@MrSHIZZLE4u ....I don't live in AK. I know they have a sewer system in Anchorage. I think there are some areas that don't. One thing for sure, the water goin thru the tap is wonderful. It was like cold spring water.
That's a dream road trip to one day visit Alaska, The Last Frontier, but not just to Anchorage, further up to Fairbanks and then all the way north to the end of the last road possible before Arctic Circle takes over. Hwy 11 (Dalton Hwy) all the way to Deadhorse, can you do it by car? Is that road fully paved?
About Anchorage, your video: very clean city, a nice mixture of old and new architecture, no different than any other traditional american city.
@401RoadWarrior ....on my trip to AK, the farthest north we went was Talkeetna & the farthest south was Seward. My dream is a cruise up the inside passage & then also like you were wanting, plus over to Nome. The Dalton Hwy is not paved & it is notorious. The truckers drive it all the time, taking loads up to the north slope & a few other small communities along the way. When you travel that road, you have to take spare belts, tires, etc. There is a great many miles between gas stations.
@401RoadWarrior ....I did have more footage of our drives around Ak: Whittier, palmer, wasilla, talkeetna, seward, but they were removed by YT becoz of the music. One day I plan to redo them. Cheers, Sara
@northstar68 TYVM for all the info, Sara. I can teach you all about the YT music, that issue with the freakin' copyright, feel free to ask me when you decide so. If I ever get to be in Anchorage, by personal car only, God knows when (so far away from Toronto AND I hate flying), then by my car to Fairbanks, I guess paved roads up to Fairbanks, but then rent a 4x4 with damn good large strong tires and drive it up to the very end of the only road going all the way to... Arctic Circle, too crazy?
@401RoadWarrior ....I don't consider it crazy as long as you do your research & are prepared w/back-up. You can look up online how to prep for driving the Dalton. If you were to just go on a wim w/no knowledge, then I'd say you were crazy. I would love nothing more than to go see Prudhoe Bay. There's not alot there, but you're at the top of the world & I think it's cool. It is amazing how culturally diverse Alaska is N,S,E & W. Just like the lower 48.
i was there last may 2009, it was a great experience. we were walking in downtown at 10:00 pm and the sun is still up. most of the roads in downtown are oneway and it's a little confusing so try not to miss your turn
Summer of 09' was unbelievably amaaazing up in Anchorage. almost unheard of to me. Me and my sister went hiking on flat-top one day and it was around the 80's (degrees)! awesome make-up weather for the crappy 08' we had previously. i hope this summer 2010 would be a lot like 09'.
@jaywolflover Hospital? That's the 5th Avenue Mall and the bridge to the parking lot. The black-glassed building is a furniture store. The hospitals are several miles away and you'd have to at least turn left before the mall to get there.
@woo2fly21 Whitehorse is an awesome little place, but for someone who has lived in the big city their whole lives, there isn't much for them to do. Many who go to Whitehorse say you do all there is to do in 3 days! But for me, I live in a very small place (40 people) so I love it up there, and love to live in the north. I find it has everything you need, and it laid out alright as well. In fact, flying out of there in 3 days, can't wait!
@woo2fly21 also, no comparison between Anchorage and Whitehorse, they are two completely different places! In fact, Whitehorse's population is only 24,000, while Anchorage's is 374,000, so of course it's going to be more developed. But the Yukon's time is coming when the mines take off again!
Guhh this video is makin' me homesick! I'm coming back in a few weeks though, been away from Anchorage for a year... thanks for posting, nice choice of music too. ^^
Anchorage is a pretty big city for Alaska. I mean, it has a population of 279,243 which is 1/3 of the states population. And the city ranks 67 of the United States largest cities.
Have you visited both? They're very different! Helps to get a feel of each place. There were communities that I loved that I didn't think I would & some I thot I would like but wasn't impressed with :)
God I miss my hometown and more specifically spenard where I grew up,actually wisconsin and Northern lights blvd,(turnagain)I left to join the United states Army in 1986,only been back once, god how I miss my hometown
I like AK.I want to live in AK.

Hello, I have a question.
Do you guys in Anchorage get water from a city mains system or do you have to dig wells? Also do you have a public sewage system?
Thanks.

Downtown anchorage is constantly changing. 4 th ave used to be 4 lanes and for years was the only paved street in town.
