  • it is wade hemsworth not stan rogers

  • My arms still have scars from planting trees 3 years ago. Swollen infected mess, I cannot imagine what it would be like working in those woods before DEET. Wade Hemsworth is a bad ass.

  • @cptfancypants Hell, even with DEET and thick woolen socks, they got my ankles but good in an hour of blueberry picking. I've dealt with the "swollen infected mess" before, and now pack antihistamines when I go north. They relieve the swelling and itching, preventing the infection, and allow you to sleep at night, too - and get bitten more!

  • Sorry ... I meant on the Log Drivers Waltz he sings in the background

  • Defintely Wade. I grew up with his music as he was my uncle. In the NFB version he sings in the background. He would have been around 80 at that time

  • This is Wade Hemsworth singing his own song with the McGarrigle Sisters on Harmony vocals. It's the version from Chris Hinton's NFB film.

  • That certainly isn`t Stan Rogers.

  • born and raised in northern Ontario, you have to have a great love for the outdoors, great tolleration for the cold and greeat endurance for those hungry little beast called black flies.. but I would not change a thing.

  • i just love this song ^^

  • Swear to God, he looks exactly like my uncle.

  • This is exactly what it is like in Temagami, Ontario right now - early June 2009.

  • How can they have banned this? Where else can we see these pieces? I grew up with these and no longer living in Canada I miss them. Freedom to the artists :)

  • I was thinking the exact same thing tiger! I used to love these as a kid! It's silly

  • Black flies suck! (your blood)

  • Black flies are like mosquitoes: they drink your blood but when they bite you again, they're exactly like mosquitoes but without West Nile virus, they have a disease called river blindness which you get when they bite you. When they bite you they inject a small parasite into your bloodstream which gives you river blindness.

    So no...Windex wont kill them.

  • On the recording I have you can hear the sound of one of those wooden puppets that dance on a springing paddle. It's right near the end during the little step dance shuffle.

  • Wow i remember singing this in like grade 1

  • I love this stuff 'cause I'm from North Ontar-i-o :-p. Alberta really sux...lol

  • Yeah,

    Alberta is to conservative

I like the story of this song, It's canadian History.

  • Generalize and stereotype much?

    awesome song though, a classic

  • Alberta does suck.

    you bourgeois pricks!

other countries with fucking tons of oil pay almost nothing for gas.

Venezuela pays the equivalent of 12 cents a liter and Saudi Arabia? 16 cents.

not to mention you gave us harper.

    PHAIL

  • lol k, Harper is from Ontario he just pretends he's from Alberta. I don't know where the oil/gas thing fits into the equation but Alberta doesn't pay much less than the rest of the country, a few cents if that IIRC.

  • i know alberta doesnt pay much less for gas, the thing is, all the gas and oil is in private hands, very very little of the money made by selling the gas, makes it to the citizens out side of alberta, but then you have places like russia and venezuela where the entire country is bankrolled by the oil, here, our corporations are bankrolled by the oil.

Venezuela has massive social programs for the poor, and it is all payed for by oil profits. if we wanted to, canada could have no poverty. y

  • Sure, but that would require complete rewriting of the constitution. No matter how many social programs Venezuela has, it doesn't necessarily mean they have a higher standard of living as Canada does. Social programs don't automatically equate to being the best thing for the country or its people, some are necessary but most are useless and only apply to a very small section of the population but eat up tons of public money too.

  • I love my Province, thanks. Also you can thank the federal government for gas prices.

  • classic.

  • type blackfly here on youtube you'll find the cartoon i used to see it on cbc when i was young all the time

  • Check out

    Log Drivers Waltz

  • Fuck yeah!!!

  • indeed!

  • The black fly is the bane of the north woods and one of the true hells on earth. If you could eradicate the black fly, all the bears would come up to you to personally shake your hand and Big Foot wouldn't be so reclusive and grouchy. The Canadian Tourist Board would like to sweep this one under the rug.

  • @Fretkillr DEEP WOODS.

  • @Fretkillr

    thts funny i totally agree

  • @Fretkillr not just the north little bastards are all over maine too

  • i remember the cartoon that was on super channel i had the bunny ears antenna got me 4 sometimes 5 channels XD haha old school, i tried looking for the cartoon but noo, the cartoon was funny tho...

  • this song reminds me of my math teacher...Mr. Theriult...when it was a calm day where everyone was doin their work..he'll get the guitar and play us the song...over and over again....lol

  • fanzzzle I wondered the same. I know I've seen it here and it's no longer available. If anyone has any info, I'd appreciate it too.

  • It got taken down because of a copyright claim

  • where is the one with the sweet animation from the film boards of canada? cant find it anywhere

  • It was on YT once but was removed. A great piece of work!

  • They. Drive. us. MAD. And EAT us ALIVE

  • I moved from Ontario about a year ago and the bugs is one thing I do not miss. In the north it really is all Black Flies in the days and mosquitoes in the nights. BLAH!!!

  • Haha awesome I luv this song! I twas stuck up in scotland with a bunch of cansdians from toronto area and NONE of them ever heard of this song bunch of numpties! I knew it and I from Vancouver, luv that song...

  • this is stan rogers cuz i hav this song on my ipod (same version) and its sung by stan rogers. but like pavelow235 if you can prove me wrong, then do so

  • lmao im from blind river i wonder who blind river joe was.

  • god its true! i was just there this weekend. it was terrible

  • I have been singing this to myself a lot here in Muskoka recently...

  • Where can I watch the short film of this on the internet? does anyone know?

  • its Wade Hemsworth who is singing here

  • one great Canadian folk song, thank you

  • That's not Stan Rogers. Get his name off the video.

  • I think its Stan Rogers singing and Wade Hemsworth is pictured, but if you can prove me wrong, do so.

  • Wade Hemsworth is singing this version.

You can find the track on CBC radio 3 website if you do a search for him there.

If you're still not sure you should change the title. Thanks for posting the song up.

  • @pavelow235 OKay...it's not Stan Rogers....there, I proved you wrong!

  • @pavelow235 Definitely NOT Stan Rogers. I think it IS Hemsworth.

  • @pavelow235 thats definatley wade..he has a distinctive voice

  • @pavelow235

This is definitely NOT Stan singing. I have a recording of Stan Rogers singing this song, and his voice sounds very different.

  • Agreed -- that is without a doubt NOT Stan Rogers; the singer's voice isn't nearly deep enough, and has an accent that Stan Rogers didn't. It's been recorded by the writer himself, Omar Blondahl, the Travellers, and others, but never by Stan Rogers. You'll find an entry about it in the Encyclopedia of Music in Canada.

  • @diplomatizer it is him singing, but a low quality recording of the 'Black Fly' cartoon.

  • Damn black flies. A Canadian classic. Thanks for the post pave.
