thanks to this man, performers like the great pit bull now are successful, he was the pioneer and the one who open the doors to today's rapers. Thanks Gerardo.
Gerardo, comes to my mind the very first latin in the 90's that enter into american pop mainstream, before Ricky Martin, Enrique Iglesias, Jlo, Shakira, etc...
There is a film that's old that has this song in it. But I can't remember which one. It's got a black dude who is a hero and has a Afro. What film is it ?
I think I'm in love! (With Gerardo, not George Clinton.) ;-) His rapping isn't the best or most original-- reminds me a little of Will Smith -- but oh, what a cuerpo!
The boy had a good flow...too bad he couldn't make a better 2nd album than mo ritmo...he had style and sure could dance his ass off...I saw in an interview he was almost embarrassed when his kids saw his videos....don't be fearin..you were the shit back in the day!!!!
He was more talented than he got credit for. At the time a lot of people thought he was just a Latino version of Vanilla Ice, but that was unfair. He could write a lot better than VI and had much better musical sense.
there are some old school songs that were wack back in the day and now sound good because hip hop is sooooo horrible today, but with this song.... besides the hook this guy rapping still sucks even by today's watered down standards
yeah he has style!! check it out he enter the disco with a purpple gean-shirt, then he star dancing with a black jean, then he walk from the disco with a blue jean, man you missed that
This young man had the face, the build, the dancing ability, and talent. I hear he is a good family man now and I believe it. When the bureaucracy gets ahold to these young starving artists, they have to do what is expected. Even Donna Summer wasn't immune to the bureaucratic rulers. But she WAS the Disco Queen, which she wasn't really fond of. But I remember this young man from the past too. He was rather hot back then.
Dancing in this video is TIGHT. Music is Super cool. Rememeber listening to this on my walkman back when I was in High School. Music used to be so much more FUN back then!
@blackshogun77 True, todays rap artists don't have the stamina of a Gerardo, Kid N' Play or Bobby Brown in his prime. Dancing like this requires HOURS in the dance studio practicing. Today's rappers would rather spend time drinking cristal and Moet, buying bling or picking up groupies. Gerardo was a true talent. Dude was a great dancer, solid on the mic with a confident delivery of lyrics and a strong flow. Don't see that in a rapper today.
I just met Rico Suave today at my school!!!!!! he sang songs for our talent show after everyone was done performing. He looks so different these days!!! he signed my t-shirt and I tok a pic with him!!!!
@michaeljacksonbad952 micheal, we both know a person had ot be in shape to do this kind of dancing and todays music artists and rap artists dont want to go through all the training to do this kind of dancing. todays rap artists would never go into a dance studio for hours to learn this choreography.
capri, i remember this time in the early 90's. And Yeah I used to hang with guys that would say things like, "its booty to you duty time" LOL Ironic that i became a novelist and teacher. But back then it was the wild west.
This song was damn good, and Rico kicked ass back then. Met him a few years back and he's so different. A good family man now. You woulnd't recognize him. Say what you want but he kicked ass....
I'm a fan of Parliament from back in the '70s. I've got Mothership Connection, The Clones of Dr. Funkenstein, and Funkentelechy on the old vinyl LPs so I know funk. I also picked up on the Latino rap movement in the '90s. Gerardo smokes! He took George Clinton's funk and added Latino rap. Now you got some funky Latino rap! Deal with it!
I know i met him too he is a good family man he's a reformed christian remember i saw him at this church concert and he's so nice he sang and everything he's so cool and funny he's got a tatoo don't he cant belive you already met him thats so cool like me itz awsome so diffrent and very sad life story by the way!!!!!!!!!
Ojo q este tema es una versión de "GIVE UP THE FUNK" DE PARLIAMENT, y en este video aparece Gerardo con el creador de ese clásico, el Maestro del Funk, ¡GEORGE CLINTON!
