Hope you got a chance to explore more of Pat Metheney's music. It really transfers well to big band arrangements. You are certainly wonderful! As I proposed to your sister, I' support your careers and if there's anything my company can do for you girls, please don't hesitate to ask.
Zach is a great player. He actually played for the Grammy's this year! He was also offered a full scholarship to Berklee College of Music. We will all be hearing more of his playing in the future!
if def. is. you guys play well. that trumpet soloist was really good. i've got the solos in my band. hope i can play them well. and that lead trumpet, those high Ds were great.
This makes me jealous. I wish that my high school had a serious music program, and that I could have been exposed to playing in a serious and demanding jazz band at that age.
Great to see a group like this treating the music seriously (while still having fun obviously), and practicing to get to this stage. Not to mention the band director appropriately let the rhythm section lead, just how it's supposed to be done.
Kudos to the band and to the director. He has obviously dedicated himself to the band's excellence. Metheny is usually challenging anyway, but to play the tune without a lot of rehearsal shows confidence and the band embodies (in my opinion) what jazz is: On the edge improvisation (taking chances) with the intensity of being in the moment! Great work Mikayla and all in the band.
great chart, good job ! warning though this chart is really tough for trumpets since the voicings up there are high and tight and the 3/4 sections are too busy thus hard to keep tight!
@bdbinz
Sorry. It's been almost three years since that video was recorded.
Can't answer that.

all good soloists...too bad they were forced to play at this ridiculously fast tempo

drum fill at the end wasn't very exciting but not bad otherwise for only playing it a few days
