I believe the original discussion was restricted to the use of the bangla language. Nobody has gorgotten India's selfish reasons in helping Bangladesh becoming a nation. It's give and take, you did not want 2 Pakistans on either side of the border, we wanted to preserve our culture and language. Which brings me back to the original issue, the language of bangla. The only nation on the face of the earth, which led a revolution to save its language. Bangla is our language, aristocratic or not.

The Bengali spoken in West Bengal is the actual way Bengali should be spoken.The one spoken in Bangladesh is very crude and does not sound classy at all. West Bengal's Bengali sounds aristocratic where as Bangladeshi Bengali sounds like the labor class's language.
west bengal bangla sounds sweet to you; but we use them either in Robi thakur's dramas in tv, or to make fun of the ghotis; Bangladeshi bangla sounds way cooler, smarter and sexier to us. and btw, Bangla itself is a labor class language (& i am proud to say this) originated from Prakrito instead of Sangskrit (the reason some conservative Hindu scholars of Sen era declared the use of Bangla to be "a way to 8th Hell"!)
