  • Same here, what's the song at the end ?

  • Does anyone know the song in the film thats cut off at the end of the clip?

  • @doctorbrinker I remember it being in Punch-Drunk Love, but I don't remember the exact name.

  • @doctorbrinker It's the song "Waikiki" performed by Ladies K as it appears in the movie "Punch-Drunk Love" (and on its soundtrack as well).

  • The thing about Jon Brion is, he has the ability to see past the acting and faces people portray in their daily lives, and under stands the rhyme and reason of social norms that force people to be who they are. But he uses that understanding to reach out and relate, to the deep down true inner self of the people who listen to his songs talks to you where you're most vulnerable. The part of yourself that you thought only you knew.

  • @brandoncondo, I don't find it to be sad at all! I think it is hopeful about love. We have our blinders on, feel stranded, etc until you meet that person. "Amidst all the to and fro, someone can say 'hello.' Here we go." It's interesting that we saw two completely different things in this song.

  • Thank you

  • 0:54 =/ ... niceeee movie :(

  • Does anyone know the chords?

  • @Guitmig1 Am, F#, F, Em

  • @Parri13 Aaa thank you what I couldn't get was the F#. Thanks!

  • That Jon Brion fella has some unlimited talent!!!!..reminds me of Lennon alot

  • Is this out on CD? Is it from his solo album?

  • @skyling94 Why was this spammed? He was truly great, oscar worthy in fact.

  • amazing song

  • Greatness!!

  • AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL SONG!!!!!!!!

  • a great song

  • I don't get it! most of this scenes weren't in the movie..

  • @eliasmartinezlobelle Those scenes are in Blossoms and Blood.

  • awesome movie,alot of visual clues to the characters personalty almost subliminal and the lyrics here suit barry perfectly;

  • So proud of being a human being sometimes. Well, these times.

  • thank you

  • I think this was Adam Sandler's best performance ... plus that great Jon Brion soundtrack.

  • I cant believe he hasnt released the song Back and Forth fom the Step Brothers movie! that little 1min snippet was bs!

  • trying to decide if this song im working on could be in

an indie movie. what do you think?

    /watch?v=yaftufNVozU

  • this is one of my dreams

  • whats the name of this movie?

  • @vinipacheco182 it's Punch Drunk Love directed by Paul Thomas Anderson :)

  • is this from a movie??

  • Thank you!

  • this has definitely inspired Rolfe Kent when he was scoring 'Dexter'.

  • @ZiggyJFox Right??? That's EXACTLY what I thought when I hear it first, the beginning is *so* similar to the "the house" theme from 1st season...

  • This song and movie remind me of that graphic novelist Daniel Clowes....the art of loneliness.

  • that was sublime , thank you for posting !

  • man i looove this melody. was in my head all day! his voice fits so good to it <3

  • i think this is the reason why kanye west let him produce on late registration

  • are those deleted scenes from PDL?

  • hello everyone you can visit jonbrion.net!

  • i fucking am IN LOVE with this song <33 so glad i finally found it!

  • There is a certain amount of Wangst in this movie....but I think this journey is about how another eccentric artist helps save him from that darkness. As A. Sandler's character is so damned beautiful.....this movie is about how the power of friendship and love can save someone trying desperately to climb out of the abyss......

  • Why the hell wasn't this in the movie ?

  • @Fa300 because the song is so fking great that will compite with the movie ...

  • Really a sad song.....you've gotta hope that there's someone for you as strange as you are who can cope with the things that you do without trying to hard. hes got a grasp on reality, the ending really got me. his voice suits the lyrics its kinda creepy but in a good way. i dont know if ive ever related this much to a song before

  • thank you!

  • there were really good scenes in here that werent included in the original release

the videos and song put together makes it feel like something out of magnolia

    thanks for the upload

  • Awesome ty :))))

  • What film is this?

  • @itsARawr "punch drunk love" - check paul thomas anderson

  • I wish more movies were like this, where the characters aren't perfect and have complicated problems.

  • I love this, very touching...

  • amaaaaaaazing!!!!!!!

  • why would ten different people not like this

  • my life

  • I will do...

  • THX!

  • popnutty. don't speak what you don't know. its a choice. jon brion chooses to stay where he is...he works with numerous artists on their albums..because he is a producer...all those people he is "cashing in on" are friends..that he chooses to help.

make the effort to learn before you knock someone. he plays at a club in LA

every saturday. look it up. first and foremost jon brion is an artist. but on paper he's a producer.

  • does anyone know where to get the song back and forth by jon brion??

  • What movie is this?

  • @Kaytekat88 Punch Drunk Love

  • I absolutely love this film. Helped me tremendously in the past. I was a lot like Barry.

  • I've just placed an order for Jon's solo album Meaningless... and for the album he made with Jellyfish. My love for his music started with the song you are listening to now! Enjoy.

  • Sandler surprised me in this move. I always liked him as a comedic actor but I absolutely loved him in this flick. one of my fave movies. Thanks!

  • Thanks for posting this awesome video.

  • OH MY GOD!!! ive been looking for this song for ages... THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU<3

  • THANK YOU! ..... NOW!!!^^

  • AH!!! Thank you for posting this! <3

  • Love this movie. Love this song.

  • what movie is this?

  • @thisisdeadboy stepbrothers :L

  • he's so good at matching his music with the mood of the movie. I love his music. Especially for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Great movies, eternally beautiful music.

  • Good music this Jon Brion :)

  • Great song and movie ;) Fits the mood of the movie so well.

  • wow, original footage not included in the original movie

i will not thank you later. i will thank you now

    thank you

  • this song was in the

    I HEART HUCKBEES film

    great movie!, and song!

  • @8Zeitgeist

Wrong. This song is from PUNCH-DRUNK LOVE. All the footage in this video is from it. Although I can see how that would be confusing because Jon Brion wrote the music for I HEART HUCKABEES too. His style is very unique. Incidentally, he also did the music for ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND. He's brilliant.

  • @BeSheGoo Very unique..id compare him to elliott smith though..fitting since jon brion sings on elliots song "happiness"...definitely up there with my favorite composers

  • Agreed.

  • I love this. PT Anderson is my all-time favorite director.

  • Jon Brion is a genius. If you like this, you should check out "Synecdoche, New York." Not only is it an amazing movie, but it also has the best original score I've ever heard.

  • what this is movie? ...

  • its Punch-Drunk Love with adam sandler, the score is by jon brion

  • Thk´sman

  • this tune makes me think of someone

  • You should tell them.

  • good movie. which was the last song?

  • i love jon brion! saw him at largo last month... so cool

  • the film, don't know why, but made me feel very nervous. however the idea of it is nice and simple.

  • @runaway2812 I agree. it made you feel like Barry pretty much the entire time, and I loved it.

  • "I can't believe no one posted this awesome song and video. You can thank me later. :) "

    Thanks!

  • @CrashLanden This song is beautiful.. the lyrics are really moving.

  • is this the video of the song or a movie? if it's a movie, how is it called :|

  • @runaway2812 The film is "Punch-drunk Love" and is fantastic. This song is "Here We Go".

  • he played this song for an encore last weekend! it was great

  • Really crazy writing, his entire walk up there and the song symbolize a man's journey to find someone to love him for who he really is. Along the way, he takes wrong moves, goes to the wrong doors, moves hesitantly, tries to impress, but poorly unbeknown to him (over the top blue suit). Moon landing on TV is pretty obvious...PTA and Brion are geniuses.

  • anyone know where i can get a hold of the chords for this song? they aren't anywhere on the internet

  • The song "Back and Forth" is a full song. I've requested it at the Largo and he's played it before, it's beautiful. I go there just about every Friday to see him play.

  • Thank You.

    :)

  • thanks for sharing!

  • here we go here go here go here go here we go here we go here go here we go here we go here we go that encapesulates the entire film

  • awesome track...keep posting

  • jon brion .... me encanta tu voz. .....

Feeling .. that someone really gets you

Well it's something that noone should

    object to

It could happen today so I suggest you

Skip your habbit of laying low

It's the end of the things you know

Here we go ........... tan tan tan ta tan ........... eres un niño jugando con tus instrumentos .... = ) = ) aaaaa que hermoso tu voz... tu voz...... tu voz............. aaaaaaaaaaaaa , ..............

  • i really need a copy of "back and forth" from the movie "step brothers". someone message me if you have it.

  • read my previous reply. many have searched VERY DILIGENTLY for it. NO one has a copy. No one. Guaranteed. Period. People like me and cupcake012 have scoured 30 pages of Google results for every different combination of keywords, Limewire, Soulseek, Bearshare, iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody, BitTorrent, Jon Brion-esque related forums...everything. Jon Brion SAT on this recording. It will most likely never be released. Probably because Director Adam McKay is partially credited and he is a douchebag. =[

  • I also have a strong feeling this song is only as long as it is featured in Step Brothers, as in under 2 minutes. This may be why it was never released separately, but may have been if they had released an OST or more likely the film score, very unlikely for a comedy. Remember the score for the film is all Jon Brion, it's not unlike him to throw a little pop thing in there just to feature his amazing talent. He's like that, writing quasi score/soundtrack material unfortunately you never know.

  • i know his style. i own the "i heart huckabees" soundtrack. its a damn shame though.

  • Awsome song thank you.

Btw does anyone know where I can, at the very least, listen to back and forth?

I cavity searched the internet like three times with now luck!

  • I tried earlier this year too and again this week but it's always the same. He really sat on it. Not even an instrumental or an in-house leak. I think at this point you have two options: 1) send a message through his MySpace and hope the admin gets it to him and we find out why it's not available or how it could become available. And/or 2) go to Largo at the Coronet in LA on almost any Friday around 9:30p and hope to catch him before or after the show and harass him for it. I <3 that song too!

  • can i thank you now

  • I thank you now for posting this.

  • i dont wan't to thank you later, i want to thank you now. so thank you theoddboby!

  • wow........found me another gem. gaining more appreciation for jon brion's music with every song i stumble apon. *sigh*

  • "you've gotta know that there's more to this world than what you have seen, cuz we all have a limited view of what it can be."

Love that line!!! so ture, and yet so sad. :(

  • true, this movie...

  • this reminds me a lot of Elliot Smith.

  • they worked together

  • probably cause Jon Brion was elliotts producer towards the end of smiths life.

  • I didn't realise that was Adam Sandler until he said something to the woman at the desk. That happened with Robert Downey Jr too, couldn't see his face but reconised his voice.

  • PTA's long takes with Brion's music makes me wish this movie could somehow be longer, but i have a feeling it was a good choice leaving this out to enjoy as an extra scene.

  • was this a deleted scene? I never saw this in the movie

  • It was featured as a short film on the second disc of the DVD release as a bonus.

  • this scene was made for the video clip

  • I can't believe people gave you a -6 for that comment. It was clearly a joke that I found hilarious (PTA used almost all Aimee Mann in Magnolia for those who are too stupid to get it).

  • PDL is amazing. Brion is amazing. Sandler is amazing ... and most of all, PT Anderson is amazing. :)

  • Thank you TheOddbody.

This is an amazing video and song.

    Thank you.

  • I'm an avid jon brion fan and I would suggest checking out his album Meaningless.

  • Can you post back and forth by John Brion

  • There is no video for it, not saying someone can't make one. The song alone is hard to find.

  • yeah i understand, i heard it in step brothers and i've looked all over the internet and can't find it.

  • @TheOddbody It SUPER hard to find.

  • @nintendofreak1230 Hell, I can't find the mp3!

  • beautiful song and video. thank you. :)

  • I primarily speak of his orchestral-string arrangements, creativity, and Producing skills as they may appeal to film score seekers. His vocal work alone outdoes Brion by far and beyond! Everything else is... well you get the picture.

  • Roger could eeaasily do film scores if he just chose to do so, but he spent most of his career behind the scenes and have decided to be a bit modest in lack of a better word. My bad on coming down on Brion too hard, he has made his own niche in film scores and koodos for that but I stick to everything else that I've said. Roger's songs on all solo albums, "Till We Meet Again", "Sleep Children" What You Don't Know About The Girl" are basically "score" potential, goosebumps galore! Beautiful!

  • Inspector Gadget anyone?! This is pretty obvious. Aside from Jon Brion, Jellyfish made a living out of "who can spot the influence" approach to songwriting. Their songs were so different from one another like show tunes/score type music, jazz, psychodelic-bubblegum, pop they were notorious for it. Andy Sturmer of Jellyfish has always sited Henry Mancini as an influence and Roger J. Manning Jr. contributed to The Pink Panther Theme released in 2004. Check out Roger's credits on his website.

  • I'm not trying to come off as a Jon Brion hater I just think that he's trying to "cash in" on someone else's ideas. Maybe that's my problem. I mean the man has been around a wealth of talent from Jellyfish, Jason Falkner to Glen Phillips, to name a few. It could be about the convenient deliberations of putting together The Grays w/ Jason Falkner a number of years ago. Again this is all just my prejudgement of the guy and, like my previous comment, that can show otherwise that'd be great!

  • I agree that he is heavily influenced, but you have to go back farther than the Jellyfish. He has admitted that the Beatles influence is quote "Inescapable for me" Jason Falkner is a great songwriter, and the Grays were ahead of there time as far as ability. It is kind of sad to say he has a big head though. He comes from a gifted musical family, if anything he has balls, for dropping out of school to pursue music. Sometimes his tonality is lacking, but his lyrics are remarkable.

  • Thanks for replying TheOddbody and I'm aware of his absolute Beatles love affair to the nth degree but my issue is that there is this striking similarity in production and playing wise with him and Roger Manning of Jellyfish. He doesn't have Manning's dynamic and stunning vocal range and his voice isn't as clean as his but he plays a jazzy piano and baroque/ orchestral arrangements SOMEWHAT similarly but without the circus! Coincidence? Maybe. What was his approach to music before Jellyfish?

  • I don't think he's trying to cash in but I think he's influenced by past great songwriters. I love this song. Very beautiful.

  • Ok?...but this is the second vague response concerning his influences that I've gotten. Earlier it was.. "I agree that he is heavily INFLUENCED" and now it's "I think he's influenced by "past great songwriters"? Somehow I'm being bated here. Just kidding-kind of... knobody here wants to agree with me at least directly. I'm going to assume that these GREAT PAST SONGWRITERS and being "heavily influenced" are in part JELLYFISH(Jason Falkner/Roger Manning), Beatles, and I'm sure others, thankx!!

  • The man has many, many, many influences obviously. I have seen him mention them in numerous interviews. As far as the Falkner/ Manning similarities, it has more to do with the fact that they have all are influenced by a lot of the same artists and play the same styles of music. Roger Manning met Falkner by finding an ad of his in a newspaper which listed many bands as his influences which Manning also liked.

  • Falkner said somewhere in an interview that he felt he had a lot in common musically with his bandmates in Jellyfish and The Grays, but not much else and they didn't really get along otherwise. Each member of the Grays basically did their own thing without much input from the other members. Brion wrote his songs, Judge wrote his songs, and Falkner wrote his. Having similar influences and styles, the songs somewhat fit together on their album.

  • Sure Brion was influenced by working with Manning on Spilt Milk and Falkner on Ro Sham Bo, but they are all contemporaries of each other. I have downloaded many of Brion's demos which are dated in the late eighties and early nineties, some of which would be used in his film scores 10+ years later. I think the more important connection between them though is not so much how they influence each other, but how their music contains more of the same common influences.

  • Funny, I was just listening to his "Drunk Punch Love"? and coming over here to make a comment(I think that's the name), anyway there's a song on there that sounds exactly like this one, maybe an instrumental version. He seems to have carved out a niche' for himself hasn't he- like a fish outta water, composer/arranger type who wants to be out of the ordinary and cool, a big head who craves the attention. I'm not a big fan of this guys voice and never have been, a highly skilled wannabe IMO.

  • This song is from "Punch Drunk Love"

  • @popnutty Who does he wannabe? Anyone who could call Jon Brion a "wannabe" has never seen him perform at Largo in LA. This guy is literally the most talented person I have ever had the honor to witness. Anyone I meet that hasn't been, I always offer them a money-back guarantee on being blown away by his show. That guarantee has yet to cost me any money. If you're ever in the area, you should check it out.

  • @bballtim one question, you seem like you could know this. this is the first jon brion song i've heard and i listen to a lot of Elliott Smith, so this song seems like it is addressed at elliott. Do you know something about that? Maybe every JB song deals with a familiar topic to this and i am just over-interpreting.

  • @JAYKAYAY91 I don't think you're overinterpreting. Jon Brion was a key player in, and producer of, Elliot Smith's figure 8 album (One of my favorites). It's entirely possible he could've been the inspiration for this song, but keep in mind, JB is the type of guy who can write a song every day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and all of them will be fantastic. Either way, keep listening; all his stuff is killer...

  • @rockpirate thank you for the response, but i think you got the part wrong about him producing figure 8. i think they did some stuff for the basement album but then jb confronted elliott about his drug abuse and elliott started the album from scratch without jb. anyway, thanks for your comment and i will definitely listen to more of his songs.

  • is there a instrumental version of this song?

  • Check out "Dragonfly" and "Drive Thru Girl" by Roger Manning. Interesting similarities in putting together the video. If someone can prove to me that Jon Brion was into "scoring" before his stint with Jellyfish then I will be a good boy, but 'till then he was most likely(like all Jellyfish fans) inspired by them, including Jason Falkner. I believe Jellyfish's first score was "Ignorance Is Bliss" before Jon came around..92'? Jellyfish's approach to song writing and production is undeniable!

  • Ignorance is bliss is not a score, it is a single track from a Nintendo album. Jellyfish never did a "score" (unfortunately). In fact, Brion has done plenty of complete scores whereas Roger Manning has merely contributed to relatively few, and he started this much later. Sturmer wrote some catchy cartton theme songs, also much later and not all that many. Falkner doesn't do scores.

  • The Manning songs that you mentioned came from his first 2 solo releases which were released within the last few years whereas punch drunk love came out in 2002. Brion released his first solo album in 1999 I believe and has been doing scores since '96.

  • I agree with you, Manning hasn't done any film scores(much less for long periods of time) like Jon has, I will take your word on that but he has come damn close. Since he practically writes naturally in this mode-songs are at least 5-9min. long and stacked beyond belief with inventive and melodic riches. You're right they have a musical kinship that is inseperable at times, each one unique! Roger's(alias as Malibu) Dance/Electronica album and Logan's Sanuctuary r good examples of what I mean.

  • John Brion's score in 'Stepbrothers' was brilliant, a full display of the man's creativity.

  • what is that song in the end of this????????

  • hhahaha i know. i had to try it tho!

  • it dosnt work ohh men not again

  • He sounds the same as he did when he was in The Grays when he he did "Nothing Between Us". The orchestration and production of it is likened to Spilt Milk.. Jellyfish was well known for this type of production well before few others have tried themselves. Example "Ignorance Is Bliss", "Brighter Day", "Russian Hill", heck all of Spilt Milk and pieces of Bellybutton. What's the big deal? Roger Manning of Jellyfish wrote and arranged tons on Spilt Milk than some think- He taught him well.

  • THANK YOU LATER

  • merci, amazing song, j'avais oublié...

  • so good, thanks!

  • thank you =)

  • Thank you for posting this gem! God. Shit. Holy shit. Does anyone know what song plays at the tail-end of this song, it sounds like Patsy Cline, a very cool little transition. Jon Brion is my new BFF.

  • is this a movie? what movie is it?

  • punch drunk love, waesome movie
