This is the way they intended it to be, representing a different culture; youth that are upbeat and state their concerns clearly, rather than moping around in self pity and depression. I'm not saying Gary Jules version is bad, far from it. It simply takes a different approach to addressing the lyrics that some people prefer. But it's wrong to claim that Gary Jules way is the way it's supposed to be when he didn't write the song.

I think many people are overlooking the fact that Mad World was a DANCE SONG. The KEY behind the song is the Upbeat Synthetic Dance Rhythm constrasting with the Melancolic Vocals by Curt Smith. It was not originally supposed to be an acapella ballad. Sure that Gary guy sings great slow, but the original KEY of the song is lost. Curt Smith is singing this the way it originally was intended. Make Gary whats his name sing to the upbeat synthpop dance version and he won't be that great.

Nein, das ist definitiv das Original und meiner Ansicht nach auch die beste Version. Die Version von Gary Jules (und den restlichen "langssamen" covers) machen das Lied so depressiv, als wenn es um eine "traurige" oder "schlechte" und nicht um eine verrückte Welt ginge. Da finde ich dass diese Version mehr Tiefe hat.
