Just go on a reality show and sing a few songs with no talent and next thing youve sold 500 000 albums. No hard grind the top....(remember that song "its a log way to the top " by ACDC Dr edelstone10 .???
Aussie music in the early 80's was at its peak i think. OILS,COLD CHISEL,AUSSIE CRAWL,DRAGON,MI SEX,AND LOADS LOADS MORE.no more venues means no more music....Just an overload of american trash.
@edelstone10 And turn the radio on i do , find me 5 Aussie bands from the last ten years who are popular and will be as popular in ten to 25 years time and remembered as the few i mentioned for Great memorable songs and are influential to a generation of people and bands your doing well. Most kids cant even name 5 Aussie bands these days, ask them, but they will rattle of a hundred OS bands.
It would be hard to do as you asked (find the long lasting songs, name the bands etc) however this is more to do with the compelxity of the Australian music scene:
1. Hard to distinguish Aussie from international - the quality is equal.
2. Massive hits are becoming fewer and fewer (because bands are playing to smaller nich markets).
Sure Aussie Crawl etc were big (and good), but they were the pioneers which made them standout.
@motorcycledude1000 .............and lets also be clear: Cold Chisel, Aussie Crawl, Mi Sex, and Dragon are no longer popular, nor have they been for many years. They have miserably failed your 25yr test.
Getting airtime with Dazza and Bazza on Triple M doesn't constitute popular.
@edelstone10 I was done and dusted with this....But now brought it up again my first comment was about music that peaked in Australia and still gets airtime today 30 years on. None of your triple J trash will be known or played or popular in 30 years.By the way Cold Chisel is without a doubt the greatest band to come out of this Country besides INXS and ACDC..And i was talking about the overload ofAmerican shit we have to put up with today. No venues no hard grind to the top like then.
"Broke down at a truck-stop. Got wet sweat under a hard top. Wrong directions are shown. Threw up in the men's restroom. This is not the way home. Shotgun freckle the road signs. Wind burn across the white line. So much nothing has grown. Finished our 5th six-pack. This is not the way home." Aussie-Aussie!
Such a great road trip tune. One of the best Australian songs of all time. And agree with the other comments that The Cruel Sea were criminally underrated.
@64roo Yes, you're right, that's how it went on the CD. To think parents don't want their kids to hear aware words, but I remember my step father playing this album at tea time when I was 10, I didn't even notice the swearing.
2am falling out of the Bent Prop, N Taylor Rd, Eloy AZ....AND just about ready for a joint, providing you can find your way back to the trailer? Any skydivers here will know EXACTLY what I mean.......This is THE song!
they do an awesome live version of this on the gig thats viewable at moshcam.com. I,m from canada I love this song and this band , PS get into the fauves
This is one fuckin band that never EVER got anywhere near the kind of musical acclaim iit should have. Ballsy, no-nonsense, honest and gutsy Oz rock with genuine talent to boot. Fuck Countdown, MTV (in its Australian incarnation) for ignoring this band!
You tell him, like the EA horn, we had an EB station wagon with a cargo barrier to keep the dogs in the back. In that light green. I had an XC V8 while the Missus had the EB
This is one of the best Aussie songs of all time, And yeah it makes me want to get out there and do a massive road trip. I did Melbourne to Rocky inland and then Sydney to cairns inland and this song sums it up perfectly.
This song makes me want to go bush with my buddies, find a rusted car wreck in the middle of no-where, and then sink 200 SG shells into it. Then, drink a six pack, and then do it all over again. Fuck yeah. Love it.
Where's the honeymoon is over clip, FUCK
