  • just tell the haters "God gave me diabetes because he knew I was strong enough to handle it"

  • Type one diabetes is an autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks and kills healthy cells in the pancreas. It's not something you can stop or prevent, and anyone can get it. I wish more people would understand the difference between type 1 and type 2. People ask me "how come you have diabetes when you're skinny"... Even my doctor got it mixed up and said i had the life style induced diabetes.. it's an insult to people who didn't bring it on, we need more education about type one!!

  • @shugalooker It's odd but most of the remarks such as seen in the video that I've been exposed to as a T2 have come from T1s. Fwiw I'm 5'11", 160 lbs, 11.4 stone. People far skinnier than me get T2. Recent research indicates T2 may involve an AI attack on insulin receptors instead of the pancreas causing insulin overproduction in an effort to compensate. Insulin is the hormone controlling fat deposition and excess insulin makes some T2s fat. If you want education try yourself first.

  • I think I may have diabetes, Im really scared :C I feel so sorry for the people who do, what did they do to be bullied. I really don't want to use insulin though, because Im scared of injections. If I have, i think its gonna ruin my life...

  • My best friend who I have known since I born has suddenly turned round and called me a freak for having it. I am use to the fact people call me a druggie ect and am use to everyone giving me "the look" when I inject myself but to have my best friend call me that made me for the first time feel like I was a piece of crap. I would love to see this on the TV so my frields understand what it feels like to live with Diabetes or for a newer to be made, thank you to whoever reads this

  • @cook12435 That's very sad to hear. We hear from a lot of people who unfortunately get similar comments made towards them, and it's unacceptable. Hopefully this video highlights the issues young people face, and we can help to stop any discrimination. Hope you're ok :)

  • People need to know more about this I cant go into to public with my insullin without everybody looking at me and ALOT More people need to know about this because its sad that people think im a drugee or something when im just trying to live with something because when they look at me like they do it makes me sad.

  • Thanks you for this video. This should clear up some info for my friends.

  • type 1 diabetes should be called diabetes type two well i dunno maybe l.i.d low insulin deficiency or something but the link must be broken people can not be expected to know any diff but it does wreck my head the way type two ''diabetics'' go on

  • This, my friends, is why society has turned to absolute shit.

If they said that to me I would punch them in the face!

4 years with type 1 and know one has said that sort of stuff to me.

  • @1DrummerNick ive had diabetes for 4 years in april 27 and no one has told me anything i truely feel blessed that my family and friends were so understanding about my condition but i still get looks when im injecting at restruants and public places but its ok

  • @1DrummerNick Same thing here i actually got realy angry watching the video believe it or not I felt like punching my computer :/ If anyone said those things to me i would beat them. ( and im not the one to start anything )

  • Why would anyone act this way. Idk how anyone could say those types of things

  • Great video,I have type 1 also and I'm sick of people thinking that I brought this on myself.Type 1 diabetes is only 5% of the entire diabetic population and yet when the media portrays the disease they dont take the effort to differentiate the two types. They say diabetes as its general term and this causes type 1's to be looked down on due to the people's perception of type 2.If there was a petition to change the name of type 1 diabetes to something else, I would! This would help clarify things

  • @SammySoliman Perhaps better education and more awareness raising would be better than changing the name? Glad you like the video :)

  • aww maya u look soo cutee in diz x

  • Finally, this is like the best EVER!!! My sons a diabetic, hes now 10yrs. Im so worried about him going to senior school, any advice!!!!

  • My gosh! after all these years, fiunally! This is like I was bullied as a diabetic whne I was a kid-almost exactly. The types of commetns are the same! I WAS CALLED A DOPE-HEAD,AND THAT I SHOOT UP ! Noone back then talked about bullies in relation to diabetes, though--it's about time!

  • I've got type 1 and i don't get bullyed about it but i know somebody how has been bullyed about it and thats why I tried to keep it quiet because i didn't want to be bullyed about but knows its all out in the open i'm glad i don't get bullyed

  • I have Type one, and have had it for many years. I will be sure to spread this video around.

  • If only i can get the courage to put this on facebook :( Great video.

  • yea i agree i hate the association with people with type 2. the only diabetes we are ever taught about or hear about in the news is type 2 so if people where made aware of difference between type 2 and 1 there wudnt be so many problems its all ignorance. i was got told i must of been fat ina past life to be diabetic in this life lol idiot

  • Good video.. all my mates think my diabetes was caused by my diet, i think type two diabetes should change the name.. its really annoying! :)

  • @belliott6969 I agree.

  • that seemed a little over the top the way they were taunting her. but i'm sorry if that really has happened to anyone.

  • Got T2 diabetes and not on insulin yet, working on site, I do overhear comments about other people who have T1 and most of the people have no idea about it, so usually clarify it for them...

  • Im diabetic and I dont think its appropriate to inject anywhere public such as the staff canteen or resturants. I always go to the toilet myself when I have to.

  • The problem is that bathrooms are not clean...and no one should be forced to do injections there. I would agree that you shouldn't do injections in certain areas in public but what's wrong with injecting in your arms, legs (if wearing shorts) or stomach, especially if you're discrete about it? luckily I no longer have to use insulin pens or syringes since I got an insulin pump (omni pod). I just use my tester to tell the pump what to do and I never have to look at it.

  • I compleatly agree with you. BTW, hows the OmniPod? My doc is going to put me on either the OmniPod or the Minimed in august. I am soooooo exited.

  • @kelliwisethebrave

I just take mine at the table in a restaurant. The table I'm sitting at covers my leg any way.lol

  • What is wrong with give yourself insulin in public? you should not feel that you need to hide your desease and not worry about what other people think. I always inject insulin in places like resuraunts. There is nothing wrong with it.

  • @empyphil I'm glad that works for you but in hospital, when people need injections, do they take them to the least sanitary room in the building to do so? No.

  • the "well done maya" was hannanh and olivia lol

  • I am also type 1 diabetic and have experianced the same type of thing at work, and to top it off the manager called me into his office and told me I should no longer inject my insulin in the staff canteen and if I was seen doing it I would be disciplined...I no longer work there !!

    NICE VID

  • I think it is rediculous that your boss told you that. I think doing injections in public is fine. Good for you for quiting the job!

  • It's not just kids. I get odd looks when I use my insulin pen at restaurants. But I don't hide it... no one should.

I'm not sure I like the distinction about type 1 and type 2 though... does it really matter how you got it? The point is, you have to use insulin, and people just need to get their head around that.

  • I also have type 1. You are right, no one should hide their insulin, it is nothing to be ashamed about. I do not like the distinction either. My dad has Type 2 and it is not any better for them. And it is parcily heretitary too.
