Vastly different from MC. If you like simple but fun games and love to be creative in building then Minecraft is for you, if you want more deep and complex gameplay with action adventure and lots of unique weapons and bosses and etc. then Terraria is for you. I play both and love both, don't make such a big deal out of it having similarities to MC, there's not a single game today that you can point out that doesn't have similarities to other games.

Okay, I am getting pretty tired of MC fanboys calling this game a 2D rip-off. For one, Minecraft has one, overpowered, impossible boss. Terraria has 4, with boosted versions of the first 3 after you beat the "final" boss. And these bosses can actually be BEATEN! Without cheats! Furthuremore, Terraria's gameplay has way more depth than Minecraft's. Terraria has about 4 bosses. Plus 3 harder reincarnations of some.

Minecraft's is impossible with no real reward.

Terraria's is just hard at times.

Honestly, overall, Terraria has MUCH more content.

Hmmm... There are pickaxes, so this is a "copy of Minecraft". First off, Minecraft is boring as fuck to play because all you do is build. This game has more potential to it, like adventuring and bosses. This gives you goals. Pickaxes? Come on, get the fuck out and learn the prospects and aspects of real life within that there exists tools such as pickaxes wich we use to mine, or used to mine with to acquire the material we know as coal, gems and ores.
