They might start like that, but they certainly all got taught something by someone. Wether it was another artist or their producer when they were recording. The difference between good rapper and and coming up rapper is that one hasn't had their potential developed.
I've been writing tracks since I was 9 years old and all I can say is though this dude is right in the sense of picking a topic according to a beat, If you don't know how to do that then you shouldn't rap. What makes a good rapper is some1 who, without knowing, allows the beat to pick the topic for them. For example, when I hear a depressing beat, I instantly begin freestyling shit in my head. Based on the subject matter of those freestyles, I start writing.

You can definately see how the beat influenced the lyrics in both tracks, i.e with the PFC O'Conell beat having a military march sound almost. This is not an instrument. You need to create the sounds on a computer. You need your own studio too. Doing this can be hard. Iv'e wanted to be a rapper ever since I heard Jay-Z existed, and that is a long way a way. Rappers usuaully get paid more, but its more work. If you havn't wanted it tht much, or if rapping is a new passion, you should give up rapping and try for singing. Rapping is a craft that takes years to perfect. sometimes its good to change up the material and make it contrast, like a happy sounding beat with sad sounding material
you will see directors for movies use techniques like that, for example in some of the most violent/brutal movie scenes you will hear smooth/calm/happy music playing in the background
i despise emotional rap, no matter who its by, it's so boring and uninteresting. In my opinion hip hop should pump you up and make u wanna bob your head, not sit there and feel sad....Who would want to do that?
Hip hop should be, at its core, about lyrics. The beat should just be there to keep the lyrics in time. The most powerful songs are the ones that evoke emotions in you, the ones that you keep thinking bout long after they're finished. Telling deep stories through poetry is a skill few rappers possess. Listen to the lyrics of You Never Know or Dance with the Devil by Immortal Technique, One Life by The Last Emperor, and Stan or Kim by Eminem and tell me they don't impress you.

hmm, im not a rapper, but when I'm going to write some music with words, I usually write the words first and base the music around the contours of the language. Its really a beautiful thing, finding music in the actual words. The other way around usually just sounds like you slapped something on to me.

It was poetry. If you're culturally in the same calamity perhaps (such as Eminem) but definitely not if you're somebody like Mac Miller. Heck, not even if you're somebody like Soulja Boy.

You should check me out. Google Johnny Hip Hop. I'm trying to build a fanbase but I'm not getting embraced by alot of people who only like club music. I'm always being told to dumb down but I'd rather not. At this point rap is for the talented. End of story.

you will see directors for movies use techniques like that, for example in some of the most violent/brutal movie scenes you will hear smooth/calm/happy music playing in the background

Hip hop should be, at its core, about lyrics. The beat should just be there to keep the lyrics in time. The most powerful songs are the ones that evoke emotions in you, the ones that you keep thinking bout long after they're finished. Telling deep stories through poetry is a skill few rappers possess. Listen to the lyrics of You Never Know or Dance with the Devil by Immortal Technique, One Life by The Last Emperor, and Stan or Kim by Eminem and tell me they don't impress you.

This is what's wrong with hip-hop music. People who are afraid to think OUTSIDE the box. There is no recipe for what beat goes with what subject. If you use an up tempohappy beat and rap about something sad, thats the challenge and whoever can pull it off is the man.

hmm, im not a rapper, but when I'm going to write some music with words, I usually write the words first and base the music around the contours of the language. Its really a beautiful thing, finding music in the actual words. The other way around usually just sounds like you slapped something on to me.
