The optimization does make boot up a lot faster. I did a wipe of my laptop and used the recovery disc to bring it back to factory specs and it loaded up like a minute slower than when it originally came with the Geek Squad optimization. Not sure what they did, but I was unable to replicate it. They had waived the optimization fee on my laptop though, so that was nice, their stupid ass bait and switch tactics.
How come i didn't have to pay for BB optimization/Quick tune-up? It came with the computer, they also put in free recovery discs when i bought my HP G60.
I paid for the pre-optimization package and it paid for itself. The computer I bought crashed and broke during the optimization. They got a new one off the shelf and was able to have it optimized before I got back to pick it up. If I were to do it myself I'd be on the phone with the Dell helpdesk trying to fix the problem and ending up going back to Best Buy for another one. My time is worth more than saving 40 bucks.
Best Buy then is actually selling used computers, since some moron took it out of the package, put their grubby fingers on it, and dicked around with it. If it we're me I'd ask for a DISCOUNT on an "optimized" computer.
What a complete joke. Anyone stupid enough to fall for this "optimization" BS deserves to get ripped off.
Lest all put our nerd wangs away for a minute and consider the actual situation. the optimization process does more than delete icons and install Windows Updates. the programs trial programs themselves are removed from the registry completely, creating a cleaner registry and a faster boot time. secondly, the boot options and are cleaned some as well. the computer will turn on and off more efficiently, but this does nothing to hardware, it Optimizes the software environment.
I'm sorry Raventy. I'm currently employed at a Best Buy. This optimization service is not mandatory. This guy is a moron.
The reasoning behind a PERCENTAGE of laptops that come in on shipments get optimized (while others get security packages and such) is because it takes time.
Let's assume you wanted that service, do you want to wait there , or come back when they can get your your laptop Or would you rather be able to walk out with it already done?
Um.. if you don't know how to delete icons off your desktop and UNINSTALL programs then you should take the $40 dollars you spent on that "optimization" and give it to someone to teach you the basics of using a computer! More importantly, it's complete BS that they're starting to mandate this additional purchase leaving buyers with half a brain out an additional 40 bucks! Not to mention having them touch my new laptop doesn't make it so new anymore. Wouldn't be surprised if they scratch it.
I work at best buy and have bought the service myself. The service is more than beneficial to a consumer that is not as knowledgeable about computing. Windows updates done, boot free trail programs gone, processing rate is lower.. meaning your running faster, in short, yes! it's worth it.
You're saying that Best Buy underclocks processors as well? LOL, just because your Best Buy may have exemplary service doesn't mean other branches offer or even try to meet your level of service. This results in shoddy work and incomplete "optimizations". It becomes especially annoying when sales staff try to up sell you or force garbage down your throat while barely know anything about the product they're selling.
personally, i have no evidence that you know anything about computers based on that statement. iv been in the computer field for 7 years and know that there is no such term as "lower processing rate" that is positive. that actually means that they have under-clocked the CPU. that requires voltage management and many other mods in the bios that not only do MANY Best Buy employees not know how to do, but im sure that it voids your warranty.

what do you mean by "processing rate is lower?"
