Im afraid you're both incorrect. The Irish potato famine was caused when the potato harvest failed. Since most of the poor people lived mainly off potatoes this robbed them of their main food source. In a famine museum my parents brought me to many a year ago, there was a display of what people would have eaten then and it was litterally a bowl of potatoes, nothing else. Im not going to debate the other political factors but that is the main basic thing that started it.
The British made them build walls in Conemara to earn money/food .. the walls are still there (or were a few years ago anyway). You have to see to believe .. criss-cross, pointless, massively sad structures. I dont think this vid is quite in the same league as the plight. Small time vid.

Im afraid you're both incorrect. The Irish potato famine was caused when the potato harvest failed. Since most of the poor people lived mainly off potatoes this robbed them of their main food source. In a famine museum my parents brought me to many a year ago, there was a display of what people would have eaten then and it was litterally a bowl of potatoes, nothing else. Im not going to debate the other political factors but that is the main basic thing that started it.
