i'm going to build a new computer and i'm wondering if i can use my current pc to burn the cd and install this as a first system anyone please respond
please help i have fedora and i wanted to install ubuntu. and i installed and iso and burned it to a cd but when i try to reboot nothing happens i just get to the fedora screen every time
WOW. I'm so dumb. I should've known that it was to burn to a CD, obviously in the instructions that it's clearly said to burn it to a CD, but I never paid attention to that and instead I burnt it to a DVD. No wonder my computer never booted the installation disc! It was suppose to be burnt into CD! GOSH, I FEEL SO STUPID.
@quesomanrulz Thanks for the heads up of saying it and catching my attention at the beginning of the video.
Sorry for this noob question but I'm not sure I get it, if I chose to install Unbuntu, will it destroy my old partitions, my files etc or can I like create a new partition without deleting something else ?

Whoa, the size is actually smaller than video file! Wait, I got a question. Which have a bigger size? Is it this video(in a video file after you finished recording) or the Ubuntu installation size is bigger? Usually, when I record with Fraps, it goes like +1GB. I can just install this Operating System(Ubuntu) on a 700MB disc. I found a pile of them near my PC.
Thanks man mine is installing right now but i took windows off i like linux better so some more disk space for linux and i got the disk at a book store for 2.50 it was a good deal there were like 60 of them and it came with a book with instructions on how to get your linux running very good deal!
I'm using an Acer w/ Vista that has developed a psychotic personality. When I turn it on, I press F2 & the menu comes up. As I understand it, I must press F6 in the Boot menu until CD drive is at the top of the list, then F10 to save and exit. Then....Windows Vista runs - not Ubuntu from the CD drive. What am I doing wrong?
I'm so close to taking the damn thing outside & throwing it in the river!
Im having trouble installing ubuntu on my computer. i have the dvd with the iso image already and so i boot from the cd drive. then it brings me into the ubuntu menu and so when i click try ubuntu without any changes, my monitor goes blank and i cant use my keyboard but the cd drive is still runnuning wat should i do?
Quick ? for you. The 8 GB you have shown, is that what you had partitioned already previously, or is that the remaining space on the HD? Great tutorial btw.
@xXDjLyRiCzXx yes. if you install ubuntu on a separate partition, or even within windows, you will be able to choose which one you want to start when you turn on the computer
Hey buddy what's up just leaving a thank you note for this tutorial. It's my first time installing Ubuntu so I had no idea what I was doing so figured I YouTube it and this video came up. Thanks alot I very much appreciate it.
@productionsgonebad Almost all are, some are easier because their drivers are included with the OS, but there are drivers for almost all mainstream hardware.
my friend windows shutdown.. and must reinstall windows.. he have xp can i install him this linux.. and dont need another drivers just install this via cd or flash .. pls tell me :D
@ilovemyniga are you tying to say that your friends computer fucked up and now you want a no hassel install. if it wasn't a hard drive failure YES you can use linux and install from the cd without downloading any extra drivers.
im not sure what happened but when i started up, theres a fuckload of mess all over the screen and it looks weird and it scares the shit out of me and makes me feel like my computer crashed
@airgeek11 Run off the CD first without installing on the hard drive. This will tell you if your hardware works (sounds like you have a video driver issue). It will run REALLY slow....but when you get it working (check the forums), you can install.
i have a problem with installing ubuntu. i have a sceptre laptop running windows 2000 and when i put the cd to install it it says installing ubuntu and then goes to the green screen and stops can you tell me what i am doing wrong?
@t0xicfru1t Try it! Every XP machine I've installed Ubuntu on, works great. You don't need to buy a new machine to get a modern OS. One is a 6 year old laptop with 256M. Slow, but works.

@sphinx013 Yes! This is one of the many uses for Ubuntu. Will the computer run all of the attached hardwares if Ubuntu wipes out all of the existing data and drivers? Basically I want to format my old XP hard drive and replace it with Ubuntu.

@ProMayuke I believe that Ubuntu now has official USB boot support, although I have never tried it. Just make sure you follow the USB boot instructions they provide and it should work. It will involve partitioning that external drive though, which is somewhat inconvenient.
I can't find the reup disks for XP desktop and never had one for my laptop(I think it has the reup on the laptop hard drive but I think the virus ate it... I just got a Netbook and the widows 7 reup is on there somewere. I like to download risky files...my plan was if I get a virus throw the reup disk at it. They are gone. I guess I am wondering how safe...If this OS is safe behind a partition while a very slow malware ridden XP is lurking on the hard disk.
If I stall Ubuntu on my hard drive and get rid of windows is there anyway I can install windows again? oh and do I need any anti-virus software for Ubuntu?
I have a laptop that has Windows, and whenever I turn it on, Windows starts up, but while it's loading, it restarts itself. It keeps doing that and never stops. So I decided to put Ubuntu on my laptop, but I Burned Ubuntu on my PC. If I put the disk in my laptop, what do I do after that? Or can I not burn it on one computer and put it on another?
this is like the best explanation on the interweb lol cus you start from the beginning and don't just assume we know how to burn cd's lol THANKS DUDE!!!!
Thank you SO much, I couldn't figure out how to get hte computer to boot from my CD - apparently I burnt it on incorrectly, thanks to your vid I was able to get the iso onto the CD and it automatically booted from it. Now I have Ubuntu (Hooray!)
so if i install ubuntu, can i just connect to my wireless internet? i have ubuntu 9.10. yes, i have taken a look at the network settings (like typing the SSID and the password). About 6 months ago, i installed ubuntu 64-bit and it crashed with my graphic/screen card. (i have ATI). And the internett was laggy, and i couldent find any drivers. I will try to install 32-bit know. I am very nooby at this stuff so help? btw i have a "Amilo notebook xa 3530"
I installed Ubtunu a few months ago, while keeping my hard-drive half-Windows Vista. Ever since I got Ubuntu, Windows hasn't been on the menu when booting, Ubuntu just pops up automatically. With Ubuntu, it doesn't let me do anything with my pictures really, so do you know how to get Windows Vista back on the menu when it boots? Thanks. :)

Question: I have an existing Dell computer running XP Pro and I want to wipe the entire hard drive to install Ubuntu. Will I be able to do this? Will the computer run all of the attached hardwares if Ubuntu wipes out all of the existing data and drivers? Basically I want to format my old XP hard drive and replace it with Ubuntu.

will a dvd+r work?
ProMayuke 1 year ago
@ProMayuke Its a waste of a DVD because you're only using like 1/8th of the DVD space. But sure, it will work.
quesomanrulz 1 year ago
@quesomanrulz it's 4.7 GB how big is the file?
ProMayuke 1 year ago
@ProMayuke About 700mb, fits perfectly on a cd.
quesomanrulz 1 year ago
@quesomanrulz what about a USB hard drive will that work?
ProMayuke 1 year ago

RedBladeXero3 1 year ago
I have a laptop that has Windows, and whenever I turn it on, Windows starts up, but while it's loading, it restarts itself. It keeps doing that and never stops. So I decided to put Ubuntu on my laptop, but I Burned Ubuntu on my PC. If I put the disk in my laptop, what do I do after that? Or can I not burn it on one computer and put it on another?

I installed Ubtunu a few months ago, while keeping my hard-drive half-Windows Vista. Ever since I got Ubuntu, Windows hasn't been on the menu when booting, Ubuntu just pops up automatically. With Ubuntu, it doesn't let me do anything with my pictures really, so do you know how to get Windows Vista back on the menu when it boots? Thanks. :)

if you install this on a separate partition along with Windows, will it ask you to either boot from Ubuntu or Windows when starting up your computer?
