Actually, his Republican Leadership was so poor in MA he saw a drop in registered republicans and didn't have the courage to even put up a challenge in several districts. His successor, Kerry Healy only held about 30% of the vote, due largely in part to many registered Republicans dislike of Romney and his flip flops.

The resources also cited for Romney's poor performance include local papers, state records (illegal to forge), and quotes from Conservatives.
