  • trop belle!!! Viva Africa!!!!!

  • The voices and instruments are flowing in tandem.Long live masterpiece

  • sir Madiebo, i'll translate this song for u: but let me summarize it first. It's someone complaining about a friend who just like talk behind people, you earn your living by talking about other. You pass your time criticizing people, etc

It's an ironic song about a stool pigeon. If you need a full translation, let me know.

  • The person at extreme left is NOT Sam Mangwana. He is Michel Boyibanda.

(From left to right: Michèl Boyibanda, Josky Kiambukuta, Wuta Mayi, Sam Mangwana, and Franco)

  • could someone identify for me the guy who likes dancing fast with fun at the extreme left. I guess he is now the same old man who performed during simaro masiya's annivesary with bana ok jazz together with maladge

    Mbeda B.O.

  • @mbeda100

    Sam mangwana

  • GR8 EVERGREEN LEGENDS EVEN DURING THE OLDEN TIMES...... GUD WORK

  • Bell bottom trousers and platform shoes days! - Remember those days? 60 / 70s!

  • está fiche

  • Say Hey To Sweet African Music

  • Franco and Mangwana two giants of soukous. So atmospheric. Un temps perdu. Classic.

  • to reve yo ehehe 2xte

  • My best video on you tube!

  • This song means someone who goes around borrowing money and gossiping and bringing trouble in between friends and families

  • Great music... Greetings from Portugal! :)

  • great footwork and artistry from Michel Boyibanda

  • The great Franco at his best!in this song he is dissing people who make money,careers,etc.....out of backstabbing,snitching,accusing....etc...others.It is somehow a diss of numerous mobutists who made a name for themselves by devious means.

  • I weep; I weep.

  • This is music from the great KONGO,i hope people will one day be reunited

  • It is a pleasure to see our vadettes so young and happy and they are still giving us lovely music, some of us may never understand what they are saying but I am sure we get the same pleasure with the blessed ones who understand the lyrics. This song was so lovely. Franco, Sam Mangwana, Wuta Mayi, can you imagine those voices mixed together, sweet sweet sweet music

  • please someone translate for me. especially what sam manguana is singing at the end. thanks

  • @rawlongo Mangwana at the end attempts to pronounce the words in a Tshiluba accent that's why its funny.

"Toyeba yo, mosala na yo se kofunda bato.(we know you, your work consists of accusing/backstabbing others.) toyeba yo, mosala na yo se critiquer bato(we know you, your work consist of criticizing others). Toyeba yo, mosala na yo se kokongolo mbongo na miso ya bato (we know you, your work consists of asking for money in public) lol, toyeba yo...se kofina ba dossier ya baninga"

  • @orangekush3: Thank u so much. now i can understand why people laugh in the end of the song

  • @rawlongo yea lol they were just having a little fun that's all haha, you can tell these guys really liked playing music and entertaining.

  • @orangekush3

Thanx for the Translation...I could pay you to make me know about what this talented guys are singing about..

  • @orangekush3

And by so doing was mocking his former Tshiluba speaking bosses (Dr. Nico, Rocherau, and Dechaud) at African Fiesta.

  • kitoko trop ya sam

  • I just hope wherever he is he is getting the appreciation he deserves because we had him for over 30 years and decided to put untalented western musicians first. What we are now left with is lazy African singers who try to mimic the same western bubble gum music. Hope you all feel the pain i do every time I listen to Franco and realise how much he is missed. The very best musician, composer band leader and lyricist and oh guitarist of course. I dare anyone challenge me on any of these.

  • Tanxdandie and rahndi, you have made an importantant point that goes at the heart of the question why TP OK Zazz was such a phenomenal band. Franco moulded TP OK, so that it transcended the individual, including himself. Individuals were always allowed to flourish unhindered. In this particular video look how Sam Magwana gets carried away and sing completely off script to the amusement of Franco who seemed to encourage him. TP OK had many flag bearers, Franco was just one among many- Democracy!

  • easy listening just beautiful

  • @Zappowx And the dance is easy. Look at Boyibanda

  • grand moment

  • One of the best music I have ever had the good luck to listen to.God bless the people who brought this out for our enjoyment.

  • motel fikin...damn nice memozzz....

  • nakubali kazi yako franco

  • What a wonderful masterpiece, it seems that the legend did many songs , i came to listen to this song this year 2010. thanks rahndi

  • Lingala somo trop jazz congolais ilfo ezonga na congo wapi ba vrais producer ya ba nzembo ya boye

  • franco jazz congolais damn good(L)

  • TOYEBA YO = WE KNOW YOU= ON TE CONNAIT

    Veryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy right.....

  • For Franco look at "AboubacarSiddikh" channel at YT

  • Beautiful lead vocals by Sam Mangwana..the roaming pigeon

  • franco was a man and a half and his music will be heard for generations to come. A man who had taste and class to music its sad hes gone but he will live amongst us forever.........thumbs up to him

  • franco was a master and a half and his songs will be listened for generations to come, he was a legend and always will be and will never ever get bored to playing his songs

  • True... just like folks in the developed world plan for things way ahead it seems part of TPOK's sophistication was in their ability to produce music that would stand the test of time - and it wasn't by chance - they knew it!

  • An enduring legacy to Franco's timeless music is to collate as many as we can, create a Web Portal to host them and allow very many others to enjoy the vibes that he (Franco) bequeated.......I am sure our gratitude to him will make him very happy..whereever he is in the beyond...

  • cool.Vive le bon view temps

  • KITOKO NA MAWA + ?

  • The music of Franco awakens very tender feelings coupled to a great yearing and longing....Bless him a thousand times...

  • did you mean yearning?

  • Yes....yearning.....

Many thanks for spotting the word and correcting it.

    Warm Regards

    Gregory

  • great music to play when playing in bed

  • Beautiful language, Great music, Amazing composition, what fantastic voices -

Many thanks to rahndi for the post

    5* from Nigeria

  • @dandamakakojo

Indeed, this language was made for singing.

The sylabels, the intonation, just beautiful.

  • Lovely music.Stop talking about anything else guys.....please lets just listyen to the music and appreciate the talents behind it.Peace

  • That was Sam Mangwana.

  • What is the name of the singer that the camera focuses on from 0:34 to 1:12 ?

  • Sam Mangwana, later to become a superstar on his own

  • @jjlljjll its Sam Mangwana before he became famous...

  • This is one of my best France Music, and video. I especially love the relaxed mood with which Franco allowed his musicians to flourish. Look at Sam Manguana in the video and it says all why Franco always retained most of his Musicians. Ofcourse sam Manguana later set himself independently, but kept close contact with with Franco.

  • the persons asking about color is like a person who is served a sumptous meal at an elite restaurant, and when he has enjoyed the meal comments "hmm. How come the table cloth does not have a pink hue".

Of course color is besides the point here!

  • Can someone please write down the lyrics and please translate them...I'm a Nigerian and would like to know what they are saying and so that I could sing them as well....thanks.....alot

  • @Madiebo I might be wrong...but I think toyeba yo means 'we know you'...I don't understand lingala that much...i'm still learning. sorry

  • @Madiebo Toyeba yo is the short form for Biso (We) toyeba (know) yo (you), Mosala (work) na yo (yours) [your work]...basically the song talks about a hypocrite who gossips about other peoples problems (makambo), yet, as the song goes, toyeba yo...we know what you do...(unethical work, which should be criticized)...ill translate the full song...and then send it to you...cheers.

  • @orangekush3 Hellow dear please send me full translation of this song i love it so much i am from tanzania

  • @maria32152 ok I will in a bit give me some time

  • some people were born in the 80s when black and white was a bygone technology. Forgive...

  • Kama mimi ni wewe, ningecheza TP Ok jazz kilasiku

  • CAN U JUST WRITE GOOD COMMENTS PLZ NOT STUPID QUESTION LIKE ''Does it mean color wasn't discovered then'' PLZ KEEP THM FOR WIKIPIDIA embecil c du bon franco!! merci!

  • Nasi, the colour is not anything, I just love the music. Thanks for your collections.

  • Does it mean color wasn't discovered then

  • My wife bought me a cd of Franco. This song is inside. So i just called her to show how old this song is old. The cd have very good quality sound. Nice to see them singing live. Thanx for posting.

  • @SIKONGE you wouldn't by any chance know the name of that cd would you? Thanks.

  • @orangekush3 I wrote that i have the CD. It is from "Franco & OK Jazz / World Legends" but i have double CD album with more songs like Mario, Massu, Layile, Makambo ezali minene and Temps mart. It is collections from many cd. You can google and find it your self. Let me enyoj Matata ya Mwasi ......

  • Every time I watch this tune I cry tears of joy. It just does somehting to me - must be the innocent childhood memories but it is one wicked tune! Cheza wewe!

  • sam manwana looks like the blue-eyed boy here.Kenyans, this guy looks like James Orengo...ama? Franco is the best...

  • whats Boyimanda doing with his lips at 1:32min?

  • Cleaner times - cleaner music - Direction of music was good!

Now lost to less salubrious concerns of rap, a hybrid of which may overshadow and consume rare talent.

  • Every imaginable facet of our lives has been taken over by mindless aping , we have discarded the good with the bad. Now we copy bad tunes , bad food , we even import diseases , along with names. Yes names, we cannot name our own children these days. I quit listening to African radio years ago, I cannot stand some bad Swahili rap or any other African rap.

  • Especially look at the clean dance moves beginning at 5:55 led by Sam Mangwana. So sad the current Congolese music is just rampant booty shaking overshadowing the essence of the music.

  • very true statement....were going through the same thing here in Nigeria as well...lol

  • yeah, plus all that unnecessary shouting and hollering

  • Always thrilled to listen to this classic. I don't care to know what Tayeba Yo means but I do make up for me the meaning by the rythm -it's beautiful!

  • I concur with you.

  • Left to right: Mboyi Mbanda, Josky Kiambakuta Wuta mayi and sam Mangawana

  • Who is this guy dancing vigorously on the extreme left?.Sure we should respect our legends, they were once young and did alot to produce this number and others.Ask young people how many songs they produce ,sell beyond one year before out of the market.I will ensure that my son listens to this.

  • This is Ndombe.....You can see that he started to watch American dance. I think he was a fan of James Brown....

  • Ndombe is not in there

    That was Michaux Boybanda

The front lineup was Boybanda, Josky Kiambukuta, Wuta Mayi, and Sam Mangwana

  • Sam Manguana is a real talent. Kadi udi upotela baluba :)

  • which album of Franco was this on ?

  • ces gars là, c'est des chefs, des patrons qui ont apprivoisé la musique. RIEN à ajouter.

  • mais ou est parti la vraie musique...j'aurais du vivre a cette epoque belle zik!!!

  • Sheer genius.....

  • This is just awesome. What year is this

  • 吮我的陰莖

  • 1975

  • Boy, Lingala has an easy flow. It is one of the sweetest languages in the world.

  • Beautiful!!!

  • i belive that franco is still alive and kicking.

  • in my soul and my ipod he's not only kicking but committing wanton arson to my heart

  • i trust u. where are you from. music brings pepole together god bless you

  • Nice classic. I had not seen Sam Mangwana perform while at TP OK. The guy has a great voice!

  • African unpolluted talent

  • This has to eb the best music ever. It goes right to your soul. Grew up listening to this on radio in the 70s in uganda. My dad had a stash of their records because he worked with them but he lost the lot. I wish I had held ont them. Thanks for the good work and sweet memories Rhandi! RIP Franco!

  • i like ure thinking

  • Guys, the song is superbly sang and well orchestrated. Interesting, these guys here were pretty young and talented! Tanxdandel is correct about them singing while sober. Gosh! I am shocked at what our kids call music these days! I here more of noise than the people singing.

  • Sad but true! The poison they call music is an absolute afrontary.

  • I play this music over and over again. Does somebody know where I can get this vedio? Cash on delivery!

  • What I find most interesting about this piece is not just the music which is superb but the showmanship which is real and relaxed unlike the drug induced showmanship of many so called modern musicians that make them look freakish. This is a relaxing video, tanx.

  • That's a totally excellent point. The performance is honest and its presentation is not a cliche. The material is controversial but does not need the big spectacle to remind us.

  • @tanxdandie hear hear!

  • This is music the way it should BE

  • @tanxdandie

So true. Their faces are serene

  • Hi all. Anybody remember a song by TPOK jazz wiith words like " Ilunga ya Cherry..."? I'm looking for the tittle or the name if some one can have.

  • can anyone please post angela by sam mangwana, fabrice ,tawaba, zalasportiff

  • @Ngoma50, God Bless you I have waited for this for 20 years!! Thanks a billion...

  • Thank you Ngoma50. You're doing a great job in your efforts to translate these beautiful songs to English. I'm sure everybody from all over the world appreciate your efforts.

    Thank you.

  • oops typo!.. baninga=friends, not maninga. ok

mosala na yo se kofina ba dossiers ya baninga

your work is to falsify/alter your friend's documents.

olingi ba 'mata te, bazonga sima

You don't want them to have/advance, (you want them) to go backwards

  • mosala na yo se kobuka lokuta

mosala na yo se kopanza mabala ya maninga

your work is to scatter/wreck your friend's marriages.

  • Hello, can someone who understands this language post the English translation so that people who love OK jazz from all over the word can appreciate the music more. They have great talent.

    Thank you.

  • Hello, Can anyone who speaks this language post the English translation so everyone who love this music can understand what they're singing. Show some appreciation to the music by posting translations.

    Thank you.

  • The refrain or the chorus is:<< we know you, we know what you do, your job consists on accusing and criticizing people. We know you, you earn money by talking about people when they are not present.

  • this is me and granma's song LOLL, we luuv this song

  • Can someone please tell us what these georgeous, sexy men are singing about - When I try to figure out what they are saying...I get too emotional.

  • Toyeba yo, We know you

Mosala nayo té kofunda bato, Litteral , your work is to accuse others, to talk against others, to critisize them...

  • Thanks. Where are you located? I'm DC, USA area and I know they are a couple of people from Zaire here if only I can get together with them and share my love of their music. I'm from Uganda and attended a Franco show in NY in the early 1980's. I'm desperately trying to contact anyone who had footage of that concert. HELP! I didn't know it then that was my only citing of this great man (to me Elvis is over-rated - Franco is the KING of music)

  • Mboyi Mbanda, Josky, Wuta Mayi and sam Mangwana - from left to right. The singers.

  • merci franco Josky Sam

  • who knows where sam mangwana is?

  • I think he is the one on the right, among the singers.

  • On the right, At the 8.27 minutes starts sing's in chiluba accent, comes out funny and you can see even Franco Laughing.

  • He's in Paris

  • the music is cool and good

  • The best band ever produced in the 20th Century.

  • Hi Kallerogers

is Kimpa Kisangemeni the title of the song? if so can you please advise on how to get the song

  • Idinrete: In my wildest guess, you probably meant: KIMPA KISANGAMENI.."Meeting of the Witches". Where Franco mourned his Brother(Bavon). According to rumours,Sorcery had played a role in his death.

  • they rock

  • please can anyone help me out i used to have a tape of OK JAZZ but a lady-friend took it from me and lost it. i dont know the title but the words i can remember are KINA KINA MO MA KINA,KATANGA KINA MA MO, PERESINLONGO KINA MA MO....forgive me if i dont get it right

  • hi everyone i am not from Zaire but i eat drink live Zaire music. the music is awesome and inspiring.

  • Hey folks, this is great. Was Verckys still with TP OK? Was that him on the sax? There is a clear shot of the sax player at 7:30. I think the sax is awesome. Bravo rahndi

  • When music was music. Singing for the Love of music. Greatest band of all time.... O.K Jazz OYe! Sentima!! Blaise mayombe!! "WE KNOW YOU"....commentary on social evils. Nepotism and corruption. SALONGO ALINGA MOSALA!!

  • anyone has mossesesengosoongas videos?

  • who is the hot looking singer at 00.48 seconds?

  • sam mangwana

  • the legendary Sam "The Man" Mangwana

  • Just the best!!!!From Spain, I thanks all african people, for having such a good singer!!!!

  • Sentima!! Vintage Luambo & Mangwana. "Toyeba Yo"...translated as "We Know You". Franco's commentary on rampant corruption by adminstrators and Police. A swipe at Mobutu? Figure it Out

  • Have just shade tears once again realising Franco is no longer with us.Very sad.

  • the last time i checked, your username aought to be lujey, ama its not?

  • You ought not shed tears... This guy left behind the most beautiful compositions ever.

  • Other 'musique de afrique' available at tambourdafrique/blogspot/com. Enjoy.

  • Stop arguing you silly sods - just enjoy a great clip of Franco with his greatest singer - Sam Mangwana.... Thanks Rahndi!

  • also, correct me if i am wrong, but i believe the master Sam Mangwana sang FAUTE YA COMMERCANT!!!...this song makes me cry when i hear it, it's beautiful...

  • "Faute ya Commercante" (The Businesswoman's Fault) is a great Mangwana rendition of a Simaro song. My favorite Mangwana rendition of a Simaro song is "Mabele" (The Earth), there is full translation in Graeme Ewens' book. My question as always is why can't Simaro do anything the least bit interesting after being such a shining light with T.P. OK Jazz? Except for Mangwana and Youlou, the "children" of OK Jazz have disappointed the memory of Le Grand Maitre.

  • i agree...one can hear Mabele on Myspace/FRANCo luambo makiadi

  • Cool!!! I hope I can find your Mpspace Franco site. Chances are that I will. Best to you.

  • sorry i got that wrong. it's myspace/franco et le tp ok jazz...gud luck

  • Thank you for the clarification. I am just thrilled that someone is trying to keep the memory of Franco alive. With the demise of Sonodisc Records it almost impossible and prohibitively expensive to obtain content. Also, there is a great deal of content that was never converted to CD format. What scares me is that future generations won't know who Franco was because nobody is releasing content. Whoever owns the content, please give the music a future. (Computer keeps crashing, hope this posts.)

  • Sorry for climbing on my soapbox again. I can't seem to stay off.

  • Fauta ya commercant(oyoyo.. oyeye.. omama..)was sang by simaro, zala sportiff (my best) by mangwana and princess kikou by franco in that album.Franco 'Otoyo' mwenye sauti ya simba.

Quite captivating;what a shock!! did somebody say that franco killed so many people to gain his fame?

  • Someone always something to discredit someone of their genius. Europeans hail Mozart as a genius: did he kill many people to achieve his fame? He's hailed as a genius, but because our lovely wonderful, genius franco was an Afrikan, his genius is dimissed. Instead, he's accused of being a killer. these brainwashed afrikans need to shut up!!!

  • "Faute Ya Commercant" was performed by Mangwana but written by Simaro. I don't believe Simaro ever sang on any Franco/TPOK Jazz song.

The comment about Franco killing people makes me want to remove your entire comment altogether. I'll leave it to remind people what Franco was writing about in the song "Radio Trottoir (Street Talk)". As you can see "street talk" is usually based in ignorance. This is not a forum for nonsense.

  • Thanx for the clarifications here n beyond.Noteworthy,i know how you feel when somebody tanish the name of our hero-Franco Luambo.i got a shock when somebody said that n that is y i was asking.i am still checking where i read it here in one of the comments. What a shock;i doubted that;the guy seemed sure...Thanx!

  • Radio Trottoir was also a Simaro composition.

  • the greatest music on earth!!!!!!!

  • Oyooe, Thanks alot

  • When was this one recorded?

  • My Grandpa, a devout fan of Franco, used to say you can play any song but so long as Sam Mangwana is on the vocals, any good song is transformed into an angelic melody. This I have lived to cherish. And this is why I like this one.

  • I know Sam Manguana, Mboyi Mbanda, and Londa Josky but who is that singer next to Manguana?

  • Have you ever heard ot Wuta Mayi? Pick the names of the rest of the band members from the 20th anniversary video. Could any body confirn that Sam Mangwana`s parents were from Angola?

  • In Gary Stewart's "Rumba on the River," it says, "Mangwana was born in Kinshasa to parents who had fled the oppressive Portugese colony of Angola." "Rumba on the River" is a great book and quite affordabe at around 7 bucks new and used.

  • May be you help us findout on the moderlities of online purchases. Thanks

  • I tried to post more specific seller information before but they seem to get intercepted by administrators and eradicated (I guess). I appologize for this but it is beyond my control. Try searching Google on the title of the book and go to a reputable bookseller. "Rumba on the River" should be easy to find. Sorry I could not be more specific but it's out my hands.

  • Ok will try. Thanks for ur assistance.

  • this is mizik really, am pround to be african and congolese

  • Thanks Randi. How or where might one secure this book..'Condo Colossus'? Cheers.

  • I tried to respond to this with more a more specific answer but I guess it was intercepted by an administrator. I can only provide general info. Do a search on Google for Graeme Ewens "Congo Colossus." I have found prices from 36 dollars up to 178 dollars. It's a must own for Franco fans.
