  • grind your kitty liter into a fine powder, it doesent matter if your fuel mix is dry or cooked just keep the mix from drawing mosture or it will cato tape the ends with masking tape to keep it dry, plus ive found any pvc tube over 1/2 inch tending to cato reason why is the extra burn time tends to melt the tube.!! line with card board then pack your fuel..! i catoed 9 engine's to prove this point,

  • hey instead of the cat litter, is there an alternative?(plz reply)

  • @hellkid94

Kitty litter is just a cheap way of getting ahold of Bentonite Clay. try crushing Fresh Step (recommended to me as being good for nozzles) into a very fine powder, it works surprisingly well, if that's not strong enough then you can order pure Bentonite clay from a variety of places including skylighter. I'm working on a better grade rocket nozzle mix described by someone on skylighter using bentonite clay, grog ceramic clay and paraffin wax.

  • @hellkid94 Burham's rock hard putty, its hard to work with but holds up realey well..! let dry for two days once dry put tape on the end to prevent mosture from softening the putty, happy rocketing

  • it may have messed up cuz the S made it to reactive

  • nice motor!

i always tell people they dont need a long stick to keep it stable.

you seem to already know that! its been a while since i made sugar motors,

whistle motors are more for me. but thanx for the upload. good vid.

  • He did designate the one pound in quotations, indicating that what he built is called a one pound rocket although it does not weigh one pound.

  • how dya make the flash head?

  • mines better

  • just interseted did u melt the mixture or just stuffed it

  • Consolidated (rammed) dry. Just a rough mix at that, the KNO3 and sulfur are pretty coarse.

  • Haha why do you have a plumber by your side ... LOOOL!

  • In case the toilet gets clogged.

haha. just kidding though, he lives near.

  • You can NEVER have enough P.V.C.!!! lol...

  • thats not 1lb. that size, about 120g.

  • That's not how the motors are rated.

"1 pound" refers to a 3/4" diameter rocket. In which a lead ball that has diameter of 3/4" weighs about 1 pound.

  • Your problem was that you were not using a Bic to light it ;)

  • lol thats not 1lb not even with the dowel id guess about 15grams of propellant. note* a pound is 454grams.

  • I see you know basic metrics, obviously nothing about rocket classification though.

1 pound refers to the diameter of the rocket. The mass of a 3/4" lead sphere (fits on top of rocket with tangents that align with the walls) is 1 pounds.

    453.59237

  • Ha ha ha U crazy americans. Think 1lb rocket weighs 1lb

  • Yeah were so crazy when we can't see clearly that weight is a measurement for diameter. I mean we must be stupid for not knowing that.

  • that looked like a .1 pound rocket...

  • hi i live in new york wer can i find kno3? except for internet

  • garden shops its in fertilizers

  • if you get grants stump remover you will need a coffee grinder though cuz it comes in little balls, the one from lowes come precrushed

  • No, it doesn't matter. You're going to have to make all of the reactants aqueous anyway so whatever form it is in will work. On a side note though...don't go and buy 15 bags of fertilizer or else the FBI might be asking if you're planning on becoming a farmer anytime soon.

  • i live in califorina can i find kno3 somewhere there??

  • You can find KNO3 everywhere, look harder please. To less of an ass, and possibly help you. If you want a bulk source of KNO3 (50 lb. bags) check at agricultural\hydroponics stores for bags that have a large yellow triangle with "5.1 Oxidizer" inside it. If you want 1-1.5 lb. cans, check at hardware stores. Spectracide, Grant's, Gordon's, and Hi-Yield Stump remover will work.

  • i posted a video response of the ones i build using the same dry mix and tube dimensions. Two things i did notice is that ur nozzle is much smaller compared to mine as well as your stick being "WAYYYY" smaller than the ones i am attaching my motors to.

  • nicely done,

Look also mine at my channel

  • i usually just make the rocket and buy the motors but ill try KNO3

  • how did you make it make a boom?

  • i make rockets that are similar in size but black powder fuelled. they have sticks close to 3 feet long usually.

  • please where can i get cheap salt peter potasium nitrat kno3 besides Ebay plz

  • put a little cardboard nosecone and a plastic bag parachute for easy recovery!

  • I've made a few one-time use recoverable rockets to test 555-timer parachute delay timers... They're pretty fun.

    Thanks for the comment!

  • again another nice vid, I normally use

nozzle propellant fp paper wad, hotglue, endcap, Mind you I use my special 1200 mesh AL so theres no need for confinement =P, I dont supose you remember the ID and length of the tube ? and if so the ID and length of the core?

  • Sorry for the long delay in replying... Thanks for all the comments!

The tube was 3/4" by 3.5" (obviously to small for a KNO3 propellant)... The core had to be at least 2", but that's still to small.

  • that was an end burner right? and also... u packed it right? not recrystalized or anything?

  • Dry mix core burner.... KNO3 is nearly always a core burner... Only once have I saw and end burner and it was 1" ID and it took about 30 seconds of burning before it even "took" off

  • noobish question time lol how heavy does the stick have to be compared to the rocket? lol i have always got theses super arcing rockets lol

  • How heavy does the stick have to be? hehe...

Well there's no ratio really, but your stick should be long and heavy enough so that when you hold your rocket behind the nozzle on the stick it's balanced or close to it...

  • rockets need to have atleast a 5:1 thrust : weight ratio to stay stable in flight. sqaure sticks have proven to be better. also if you have to pick between a long thin stick and a thick short stick go with the 1st itll prove better in flight. Hope that helps

  • it doesn't work

  • Copy it from img525 to png, paste that in the address bar, then delete all the spaces before and after each period

  • lol have no clue what all those terms mean but do you just use flash powder? is it like this

    [Clay___flash powder__Propellant_____clay]

  • Here's diagram I just drew

    img525 . imageshack . us/img525/5666/rocketsdiagramym5 . png

I don't know how to bypass that, so just remove spaces...

  • sweet how did you make it blow up at the end?

  • This is the rocket

    |_Nozzle_|_Propellant_|_Clay_|_FP_|_Paper End Cap_|

Nozzle = clay, propellant = kno3\sugar\s, 2nd clay is a clay plug with a hole drilled through it called a "passfire" when propellants done burning it shoots flame throw this hole into the Flash Powder which is confined by the passfire plug and a paper end plug making a report.

    Thanks :D

  • im surprised it was even abla to ignite with so much sugar an how did u get a fireman to be there wouldnt he turn u in?

  • I changed the mix after I messed it up... I could have easily fixed it by adding 24 grams of KNO3 and 2.6 grams of sulfur, but before thinking it out I just starting eyeballing it... So the mix wasn't quite right.

The fireman has been my neighbor forever and he knows I'm not some idiot who will vandalize things, so he has no reason to turn me in (other than it's illegal :)) Technically I don't think KNO3 rockets are illegal, but flash headers >160mg are...
