ChiknStroker, sorry to say that this all happened in 1973,which now makes me 52 years old. I still have 4 Lighthouse albums(yes, albums) in perfect condition. I have a five year old daughter who loves to listen to Pretty Lady.
The rock band I was in back in my high school days had ten members and we loved Lighthose. When we auditioned for our first paying gig at Neshaminy Mall in Langhorne,PA we played this song.We got the job! Thanks Lighthouse!
Hi from Bensalem and our lovely Neshaminy Mall! Or the Oxford Valley Mall in Langhorne. You must've sounded awesome!!! What's the band's name? Are you still playing gigs??? Taker EZ or NE way U can!!!
heard this song this morning on a buffalo radio station brought back some great memories thanks bluesy for posting the great rythyms and horn section puts them right up there with blood sweat and tears and chicago among others a great era in music enjoy your playing also bluesy keep it up
How many bands could combine FOUR genres of music into one song, and have it work SO well!!,,clean big band power, solid bluesy vocals, tight flowing jazz piano solo, powerful rock guitar ending... now THAT may be why this is such an incredible song...Ya think!!
This is a pretty good port - is this off the vinyl LP? Because this doesn't sound anything like the piece of crap remastered version on the compilation CD which sounds EQ'd to death...
man o man!..saw them here in town last summer..and even though they aren't what they use to be..there's still NOTHING like a Lighthouse concert..on a moonlit lakeside in the breezy summer air..fukkin A man..fukkin A!!..Mike from Canada
I was about 5 or 6. I still remember my dad, with his long hair and long mustache and beard, listening to this on Saturday mornings...wow, I'm gettin' old...lol
Great tune, have only heard a handful of times, yet has etched its mark on my favorite hits of all-time.....
"we'll fly to the east, we'll fly to the west.....there's no place we can't call our own"....we'll fly to the north, we'll fly to the south, the planet will become our own"......
Lighthouse made a monumental mistake, they decided not to go to Woodstock, that was their artistic death. They were as good as Blood,Sweat and tears, Chicago,Cold Blood ,Tower of Power, maybe even better but....fortunatelly there are some documents like this one to make canadians proud of such a great band.
I Agree:)But Regardless,There Sound will Live on Forever:)Just Imagine If They Were Still Rockin Now,They are So Inspiring to Begin With:)Peace and Happiness:)
bluesy13:could you post that son OLD MAN? it is an awsome piece with a long trombone solo and I think it is in that same album of One fine Morning. How about some CHilliwack? would you have some of it?maybe some Steppen Wolf, the Pusher
I Have a Vinyl Collection That My Father Gave Me,2000 Albums,He Attended Woodstock and also was Best Friends With Miles Davis,Name One Tune You Want me to Post From the Origional Vinyl and I will Post it:)I Have Some real Rare Ones,Mott the Hoople,Origional Bush,Grand Funk,Free,Cream,Jimmy Smith,Albert King, etc, etc
You're lucky to have that collection. I recently found this Lighthouse song on a CD. I've kept some of my old vinyl as well and have an autographed LP by Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues. Do you have anything by Focus, from Holland or Premiata Forneria Marconi from Italy? I've got both on vinyl and CD.
Thanks for posting this video. I remember that song, but NEVER knew the Title or what group it was. I haven't heard this song in probably 30 years...but man, is it GREAT!!
We saw Lighthouse at Fillmore East in New York in 1970. (I think they fronted the Grateful Dead.) We later saw them at The Newport Jazz Festival in 1971, the year of the riots. One morning at Newport we sat in the stands while Lighthouse was practicing. When they played "8 Miles High" they brought the morning house down. Skip Prokop took a bow but told us it was only practice. But the audience cared not. We later saw them at Carnegie Hall in 1972 from which came the Lighthouse Live album.
With Regard to Art I say Beauty is in the Eyes of the Beholder!!!!!The Same Goes for Music, and I have Come to Appreciate Where the Music or Art came From. The Individual who Creates Whatever it may be has a Gift and That gift is Talent:)Money is a Nice Thing and Can Comfort You But The Gift of talent that an individual Beholds is Priceless in My Book:) I Think These are Some Powerful Words:)
I Hear you:)Its Called Being able to Appreciate Something for what it is and The individual who took the time to,write, create, compose,Whatever the Person puts his or her mind to do. Not for the Money because Money cannot buy the actual Heart of a Human Being to Create and The Spirit of Feelings, and The Way it is Released Now That to Me is Priceless:)))))
Well said:)my Father actualy attended Woodstock:)I think My Taste in music is Chemicly Genetic But I Wouldnt Have it any other Way. Hey Man Art is Art,If You think about it Rembrandt was Probably Piss Drunk Everytime He Painted But Still it is the Feelings That Go into Creating Such Work. The Same Goes for Music, the feelings that go into Creating a Song using Heart and Soul,is the Same as a Sculpture or Painter Creating a Masterpiece:) Peace and Happiness:)
I Hear That:))))) The Individuals that Take the Time to Create The Album covers Have Serious Talent!!!!!!If You Notice The Bands From The 60s and 70s Album Covers Go Perfect with the Music:)
