.
deactivate data network mode. Works like a charm everytime and no having to restart the phone
