I've got a CD I bought when my nephew James was a baby. It's called Lullabies of Broadway, the singer is Mimi Bessette. She sings this slowly instead of saying the hip hurray and ballyhoo, she sings la la la la la la la la , I would sing this to him and he fell asleep everytime.
Yep i thought so, i saw a commercial on tv recently for her greatest hits album that just came out and i thought this song sounded so familiar. Now i know i heard it during the awesome video game "Bioshock 2"! It plays on one of the juke boxes in the back ground while you're fighting bad guys, man i love that game!! Cool song too!
I'm a big fan of Doris Day's but I must point out that the blonde with her arms thrown open in welcome at the beginning of the video is the equally great June Christy.
Doris Day, an icon of beauty, of voice, of acting talent, of humanity itself. You are my personal hero... moreso than all the rest. I've always wanted to know you. As a person. I can tell, not from all those silly sensational stories many write, but from the more everyday type things that every once in awhile a writer is sensitve enough to delve into and share the true heart of "Doris Day" with the rest of us.
But I digress (majorly). Here I am just hoping that maybe somehow she may read what I write here, and surely though she's heard these things thousands of times, I believe that sometimes we see or hear something at just the right time. When we really need it most. This song, like so many others lifts me out of myself, Doris--Ms. Day.
Ahhhh....what an experience and you are so kind to always lie me gently back down within myself by the end of the song, like tucking a child into bed. Safe and secure. And you do it every time, no matter what song you sing.
"May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord lift his face to shine upon you and give you peace" as you so often have given me. Best to You Always, Tammy Harris
A lovely clip from a great singer. Thanks for posting this!
