  • how can i reset my ecu .

  • @010addie remove the battery cables, wait 5 minutes, then put em back on.

  • scotty tell the the best obd2 scan tool

  • @010addie there are tons of em, cost is the main consideration. actron makes a good cheaper one, 150 or so. I use an Autel Maxidas for serious problems, but they cost 1500 bucks.

  • ok thanks i'll try this .

  • here is my yahoo id. addim@ymail.com plz help me

  • hi scotty kilmer i have prob with my actron cp9580 scan tool .when i connect my tool to car it cant communicate with vehicle.it shows me some link error.whats that means.waiting for resp.

  • @010addie either the wiring is bad to the data link connector, OR your ecm has problems inside it, OR a sensor is shorting out the whole thing, Unplug sensors one at a time and Pray it starts communicating

  • Scotty I had my transmission repaired recently. The valve body I believe was replaced. Once car is warm it shifts fine, no slipping in transmisson etc. The only thing is the first start of the day the car can take like 10 minutes before it is warmed up enough to get into gear before it takes off. It's an older car 88' olds ciera. Is this ok? I know older cars take longer to warm up.

  • @msw600 yes, espeically old american cars. Try putting some lucas tranny additive in it, that often helps.

  • Hey Scotty would this work on mu subaru impreza wrx sti with 2.5l engine?

  • @mrjnutube yes

  • @scottykilmer hey scotty how about my sabb 2002 9-5 mode;?

  • @fl3cko9 You can try, I've never done it cause saabs pretty much don't exist in houston, the dealers all went bankrupt for very good reasons, so I rarely work on em

  • Hi Scotty would this read transmission codes on my Ford Expedition? Please reply to me asap so I don't have to go and get ripped off at a tranny shop if I don't have to. Thank you.

  • @jjrock5 no, you need a special ford dealer level computer to do that.

  • *MTX, not nyc.

  • Would this work to disable limp mode due to transmission codes following a nyc swap?

  • would this work with Chevrolet vehicles since GM vehicles are similar ?

  • @214bigtex it works on any vehicle sold in the US since 1996

  • @scottykilmer great thanks

  • Thats the bollocks about all the software out there why not just release one piece of software that does everything instead of conning your customers into paying more.

  • @welshfluteplayer of course they are out to make money, heck, I'd be happy with manual carburetors and transmissions only myself, but that isn't happening anymore. Scotty

  • i have a dodge ram power pro tuning chip that is junk and it has a usb/obdii cable in it i was wondering if i could use that and plug it into my computer and into my talon to check the codes and see the air fuel mixture ration and all of that stuff?

  • @countryboyG you would have to have some kind of read out device to see that info, I don't see a chip having that capability. Scotty

  • Can yours read injector on time? I cant get mines to read it.

  • @contagiousFX yes, of course it can. Scotty

  • 1:05 Hey- That's my VIN!

  • 0:30 You should was the dash of the car. That shit was disgusting....

  • @Katlunazul not my car, cleaning isn't my bag on other people's stuff. Scotty

  • CAN I ADD POWER!!!!!!

  • @joewashington202 only a mechanic/programmer could figure that out, it's VERY complex. Best to leave that to experts. Scotty

  • You Rock Scotty

  • i have a '04 dodge ram1500. the engine light is on code p0441 popped up how to repair??? please help!!!

  • @shydogg02 that's the code for evap system incorrect flow. Many things can do that, but the cannister purge valve is number one, any auto parts store can show you where it is and sell you one if you want to guess. Scotty

  • damn wish this worked for my 88 mustang : /

  • OK, I JUST GOTME ONE OF THOSE OBDll AND IS THIS BETTER THAN MY CP9580? MY BROTHER NEEDS SOME TOOLS HE IS IN SCHOOL(AUTO REPAIR) AND I WANT TO HELP HIM WITH SOME TOOLS AND IF IT IS BETTER IS IT EXPENSIVE? CAN YOU GIVE ME AN IDEA PLEASE!!

  • @robertoccabrera Have him ask the instructor, tools depend upon how far you need to go and are very specific. He's know what to buy for his level of instruction. Scotty

  • Thanks I had to take to the mechanic! because they only had 1 key!

Thanks for taking the time to answer Greetings

  • Hi, I have a problem with audi a3! put the key too fast! and me on the board saldi light (inmovilizador! Description: When connecting the ignition takes place a query data to key confrontation veiculo.Esta data indicated the brebemente ignite the pilot light.)

You poker that I can repair them with this software?

    Profavor help me!

    PD: translated by google

  • @kynghuakr You have a problem with the anti theft system. go outside the car, turn the key in the door on and off to lock and unlock it 5 times, then try again. If that doesn't work, look for a known good key if you have another, cause only an audi mechanic can fix that system. Scotty

  • Hey Scotty,

I am thinking about getting the enhanced Ford software. Have you had any experience with the enhanced software and how does it really give you factory scan tool ability?

  • @frogca to a certain extent, yes. But not full factory. Scotty

  • Hey,Scotty nice videos i have a question, what are normal oxygen sensor readings?I have a 2001 silverado and it has 4 02 sensors and i bought OBII actron it tells me the live data upstream the converter the graph goes up an d down and downstream the readings are .895 volts but drops slowly like in 6 seconds what do u think it is thanks

  • @orangesilverado01 All vehicles are different, but most will go up and down regularly. Realize the data on that Actron is not live data but is actually relatively slow, so you're not getting the actual data as it exists in real time. So the info is not that accurate. An oscilliscope is needed for live data analysis. Scotty

  • another question. i did some research on my truck and found a replacement chip for the ecu. there are probably many other companies that make the same ones. if i install a new chip, can it be programmed like in the way your video shows us? and if i have to replace the ecu entirely, are there aftermarket programmable ecu units that you would reccommend? thanks again for your time.

  • @bikr1975 chip computers can not be reprogrammed, just chips changed. NAPA sells decent reprogrammed computers. Scotty

  • scotty, got a question for you, can i re - program the ecu on my 94 ford explorer?? i want to re - program the ecu to get better gas mileage. i heard its possible if it can be flashed. any of your personal knowledge of gadgets or give simple instructions on "how to" would be greatly appreciated. thanks for reading.

  • @bikr1975 No, that things too old, it's OBD I, and can't be changed. scotty

  • There's a recall on those S10 tailgate cables

  • do you know if you have the ford enhanced program with the auto enginuity, if you can program PATS keys.

  • @alhkfas Yes, they are very handy software programs. Scotty

  • I need help please I keep having cars that the readiness monitors will never get ready to pass emission and they don't have codes what can I check to see whats not making them get ready by the way the system does goes in closed loop for me all the pid looks fine. thank you.

  • @theworks9 Yep, they're complex as hell these days. And some vehicles, such as VWs, will never reset themselves, they need to be driven and manually reset by a mechanic. When they don't reset in other cars that are made to do that by driving them yourself, something is wrong in the system. something not bad enough to trip a code, but bad enough to not allow reset. Many times it's bad oxygen sensors , you might check that first. Sotty

  • does it show u where the sensors located

  • how much is that that be cool to have im into tuning car i like my car to run the best

it can before i spend my money to fix my car a lot of mechanics are rip offs where

    i live

  • Cost about 300 basic. This is a diagnostic tool For tuning I use a different software try Flashpro

  • Hey Scotty, Thanks for the input. Also will firmer shifts in the auto trans make it last longer or hurt longevity?

  • @bcoverss The shifts themselves don't hurt anything, it's just how fast you accelerate that can strain the transmission and wear it out. Scotty Kilmer

  • Hey Scotty can this be used for high performace tuning like a Superchips unit?

  • @bcoverss Yes, if you have the software to upload, realize it's pretty complex stuff. Scotty Kilmer

  • I have a 1995 toyota camery so I guess this video doesnt apply to me huh. How can I check for my engine problems??

  • Yes, that car is one year too old, 96 went to OBD II. For yours, you would need an OBD I scanner, so search the web for an old used one you can get cheap. They originally cost a lot, but being that old you might find a discount one now. Scotty Kilmer

  • The older toyotas keep codes in flash memory using the check engine light to give you coding information.

  • Theres a record function you can use to play it back to find out whats wrong. Yeah Ok how do you know whats wrong by looking at data if you have no idea what good data is suppose to be, this guys an idiot.

  • No, au contraire, you are the idiot who doesn't know anything about cars. But anyone can learn, if they want to read a little and do some studying. Nothing good ever comes easy. Scotty Kilmer

  • yea.........no its not hard to see bad waves, and my solus dont show good waves, oh yea neither did our mentor. so your point is????????????????

  • Scotty, in your opinion, are there any advantages in using a stand-alone scan tool vs using pc based scan tool software? Ive decided Id finally like to invest in a scan tool, but Im alittle leery about buying any of the stand alone units that are aimed at the DIY market. It seems people are saying updates for these units can be spotty. Scan tool software seems a better alternative. Your opinion please?

  • I'm a BIG believe in pc based software like this auto enginuity. it does more, is easy to use, and blows away stand alone tools you're going to buy ( I doubt you want to invest four to six grand in a good stand alone like Modis.) Scotty Kilmer

  • Thank you for the reply Scotty. Im sold, pc based software for me.

  • does this software mess with srs and abs.Another question is i have a tacoma truck that keeps getting a check engine light for lean.Ive done all the basic procedures to fix the problem but still occurs would this product be able to help me pin point the problem without spending a ton of money on o2 sensors and maf sensors?

  • No, you can check some of those systems with it, but it doesn't change any of the basic software. As for the leanness, on those vehicles it's almost always a bad or dirty mass air flow sensor. IF you understood what normal air flow sensor data is, you can read it live with this system and see if it's off or not. Scotty Kilmer

  • yea thats what i was thinking what do you recomend to use to clean t the maf sensor without dammaging it.

  • Use mass air flow sensor cleaner. They sell it at any decent auto parts store. Scotty Kilmer

  • I have this scan tool and live in South Africa and it works well for me on our vehicles no problems so its not only particular to the US

  • You do not actuate sensors. Sensors just sense or read something. You actuate actuators, relays, etc. What you are actuating is outputs from a computer, not inputs as described by this video.

  • OK, a bit of loose tech talk on my behalf. I meant actuating devices, like idle air control valves or AC compressor clutches. Scotty Kilmer

  • By the way do you guys recommend using a particular brand of lap tops ? Our teacher was using Dell and it didn't really work well but I think it's because the computer isn't taken care of.

  • I used to swear by dells, but now I swear at them. Their quality has gone downhill lately. I've got a couple Toshibas, and they've been great, plus the last one only cost hundred buck. Scotty Kilmer

  • Thats what I have but don't really wanna turn it into a scan tool since I really like it, anyway you just confirmed what I thought, will be looking for a hundred buck toshiba, dont think its real unless its used. Odessataity.

  • This sure does beat back probing.

  • yes, it doesn't mess up any of the wiring and potentially ruining computer circuits. Scotty Kilmer

  • dont bother doing this if you dont have a clue about cars, trouble codes can only point you in the direction of the fault, you need knowledge of how vehicles work to be able to interprit the data, and the use of an osiliscope, ammeter etc. waste of money on the software, might aswell pay someone to do it rather than fuck about

  • Very interesting.........

  • Yes, that's the DTC, or detected trouble code part that I showed the software automatically detecting in the video. It will give you the trouble code number and description, and then you can go to that section of the vehicle using this software to see what kind of data is coming out of that system. Pretty neat stuff. Scotty Kilmer

  • @scottykilmer do u have to be online for this equipment

  • its not as easy as it used to be but thats why we get paid the big bucks now days
