  • Such a beautifully melancholic and emotional song. It does seem that post rock has still some aces up its sleeves. This composition moved me deeply and it almost felt like mourning...

  • @sontalify I love post rock but this song really hasn't anything to do with that genre. if anything it's more influenced by classical and folk music (I can hear some Hadjidakis in it for example).

  • @theresawayout To be honest I was mostly thinking about Esmerine as a band that has honored the post rock genre, being a side project of GY!BE. You are right that the song doesn't fit under this umbrella and I also agree that there's a Hadjidakis aura somewhere in there. Regardless of terms and definitions, it remains an exceptional composition.

  • @sontalify I didn't know you were from Greece when I mentioned the Hadjidakis influence. what a coincidence :) (FWIW, I'm not Greek). as for this Last Waltz, it has to be one of the best songs of 2011. have you listened to the whole album and is there more tracks like this?

  • @theresawayout I have to admit shamefully that I didn't have the chance to listen to the whole album yet. Due to the lack of time, Youtube seems very convenient to seek for great tracks, especially when you check your friends' preferences and likes. Regarding the Hadjidakis coincidence, I'm really surprised that you are aware of him, even though he was one of the greatest Greek composers. If you have the chance, check the interpretation that Raining Pleasure made to his album "Reflections".

  • @sontalify Someone on a message board introduced him to me and since then he's become one of my favorite composers. I was also made aware of Raining Pleasure and their interpretation of that Hadjidakis/New York Rock & Roll Ensemble album. I'll have to check it out sometime soon.
