That begs the question, what religious belief does the leader have? Certainly he follows Islam, albeit an extremist interpretation of it. And that at its core is the essence of religion. Religion requires a belief pattern to be followed. And since many religious dogma is left open for interpretation, a negative one could prove costly (As in the case of terrorism).

Yes, correlation is not causal, but it is the mindset that religion brings, that can lead to suicide bombings and terrorist acts. I would also argue that terrorist acts stem more from religion then non-religion as a result of these strong beliefs that are next to impossible to change. In all honesty, religion in my opinion seems to be separating people from people. At least in the major religions, christianity, islam, and judaism, the "us and them" phenomenon isn't helping better the world.
