I worked on an aluminum oilfield crewboat in the early 90s that has had a USCG approved addition welded to the stern. It lengthened the vessel by 12'. The vessel subsequently developed stress cracks in ballast tanks and was limited to seas <4'. They screwed up a good boat just to get a higher day rate. What a waste. Looks like the same thing happened here.
good idea basically a 110 with a drive on ramp....unfortunaltey the design was very flawed and there nothing but a big pile of shit....lol seen all of them up in baltimore all sitting at one end of the yards pretty sad really waste of a 110
yeah ths ships were built the wrong way ........ whatever i was on the CGC Padre for a year then decommed it in baltimore and i loved every second, the idea was great but poor execution...I loved the ship.
Deepwater isn't a flop but this particular part was. If you read in the comments the original poster made, he gives you a full story. Deepwater is the plans for the entire guards' facelift pretty much. Right now there is one brand new National Security Cutter in Pascagoula, MS where it was built and they're building #2 right now. So far so good.
These ships aren't seaworthy...it's a converted 110 and they added footage on the stern. I watched the CG get pounded in Washington Hearings over htis issue...you know what they say fellow CGer's, the three P's...piss poor planning!
thankful they sharpened up on this mess. i guess there is a limit to how corrupted, destructive, and wasteful this privatization profiteering can be. the sea will keep you honest in a dishonest hack world.
