  • Vowels are a bit off. Especially in the beginning. Excellent otherwise

  • I sang this years ago in SATB and thought it was lovely. This is simply BEAUTIFUL and I love it.

  • I agree. Best TTBB piece ever. GREAT JOB guys!

  • I think that the TTBB adds a certain "determined" like sound to it that the SATB just doesn't have. Sang this my freshman year in high school TTBB and loved it. 4 years later and I sang it in my schools top choir and just didn't sound right SATB.

  • I was in that Alabama All State choir that had Joseph Martin as the director! You're right about the pianist. Singing that with Joseph Martin was such an incredible experience...

  • @neoanderson48

And my choir director (Brian Quillin) assisted him. He always talked about walking back in to the practice room and watching Joseph Martin standing at the piano with tears streaming down his face as he played the baby grand piano so hard it was bouncing up and down on the floor. It was such a personal song for him. And that really came through with the All-State choir that year. These guys do wonderful justice to this song as well.

  • our withered and died for our choir concert sounded so much cooler because it was like"WITHERED AND DIIIiiii.....IIIIIIEEEEEEEEDDDDD!!!!!" with such epicness

  • Thanks for adding beauty to my day!

  • I sang this last year in 7th grade in SATB and i agree, this song should be done in TTBB always. It goes through to your heart in such a deeper way, and even tho it has no girl parts, it is one of the few songs i like with no girl parts

  • AMAZING!!!!

  • I don't think that this song should have been sang by men only.

They should have picked something else,

Not that it doesn't sound good..

It just doesn't sound the same without the girls.

I sang this song with my choir at distrcits.

  • After Listening to the SATB, I put hands down that the awakening should only really be meant for TTBB. The sound produced sounds rich and My choir is doing this For our Contest and We are very far on it. I dont know if it is the sound quality or what not could use some more D like on sound and Awake (K). and Dream. But othr then that a really good recording.

  • Intonation isn't bad, breath support is almost good, blend and dynamics need a lot more attention, but the bass section is stronger than most that I've heard sing this song. I can't say as much for the tenors.

  • dynamics aren't good. follow the songs dynamics please

  • goosebumps... :D

  • full revision and high quality thanks

  • It's so awesome how these men take on a soprano note in full voice. Chillz.

  • i don't like the no alleluia part as much without the sopranos. the rest is AWESOME.

  • I have yet to find a better male TTBB song out there, within reason (Chanticleer stuff is beyond the limits of mere mortals...)

  • DOING THIS SONG NOW TTBB AND IT SOUNDS AMAZING WE GOT IT DOWN IN LIKE 2 WEEKS!!!!

    TENORS # 1!!!!!

  • i like singin the SATB version of the song personally

  • interesting music, and by the way, i saw something really cool . listen to both parts of this this guy, this music is flawless. search for "freakollo" in the search tab.

  • my SATB choir is doing this song, and i have to say that the TTBB sounds a lot better, especially at "soli deo". GO TENORS!

  • when they started singing the No allelujah, not one hosanna, no song of love, not one lullaby the hairs on my arms and back of my neck stood on end its a wonderful performance

  • Joseph Martin came to my school today....our choir is putting on a concert with him on sunday.... hes a really awesome person and his wife is too! i love this song too its one that we all look forward to singing

  • I personally like it better SATB especially at the "Awake awake" Part where the Sopranos sing "Soli Dayo Gloria." My school is doing this song in choir. At that part my and my friend just like stare at eachother and hold hands because its just like, so powerful. Hahaha.

  • I totally am in this video. Lee High School! Holla! :D

  • my choir is singing this SATB, and it sounds fantastic....

  • I sang in the Alabama All-State choir my senior year in 2006. One of the best experiences of my life!

  • That is my favorite choir song ever! And I'm on choir.

  • WoW!

  • I love this song, it's so calming

  • we sing this song at my high school, but we sing it SATB..and yea the TTBB sounds nice but i prefer the SATB.. I just enjoy how the sopranos sound when it gets to the rising point of the song

  • wow unprofessional in the middle get over your hair your on stage jeebs

  • This sounds AMAZING!!!!

  • This song has some of the most beautiful accompaniment ever.

Wooooooooow, after 4:10, you guys sound AMAZING!!!! I'm surprised at how much I like this version. I'm still partial to SATB just because it's four distinct levels of voices so it adds a bit more dimension and the soprano part always give me chills...but you guys ROCKED THIS SONG!!!! Major kudos. : )

  • SATB on this song?!?!?! it ruins the purpose! this is meant to be sung by people who can make it sound powerful! and you dont think the difference between a bass and a 1st tenor is distinct?!! your razyy

  • why are you being so rude? she is just stating her opinion. shes not saying one is better than the other shes saying she likes one more than the other. also she never said there wasnt a distinct difference between bass and tenor 1. she simply said that between a girl and guys voice there is a unique difference. and on another note your being sexist saying girls have no power in there voices.

  • You're right.

I sand T1 that year :) Berry was the piano player (other than The Awakening). Thanks for the video!

  • i love the powerful minor chord at around 2:00... "withered and died"

  • He was the clinician for Alabama all state in 2007...I sung t2 during that year.

  • @scarrolll9 i sung t2 that year as well...i remember how everyone got all hyped up because we had convinced him to do the accompliment for it like right before we had to perform

  • I wish i could find a recording where the bass' low d flat can be heard because i rock that note like crazy and i'm the only one in my men's chorus that has a big enough voice to project that low of a note so i'm the only one who sings it.

  • Our men's choir sang this song at a competition and they won gold! Beautiful song!

  • My school does this song every year in our mens choir, and the only way to do it is TTBB it just sounds better in every aspect. sorry if I offended any of you but it just does

  • how can you say that! the part at 2:30 just isnt the same without the sops.... so powerful....

  • I agree. The sop part at 2:30 gives me goosebumps and without that it's less good.

  • Disagree. I'm very partial to mens choir singing this because I feel like a rich quality guys' tone is so much more preferable to a shrill soprano tone, which, as a female who sings both alto and soprano, I believe can ruin a song all together.

  • TTBB is the only way to sing this song in my opinion. All male TTBB gives it a deep resounding tone that just gets me deeper than SATB, which can end up shrill if it's not done properly.

  • that was amazing. =] first time i've ever heard the TTBB version. i do prefer it SATB tho. but i just like more variation in voices.

  • i most definately like it better TTBB.

    It sounds better.

  • I'm not saying that this is bad I'm just saying that i prefer SATB over TTBB because when everyone's doing the awake awake part i think that the sopranos complete it. But that's just my opinion

  • no amber... it sounds better with just the men... sapranoes tend to go sharp on there high notes and when it comes to stoccatto or however you spell it the girls loose theyre pitch then go flatt... after that its just a roller coaster ride to H-E-DOUBLE-L...

  • People are correcting how someone interupts music? lame.

  • ahem...

    I chreamed a chream?

    it's a "D".

  • good call

  • i absolutely prefer this TTBB. SATB is ok, but being a first tenor myself, I'd much rather hear it sung TTBB

  • I totally agree, I was a first tenor also. It sounds weird when I hear the SATB version because I sang the TTBB version in All-State a few years ago.

  • Greatest song my choir has ever sang. And the piano part is really fun to play! Challenging at first but fun!

  • Measures 90 and 94 should not have been staccato. the phrases are joyus and rejoicing and therefore need to flow. Separating the words decreases from the overall effect of the phrase and changes the meaning. The score makes no indication of breaking the words up for a reason. I understand that the Director can interpret it how he wants, but it makes no sense to me why he did that

  • too much "uh" in the "i dreamed a dream",sil"uh"nt?, tear drops fell like rain too fast, tenors over the top not from under the pitch, pp=pretty powerful not so soft that the piano covers you, equality plz at no alleluia... tenors, eliminate the uh plz, silent is awakes too fast solite needs to glide the last awake awake needs to be a little louder, tenors louder... balance,i didnt hear the doh-ti in begun, and again in sound, the end not powerfull enough, great recording though, little more work

  • by it is the most beautiful song ive ever heard and sung in my life. we did this in a sight reading choir i was in this year. when we 1st sang this song (sight reading it) no one ever missed a single note. when we were done, no one said a word. thats how powerful it was. its so glorious

  • i looove this song. my concert choir is doing it and it's an absolutely gorgeous piece.

  • The men's choir at my high school (Hazen) sang this at our Winter concert this year.

It almost made me cry actually... :P

  • Does anyone know where I can find a recording of this song?

  • there is one on iTunes...by the Corpus Christi male choir or something like that...it isnt too bad

  • The men's choir im in at Wausau West High School is singing this in our Spring concert. I have to admit, this is probably one of my favorite pieces ever sang in choir by far. it sounds GREAT as a full mens song, im not really fond of a SATB type.

  • Glad i found this...our mens choir in college (Clemson) sang this and it was by far my favorite that we performed...good work.

  • awesome job!, my male ensamble group is performing this for our spring concert this year, i am so excited!

  • you guys did very well!

    it gives me chills

  • Im about to sing this song for a concert in a week and im one of three tenor 2s, worried like none other im going to miss the no allelujah for them because its disanant (mind the spelling). You guys did this very well.

  • my guys choir did this for state as well i think its better than the SATB version......this is by far the most beautiful mens song around and it was performed so well by yall. good job and i almost cried the fist time i sang this but we performed this with 12 men i loved it. Good job once again

  • This song is the best song that I've ever heard in my life. It has true meaning to me since I'm a musician and a singer and at the part 'Awake, awake,' I get chills everytime. Joseph Martin has made a beautiful and memorable piece. Kudos to him.

  • i love this song, it's so amazing.. yall sound really good! i wish you could've heard at all state when joseph martin conducted and played with the ttbb choir.. wow. :)

  • No. I'm right. Promise. I was in this choir, and my Dad recorded us singing this. This is Lee High Magnet School.

  • I must back him up. LOL I recognize a few of them. I'm a Bob Jones High School alumnus. I'd recognize Lee if I saw em.

  • @Phentleman Ya'll were amazingg (: the boys in my choir sang this for festival and since it was just for the boys the girls couldnt learn it. but since we couldnt do anything cuz our teacher was working with boys we sang with them during class. i love singing it! which boy wer you?

  • Considering that there were 20 or so guys, and compared to the ff's and fff's later on in the song, the "No alleluia" had perfect dynamics.

  • I've sung this SATB before and now I get to do it TTBB for Contests!!! Excited? You bet I am!!!

  • At the "No hallelujah" its supposed to be much bigger. That part is soo chilling! They still did a very good job though

  • HOLY CRAP DUDE!!!! I SANG IN THIS CHIOR!!! that was the year Enterprise high school got hit by the tornado.... i cried so hard.. i was so scared the high school kids left but a few of us stayed to represent Enterprise... wow its scary hearing this years later.. lol wow... i havent sung since that night...

  • I personally like the SATB version better...that's the first version I heard haha. However this is quite nice as well ^_^ I downloaded a SATB version of The Awakening off Limewire and it is sooo beautiful yet very powerful and THAT moved me to tears.

  • The tempo was all over the place, but a great performance nontheless.

  • i am singing it ttbb in 9th grade in advanced mens at riverwood

  • I sang this 2 years ago with my choir for state and we sang it in TTBB. We got a standing ovation. We are singing it again in SATB and I don't like it near as much. It still sounds good but its just different. Hearing it and singing it in TTBB makes my hair stand on end it sounds sooo good. The part where the tenors sing So-Li-De-Oh is the best song imo. The blend of parts sounds magnificent. And its that blend that you cant get with SATB.

  • I agree that Solideo Gloria is def the best part of the song, and I really think it IS best when the tenors sing it. When the soprano

s sing it in the SATB version, it's very pretty, but I feel like it lacks the gut and passion that a warm tenor voice has.

  • Exactly!... Also, when its all men singing it, we have a lot more power. We can also be quiet when we want to be but when the girls sing it it seems like all they can do is make it sound pretty and this song isn't always supposed to sound pretty. It's supposed to knock you off your feet at some parts and make you feel like crying at other parts.

  • One of the parts where the audience is suposed to be blown away as at... "No alleluia, not one hosanna, no song of love, no lullaby". When we sing it the girls always seem to be holding back a little bit. And tell the pianist good job at the part "awake awake my soul and sing, the time for praise has come, the silence of the night has passed" That part is really hard to play.

  • man i sung with the TTBB my junior year for alstate choir which had to be 07....joseph martin was our director and he played the accompliment for the performance. no offense but it was made for TTBB choirs. it just dosnt seem the same anyotherway

  • So it WAS 07! Thank you. I only did all-state in 08, so I knew nothing about previous years. I just knew that they had done it within the last 3 years. :D

  • @joy4noizjr08 Joseph Martin rewrote this song for DCINY as a SATB song as well and the rewritten version of it sounds just as amazing in my opinion.

  • @joy4noizjr08 I was at the all-state too. I was a base II in the TTBB choir. I agree about it being made for TTBB. Perfect harmonic blend. And Joseph Martin as our director was one of the best experiences of my life, along with singing this song. Just listening to the song gives me chills.

  • @roshirey i know right...that was crazy. i sometimes listen to cd of the performance and i stand firm to the belief that this song was made for a TTBB especially when he told us himself lol

  • You get a better feel for all the parts with it just being a TTBB in my opinion.

  • @fishysticks101 I definitely have to agree with that. I heard layers I couldn't in my school's SATB version. This had the more manly singer sound :D

  • That was really good but i like the SATB version better.

  • This is the original. Only a man choir can pull this piece of in my opinion. Nice low, and warm male voices, that turns into power!

  • I actually agree with this person, although that may be because this was the first version I heard, and I was actually in the choir in this video.

however, I do agree that I prefer the nice, warm, power of the men's version as opposed to the (still very pretty) SATB version

  • It was TTBB 07.

I sang it with Arab High School and am now going to UAH

  • Oh, wow! Neat. I know some people from Arab High. I love all the ones I know. Very nice people. :)

  • hell yea, all mens choir this song is amazing
