phatomvibrationX don't know what he's talking about, I'm a blood relative to this man and we didn't have any black people in our family at that time , but today we do , I have five great and amazeing first cousins and I'm 24yr old and there all younger then me, so there!!! Take the word from someone who is a member of the family !!! p.s. ask me anything I might know a little more than what you could find online.
I think phantomvibrationsX is high on something, or just confused. I searched the internet and found nothing to indicate that Jimmy Rogers, the singing brakeman had any black ancestry.
check with the Ernest Tubb record shop, they will haveJimmie and louis playing together. the name of the song is standing on the corner, and louis wife played piano on this session
believe it not not , but i was named after this man! he had a fan club in montana, prince albert was what i remembered, and mt dad could yodol just kile the singing brakeman, a tribi=ute
this is what i grew with, i'm named after jimmie rodgers. my dad could immatate better than anyone, just a tribute to you dad...Dean fox, colo. best yodelered in the stste...
Nobody could sing those old blue yodels like Jimmie. First time I've heard this song. Got to learn this one. Thanks so much raptoreagle for posting it.
@cw1310 STANDIN ON THE CORNER It was accepted procedure for Jimmie Rodgers and others who appeared somewhat white--to record black songs so that they could be sold to the white audience and all would profit...Mostly Peer..Although Rodgers did have some associations with whites--they were few and far between till the Bristol Sessions.. A quick check of history will find the father of country music and jazz--was black--not white.. His signed closeup speaks for itself.
In the early 1980s my great uncle asked me to use my portable casette player/recorder to record his Jimmie Rodgers 78s and 1960s LP re-releases onto a three pack of Certron (Wal-Mart's cheapest) blank tapes. We would put a blank tape in the recorder, put the microphone next to the record player speaker, push the 'record' button, drop the needle on the record and sit there quietly drinking iced tea so as not to have our conversations recorded in the background.
"modern" Country ain't nothin but Foreigner n Def Leppard with store bought hat n boots n spikey hair...the L.A. n N.Y. sharks done moved in and stunk it up...and fat women buy the crap
Hey Tennesse Shine; I agree with you! That's what I hate about modern country music! It's all POP! It's all about fashion and production. None of this modern stuff passes the lithmus test! Nobody has had the life of Hank or Jimmie Rodgers! Let's go back to the days of real talent; someone who can walk the walk and talk the talk without the production and promotion.
yeah your right man i hate county music for the most part but i really like this guys stuff..for some reason i dont know why but i really like it .....
you can see the signs of his illness in that old video
