Classical Shiatsu practice pre-dates modern Shiatsu practice (Namikoshi, Westernized Shiatsu, formalized in the first half of the 1900s), is derived from Anma, and is hundreds of years old. Zen Buddhist psychology is hundreds of years old. Physiology is modern. Classical Chinese medicine pre-dates Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM, post-Communist revolution), and is thousands of years old. So, modern and ancient. Everything evolves.
Actually, the form of Shiatsu that I practice is Zen (Keiraku, Meridian, Masunaga) Shiatsu. Masunaga Sensei formalized the style in the early 1970s. But, it is founded from classical Shiatsu practice, Zen Buddhist psychology, physiology, and classical Chinese medicine.
But, there's only so much you put into a few minute television presentation!
