In the 80's, the Sunni resistance who started and were the true fighters that kicked Israel out of beirut and Sidon, they handed their weapons back as ordered by the government,. A long time ago in Lebanon (before Hizbullah and before Iran helped Hizbullah), my father used to tell me that we didn;t know many of our friends were Shia. When we go to Sunni mosques to pray, our shia brothers used to pray with us in the same mosque.

Context must be considered. Hezbollah uses schools and neighborhoods to fire at Israel from. Civillans are used as sheilds, instead of the other way around. Hezbollah provides the citizens with food, healthcare and education they wouldn't have access to otherwise, so they must cooperate. How can Israel target Hezbollah fighters if they "hide" among civillians?

I don't think Israel wants more land, except the West Bank. The keys to Israeli defence are Sinai, Golan Heights, Jordan river, and the Mediterranean. With the control of these 4 areas, Israel is an impenetrable fortress. So Lebannon front is just a political and symbolic stuggle for Israel, but Hez will be a hazard for all of Lebannon.
