  • Kids, don't try this at home.

My friend, he thought he's very cool and tried this with 8 grams of u235... he did manage to construct a micro uranium bullet that would hit the uranium and "ignite" it... The next day he was in a hospital suffering from radiation overdose, the room in which the reaction occurred is destroyed and police put charges on him for illegal use of u235 and dangerous experiments,,, The house was "cleaned" with anti-radioactive meterials(from his cash of course)...

  • @FearlessLT uhh.. how did he get his hands on an element with radioactive properties?

  • @FearlessLT

you do realize that 8 grams of u235 is a lot. atoms cant even be seen. to have 8g of uranium is impossible unless youre working with it in a lab

  • @linguisticschick that's what he did.. and then he illegally smuggled a small amount of it for personal experimentation..

  • its so simple.. yet brings the point quick xD

  • actually Uranium 235 is bombarded with Neutron producing Krypton 93 , Barium 140 and 3 neutrons , this 3 neutrons will react with another 3 Uranium 235 atoms producing the same , etc ..................... then BOOM

  • @xxmishooxx Plutonium produces 3 neutrons. Uranium only produces 2.

  • If the all atoms contained uranium 235 it would've been gone a long time ago.

  • very nice animation funny how it looks alot like cell devision

  • you are of course forgetting solar power, the ultimate power source so far! indeed the biggest nuclear explosion so far!!!lol.NX.

  • Nuclear Fusion is the only way this planet can continue to exist,no more waste ! anyone agree?

  • Well of course, unless an accident occurs and the world goes kaboom, then this planet won't exist at all...

So really, the only way the earth will continue to exist with an energy source are using large scale Wind Turbines and Hydro Power.

Personally I'd stick with the second, that way we won't be able to blow ourselves to shit with wind and water.

  • i don't agree nuclear fusion, if it is use properly, can be very safe and non polutating. a real advance would be the antimatter-matter anihilation, it still just a theorie but if someday it become reality we would have cheap energy with praticaly no pollution

  • @JackiexAndxGeorge hehe, just that part of the earth that has radiation. The rest will be fine. :)

  • @niklespikles totaly! :P

  • nuclear fusion is more powerfull

  • no i don't think so..

  • It is on a per mass basis, but not on a per reaction or per volume basis. Anyway, the only practical way to do fusion yet discovered is with a fission bomb compressing lithium deuteride fusion fuel and another fission bomb heating up the fusion fuel and starting the reaction.

  • the whole powerful subject is based on how much energy is released, and generally speaking fission releases more energy than fusion, so Gazzy1500 is right by saying that, and i have no idea why graymic would say anything against that comment

  • yes it is but it take a lot of heat and pression to create a nuclear fusion

  • This is kinda a dumbed down idea of what nuclear fission is.

But what your basically seeing here is the neutron being shot at the atom, causing the atom to split(although they never show that the two pieces then begin to ocelate) This spitting of the atom releases more neutrons that then go on to split more atoms, and so on and so forth. Therefor the force gets greater and faster as the reaction goes on.

  • then why will the reaction not continue for ever?

  • My guess is there is only a limited amount of U-235 in which the fission can occur.

  • When U-235 absorbs a neutron it becomes U-236*(star notes an excited nucleus). This is a deformed, rugby shaped nucleus. 18% of the time the U-236* decays to ground state by emitting a gamma ray, 82% of the time it splits into two uneven parts(one with mass number around 95 and one with mass number around 135).

The cross section for fission is dependent on the energy of the incomming neutron, as is the number of neutrons released in the reaction and the breadth of fission products produced.

  • sound?

  • Wow, can I use this for my physics class? This is amazing, lol!

  • Nicely done.

  • I dont like to say if anymore but rather when the Bomb hits i wish you all and myself mournig goodbye

  • what heavy hearted consequences have caused you to change the "if" to "when?"

If anything, we're further from a nuclear winter than we've been in 50 years.

  • well i mean with everything going on in the world of late it is only a matter of time someone just crazy enough to act upon this carnal impulse just might wake up one day and say to him or her self let me go down in history

  • i know what u mean, most people know if the button is pushed there will be nuclear bombs flying every where also killing them but then you always get soem crazy person will to kill them selfs

  • Don't worry, mates, it's not for nothing that all nuclear silos are highly protected, with codes, keys, and so on. 1 person probably couldn't do it. But if a group of people came together and trained to do just that, then yes, it'd be a great day to look at the sky.
