  • I have my m-audio fast track ultra 8r and it is amazing

  • Mono....

  • Wow, stereo out from a cheap drum machine is very limiting as far as sounds and ability to mix them. Fuck stand alone recorder, get a mac and any sound in the world will be available to you by using files within a virtual drum machine..plus no cables ;)

  • Mono....

  • i love who this guy is explaining how to record when he records this in mono and pans his voice to the left it bugs the hell out of me with head phones on

  • @joeysguitarvideos i thnk another guy said that about..........7 months ago in the top comments random

  • I love this show....

  • awesome! thanks for the video!

  • &rockongoodpeople where did you get the desk?

  • hehe they have 666 videos :D

  • This is probably a stupid question. But cant u just use something like garage band. Everything your talking about seems like its gonna cost a lot of money!

  • Could you please tell me what Mics do you think are good or very good for the front of a combo electric blues guitar amp in a home studio PC recording? I try to play Blues guitar with a Epi standard LP with 490t and 490r pups and Jimmy page wiring . I'm getting better. Thxs Jerry

  • i cant hear anythign AT ALL !!!!!!

  • @xXR33D3M3RXx It's probably too early to start learning about recording music if you don't know how the volume on your computer works.

  • @ShockedGun No, im mean i can't hear your voice or anything!

  • @xXR33D3M3RXx You can't hear my voice?

  • @ShockedGun yes, (in the video)

  • @xXR33D3M3RXx I'm not in the video you dope :)

  • you got your vocal microphone....................thats two inputs

  • ROSE ACRE CARE HOME BANSTEAD STAFF AM 6315 WALLINGTON LIBRARY STAFF

  • damn a actually knocked my right speaker i thought it was going bad.

  • This is very informative..

  • Ya um, the big potato on the computer screen should fix his video sounds before he teaches us how to record properly

  • this is in mono and is just bad audio ironic

  • I love how he throws the rug over the amp, thats not going to catch fire after the tubes heat up

  • @LifeistheNewEscape yeah i know really i laughed when i saw him do that

  • TAKE TWO !

  • this video was recorded in mono

  • I don't need to buy a drum machine i afford i real drum kit

  • If you need a good mic isolator check out the Reflection Filter XL.

  • I hate the fact that some of you are being mean on him. This man is just being helpful with people who don't know much about this stuff. Thanks a lot man!!

  • feel sorry for him hes just trying help :(

  • @hollydoobie hate to break it to you but despite how friendly he may look, he is not "just" trying to help. He's also pushing his business, as you can see from the link in the description.

  • @shoegazer666 So what

  • @StudioTypa I didn't say anything bad about him. Nothing wrong with a bit of capitalism.

  • @shoegazer666 can you blame him ? leave the poor dude alone :\

  • @hollydoobie Yup, nothing wrong with making money. Stop calling him poor.

  • @shoegazer666 i was calling him poor as in unfortunate cos hes getting bullied not the money term,

  • @hollydoobie me too. I wouldn't know about his financial condition.

  • waste ...

  • Terrible editing but very helpful

  • what about showing us how to do something instead of talking and talking about it.

  • PUT SOME TROUSERS ON MAN FOR GODS SAKE

  • forget to edit this? and what about modes and standing waves....

  • nice studio

  • i dont want to break this guys heart but this fool is 1940s played out.....dude protools that ish get a 003 rack hooks right to your computer thats it! and send it out for mixing or do it your self peroid all that is not even whta you need....any 200 dollar mic your fine...and preamp and were out!

  • I think its funny people calling this guy a rookie and there the ones looking up home studio setups haha

  • what a about stereo sound? Would that be posible in this home of studio? Maybe stereo sound for this video for starters?

  • what a about stereo sound? Would that be posible in this home of studio? Maybe stereo sound for this video for starters?

  • He said he had a Rode NT2A... but it was a RODE NT1A he had in his hand..

  • My left ear really enjoyed this :D Great vid.

  • Super hilarious the whole mono recording!!

  • The Sound of this Video is in Mono, not in Stereo. You´re an rookie :-D

  • cubase ftw

  • Oh ... check out Blue mics as well! We compared a Blueberry with a Telefunkin 251 ($16k for the251 ... Blueberry is $1k) ... the Blueberry was way better than the 251 AND even a Neumann 149! =)

  • dead on with the SM-57 .. there's a great company we used called Ready Acoustics for excellent inexpensive room treatment … actually more important than the mic. One thing my friends … putting a computer monitor on a stand in between the speakers doesn't work too well … we have a great video about that here if you are interested. Uh … also … honestly there is a reason every major studio uses DAWs. Way more flexibility…other than that...great info!! Check us out at SecretPros!

  • logic ftw

  • Hey thank you, now all I have to do is buying all of that stuff, including the computers!

  • 3:50 haha

  • i am ugly.

  • 2:25

    WTF

  • I love that this is recorded in mono...lol. kind of ironic

  • @FCO0710 hahha! no shit ey....

  • @FCO0710 hahaha yeah I tought my right headphone stopped working

  • @FCO0710 Yeah thats what i was just thinking then i read your comment thats crazy its not just in mono its only on the left channel lol

  • @FCO0710 May be was recorded in stereo, but when the video is low resolution, youtube converts it into mono.

For stereo sound must be at least 360p.

  • @FCO0710 Well of course this has bad sound! He had all his good mics unplugged and in front of the camera. ;)

  • Hi I was wondering if it's possible to put a compressor between my guitar and the hardware I'm recording with or is there also a possibility to compress a track with editing software?

  • Well, everything is possible, but don´t do it. once the compressor is on the track, you can´t fix it afterwords.

  • My experience, which is fairly extensive, is that people with all of that equipment generally, more often than not, never actually get around to doing any recording. Oh, they collect great gear, and then they twiddle knobs, but I worked in the ACCOUNTING department at a large, national musical equipment retailer and I recorded more complete, multiple track songs with my CASSETTE four track than the smart-asses did with their big boards, etc. Just saying...you don't need most of that stuff.

  • Hi Mike,

Thanks for making this vid...Great overview for people just starting out.

I've featured this vid on my blog...

    Peter Montgomery

  • Why is there sound only coming out the left, Why are you leaving those ribbon mics on their side!? Why are you allowed to make a tutorial video on recording when you don't know shit!?

  • Is your microphone have a problem? It sucks you know.

  • What a horrible video this guy doeant know shiit

  • DRUGS Drugs Drugs drugs.....

  • For a home studio, there sure is alot of background noise going on...

  • nice

  • I LOVE the editing on this

  • enjoyed your advice, easy and very understandable, great stuff, lads, cheers Stonewash

  • garageband doesn't need a manual let alone a support group...

  • You are giving techniques on mic positions but your audio is only coming through my left speaker. FAIL.

  • Nice vid, but:

Its kinda weird to get home recording tips outta a mono video. ;-)

  • Google for :

    AAMS Auto Audio Mastering System

  • I like your pants.

  • DRUM MACHINES HAVE NO SOUL!!

  • @lilfudd312 tell that to my tr-808.

  • @lilfudd312 thats what they want you to think... :)

  • @lilfudd312 Human drummers are often moody people.

  • @lilfudd312 Todays music has no soul......

  • @Kr4ftw3rk THANKYOUUU!!!

  • @lilfudd312 Neither have humans ;-)

  • @lilfudd312 no but drumagog sure does lol

  • @lilfudd312 But samples do.

  • @lilfudd312 bad drum machine programmers have no soul.

  • @lilfudd312 same thing with gingers

  • @lilfudd312 nor do gingers

  • @lilfudd312 Of course drum machines have a soul!

If it didn't have a soul, it couldn't die... and I killed a drum machine 3 weeks ago. it was great. :)

  • @lilfudd312 Neither do humans!!

  • @lilfudd312 They depend on you to provide the soul! :-)

  • If anyone is around springfield Ohio and looking to make a fun NON-hardcore band message me. Like I said its just for fun. Nothing real serious.

  • cause everyone goes to the local shipping company every day!

  • How can he talk about recording when he couldn't record the right channel on the video?

  • @GrixM I noticed that myself >_<

  • I don't know about those two ribbons particularly, but you can destroy most ribbon mics by giving them phantom power - might want to mention that in a video.

  • I could never do anything like this..I am working from my bedroom which is small and hard to work with video wise. Since I am working in such a small room How can I make my video sound better. Everything allways sounds so hight pitched and eco like. Any tips???

  • this guy is fucking sick i whant them microphones lol

  • I don't know if I should trust Mono Mike

  • I made a mistake by getting myself a pod studio UX2 which has only 2 inputs.... this really sucks..

  • @The81Ghost why didnt I watch this before!

  • hi everyone im a new home recording artist (rap, hip hop, rnb) please subscribe, support, and request a song.

    thank you guys so much!!

  • am i the only one getting only the right channel out of this?

  • @headwhop26 No, I'm getting the same problem bro, except it's the left channel I'm getting. Kind of strange to watch a tutorial on home studio recording...and find it's in mono and/or hardpanned to one speaker. I'm not trashing it...just sayin' it loses lots of credibility when it's posted up like that. Nice looking studio, but why in the world would they post it with audio like that?

  • @headwhop26 that's probably beacuse you've got ya headphones on the other way around....

    great: a audio-tech-video with f'cked up sound!

  • @arnoldvld

    Yeah, it could have been.

I guess the sound problem could be a youtube problem, they screw up levels and syncing and stuff all the time.

  • love the vids.. very helpful.. thank you..

  • nice stop motion effect at 1:50 lol

  • room sounds like doodoo

  • Thanks for all this info in one place - and my hat is off to you for keeping on at this stuff. Looking at the comments, everybody and their dog seem to crawl out of the woodwork and start sniping for nothing - and what did we learn from those people? NADA!! What did they offer the community other than some great tips on serial bitching and whining about free tutorials where somebody else is doing all the work? Absolutely nothing!!! Again, many thanks!

  • I'm sorry, I couldn't watch this video because the frickin' sound is panned all the way to the left. There's something called, "Mono."

  • @ShazibElahi Hit the mono switch on your mixer then?! That's what I've done. But yeah, probably best to Mix the audio file down in stereo next time haha

  • i just suscribed..good video! 5/5

  • okay so i need someone to tell me...if i just want to record vocals and make it sound just like all of the professional rapping artists, what do i need to make that happen? headphones, a good sound card, and a microphone is all i have obtained so far? im getting the instrumentals, or beats, off of the computer so i am guessing i can just bring it from the computer straight into the program i have to use...?

  • perfect. you help me alot. Thanks for the tutorial. For me 5 stars.

  • why can you hear cars go by right outside the studio?

  • before you post any tutorials - learn to edit videos...

  • And to start, don't pan everything hard left...

  • Hi there, my mum just bought a 5.1ch Digital Speech Control Amplifier (AMP-510USB), and i just realised that there is where i can plug a mic into, so am wondering wether if i bought a shure sm58 it would work.

I just want to find out if the shure sm58 would work with the amplifier described above, thanks.

  • dude, talking about a professional studio and equipment and not getting the sound working right *lol* in your video is not a good advertisement...

  • for someone talking about recording, you sure do a crap job of doing it yourself with stereo sound...I had to switch my headphone output to Mono...

  • @fernank017 Oh man! I thought my right speaker was broken cause I cant hear anything out on the right speaker. Whew!

  • dude i got scared, thought my right headphone ear went out.

  • Might I ask what the acoustic panels on your walls are made of?

  • man u sure have money i dont think a 16 years old boy could buy all off that

  • @CheChoELCHELO The basics are the same....just improvise....this video its great really.....trust me i have seen videos telling you that you need a 3000$ mike....you got to be kidding me....for a simple home studio..? I guess that was a comercial to some mike. Well back to what i'm saying....you can start with a 30$ mike from Radio Shack and see some Pan Shops ....you may find used stuff witch will be good for a first recording studio....

  • @CheChoELCHELO im 14 and i got more then him

  • @sherroychapman because your probably a spoiled rich kid.

  • @UltraVioletVideoz strue lol

  • @UltraVioletVideoz Nope because im a nigga with money and a job i aint spoiled and im 15 now and you probably live with your mother so shut the fuck up

  • @CheChoELCHELO I'm 16 and I bought all this and more all by myself.

  • @CheChoELCHELO im 14 and i bought this stuff...

  • @CheChoELCHELO I don't think a 16 year old would be getting a complete studio

  • @noudthe3rd Man, to record at home, you need at least the half of his equipment.... Can you calculate the cost? And yes, 16 year old kids do want to have their own home studio.

  • @Sapiossss Yea sure 16 year olds WANT it, heck I want it, that's not the point. How many kids do you know that can or for that matter should be able to afford this? And no you don't need at least half of this equipment to record at home

  • @noudthe3rd Man, I know a LOT kids, you maybe not, but there are kids that try all the time and making efforts to create even a mediocre track without any soundcard interfaces and without workstations. I used to do the same back there when i was younger and I didn't care at all how will it sound. And for the matter of the equipment, if you don't have an amp-cab any shure sm57 lying around, there are plenty of VST's to experiment with. But not forget interfaces, workstations monitors consoles etc

  • @CheChoELCHELO you'd be surprised what great gear a 16 year old, that works, can get and start a studio.

  • u suck at video but good at audio ide rather learn video not audio stinky...............

  • Anyone knows how to record vocals??

    I need help.

  • Anyone knows how to record vocals?

    I need help.

  • Dude... Stereo.... Make it happen..... My right ear is empty...

  • Honestly, would have never thought to put a heavy blanket over my amp and microphone. Maybe now I can keep my fan on when I record (I live in AZ haha)
