Hi. I've been following your tutorial and I've managed to finish my model (Tyranid Harpy conversion). I want to base spray the model but I'm worried about spraying paint over the magnets. Will they lose their grip at all if they get paint over them or not? Great tutorial :D

The plan for my Nids i mentioned before. I will be selling most everything and then buying new boxes to magnetize. As i bought the army off someone else then even if i sell everything at half price ill make double what i paid for them in profit to rebuild my army. He sold them to me cheep $250 for a FW flyrent, 1 regular tyrant, 4 carnifex, 26 warriors, 40 geanstalers, 80 H-gaunts, 120 T-gaunts, and a few random metal models like metal warriors and old walking zopes. Of course im keeping some.

@TheKillmeifucan You can magnetize any model you want as long as the magnet fits in the spot you are trying to put it. Smaller magnets have a weaker pull than larger ones but on smaller models you don't need as must pulling power unless they just have some kind of crazy huge weapon made out of metal bits. If you used plastic glue and are willing to pull things appart then it is not too late to rebuild them and magnetize them. since i bought my Nids off some one else i can't because of super glue

SO i am a very sad panda because i just started playing nids in JAN and i was recomended to magnetize my nids but guess what I DID NOT and i have used many of the extra bits for conversions on other nids already so now i have to decide if i want to get more and mag the new ones or rip the ones i have appart and ruin their perfect paint and get any sprues i would need for the extra items suggestions?

I took a extra carapace i got from a friend that didnt want it and i green stuff the heck out of it and put a magnet on the back of my carnifex and the green stuffed carapace so i can convert it into a terigon when i need to, so my cranifex it magnetize like this and magnetize to convert into a tervigon too :D

@mrminimansam You can magnetize anything, any unit. Just take a quick measure of the thickness of the arm or whatever on the unit you want to magnetize. Won't do to have a magnet wider than the thickness of the arm.

@pkmlover96 I don't know ye olde measuring system (we're in 2010 here in europe ;p) I got 3mm by 1mm magnets - but I'm gonna go up to 4mm on future ones. I also don't find greenstuff necessary for this at all, unless the driller got MS. Drilling alone does the job (Greenstuff is still awesome though). =)

@onewingedangel2 It doesn't matter really much, it might make it a bit weaker if it alredy is a weak magnet, buf if it is too weak you can just scrape the paint off the magnet after it has dried

No, even if it would hold ball magnets are still polarised in one direction so would only rotate in the same way a disc magnet would

@till357951 Yes you can use ball magnets but only do so on the arm pieces so they form the ball and the socket should be left as a flat magnet to form the socket. Done this a few times dont use ball magnets for both ends :)

alternatively and what i'd recommend instead of using two magnets - one on the limb and one on the body, use one magnet on the body and use a piece of steel in the limb...i've used tiny screws, i usually used flat headed ones, but in these areas a round head screw might be better, especially if you can get round heads the same diameter as the nubbly limb root that you would normally glue.

1: you take a small drimal tool you can get one for 16.00 dollars at any homedepo

2: take the hive tyrant out of the box and start with the body drill a hole into the body but not to big just as you can see it

3: take green stuff how much a small bouncey ball size should do put the gs in the body push it in a orb of green stuff should be in your sight then super glue the magnets in

narutosakura144, Blue Tac is a kind of sticky putty that you can get at pretty much any arts and craft or stationary store. Most people use it to put up posters and anchor things without using permanent adhesive.

I use Blue tac to attach my adrenal glands to the carapace since it's pretty hard to magnetize them nicely.

Just for your info, the Assault on Black Reach dreadnought only comes with a Multimelta and close combat weapon. There are no other arm variants in that box.
