Many thanks for that. Oddly, it seems that, although Haymes appeared in the film he didn't sing this particular song; a young girl sings it (dubbed). There's also an instrumental version in the film. I can't say for sure tho that Haymes doesn't sing it in the film.
Do you have any more details of Whiting's TV appearance, I mean the kind of thing I can put in a bibliography? (I'm taking a part of an MA and trying to trace the song through its many versions from 1945 to now.)
@simon12321 - Hi Simon, Margaret Whiting did indeed record 'It Might As Well Be Spring' with Paul Weston's Orchestra, and it was a Top 10 hit in America for her during 1945 - but as I'm sure you know, she didn't appear in the film 'State Fair', where I believe it was sung by Dick Haymes.
My 'youtube' version is from a TV appearance by Margaret some 10 year later. I believe it was performed 'live' with an audience, so I doubt if the applause was dubbed. ... Brian
Margaret & her sister Barbara Whiting starred as themselves in a situation comedy "Those Whiting Girls" produced by Desilu Productions, aired on CBS as a summer replacement series (in place of I Love Lucy) between July 1955 & Sept 1957.

Fascinating. I'm doing some research into this song and it's various versions. Would you mind if I asked a few questions such as:
Weston and Whiting made a record in 1945. This is not from the 1945 State Fair film, is it?
Is that dubbed applause?
Why the film clip? If it is from a film what is the film?

Thank you for posting it. I think it is my favorite but she sang so many great songs it's hard to decide.
