I liked this episode- it was like a take off of Rebecca (film of the book ) - thought this ep was funny - bet if you got ten Get Smart fans together and asked for their top ten there'd be a few absolute classics we'd all agree on but I bet there would be a few variables too-no two fans would have the same ten eps!
Do you think this episode really was a spoof of "Rebecca" by Daphne du Maurier? I read that book this past summer and could help but find similarities!
99 @ 1:42-1:43: "Why are they all staring at me?"
My reply:
Good Lord, woman, have you SEEN you? How could someone NOT stare?!?
You missed the scene in which 99 and Max confer under the table. That scene alone (owing to the decolletage) was responsible for jump-starting me into an early puberty.
It would have been awesome if you would have included the "his cow killed a hawk, you know" scene. Barbara's facial expression in this scene is pure comedy.
I'm afraid that this is one of the all-time worst episodes of the series, in my opinion. Don reverting back to his "Thin Man" take off for the apparent cause of episode filler was embarassing to watch. This episode was one of a number of fifth-seasoners that cried out that GS was OVER. Worse than either the infamous "Ice Station" or "Columbus", dare I say.
It certainly wasn't my favorite episode either! That's why there's only three minutes worth of clips. I just wanted it up to clarify that 99's name was never revealed. However, I would say (just my opinion of course) that "Columbus" was still worse than this... it felt like the writers didn't even try with that one! That said, I think Get Smart on its worst episodes was still better than many of today's TV shows on their best! :)
My fav is "Farkas Fracas". I'm generally drawn more to seasons two and four; (season) one was outstanding; season three had a number of terrific eps and many moments within mediocre eps; season five had several decent shows and a handful of respectable jokes within yawners. Most episodes in the second season are solid gold, quitessential GS, like "Appointment in Sahara", "Island of the Darned", etc. The fourth season "Sam Vittorio" is a classic of shameless silliness. Out of space...........
Oh, "Farkas Fracas" was great! Poor Chief and Max... they looked very pained indeed! Although my strongest sympathy went to 99... unexpected dinner company and no dessert to serve them! I've been in a similar position and it's just not fun! Of course, Tom Bosley and Alice Ghostly were a treat. I think that season 4 is probably my favorite. I wasn't big on "The Impossible Mission" but I thought all the rest flowed really nicely! Seasons 1 and 2 also house some of my fav. episodes!
We'll let Sebastian out of his room.
