For KellyGreen5555 - I think Heath Ledger did not win for BBM and PSH did, was the oscar voters probably figured HL only being 25 had more of any opportunity to put in another amazing performance later in his career, vs PSH who in the past had some good performances and it was kind of like give him one now, 'cause being older, he was running out of time. His performance in Doubt wasn't anything memorable (like the Joker, which will forever be unforgettable and definitely memorable!!)
Well worded...Here is another take on why Heath lost the Best Actor Oscar to PSH in Capote: The LA Times ran a piece not too long ago stating that Philip plays the Hollywood game & Ledger wanted no part of it...also the fact that Ang Lee won Best Director, yet BM lost out for Best Picture may have been a sign that the Academy had issues w/ the subject matter.
I still marvel that "Crash" (!!) won Best Picture instead. Jack Nicholson announced it like he couldn't believe it either! lol
"Issues with the subject matter" is putting it mildly. I'm afraid. Some day some picture with major radical gay themes will win. Same thing happened with "Milk." No BP win but Best Actor - Sean Penn(which I predicted would happen) a well-respected straight actor playing gay. And they also gave it to Lance Black for Screenplay. Seems they'll give anything gay now any major award, but not Best Picture. Not yet. But soon, I hope....Heath R.I.P. your bravery made all this possible.
@KellyGreen5555 Hoffman was amazing as capote.its like hes not even there. and what hollywood game does he play? iv never read anything that says hoffman is part of "that" hollywood grind. if anything every actor is part of the hollywood game, EVERY ONE of them. heath was good and deserved his recognition, but the joker was probably his best role.
@maiwandi2 Check out Toby Jones as Capote in the film "Notorious"...critics stated that had Toby's film been released first, he would've gotten the Oscar nomination, not Philip Seymore Hoffman. I found PSH's performance terribly one note throughout...it actually grated on my nerves.
Philip does play the Hollywood game; the LA Times did a piece on why Ledger lost the Oscar for Brokeback to Philip.
This interview was so funny, thanks for sharing with the public - StephenHolt you are cool! Interviews like this help us fans of Heath Ledger get on with life without him in this world. I would have loved to watch him getting older, maybe having more children, and just enjoying life. I wonder about what could have been. He did so many interviews and included the public in parts of his life. He was quite a man....and we suffer our loss.. :(
Thank you for your beautiful comment, bxxxbzzz. R U a subscriber? You should be. You'll find many, many Heath fans hereabouts on this Channel. And I'm very glad they're here.
It's a sad thing to see one of the greatest actors in the world ve taken a way so soon. I loved acting, back then, acting was a thing I love to do. I kind of lost contact with the theartre industry back in the day. When I found out Ledger died, it broke my heart. When I saw him as The Joker. DAMN! His performance blew me away. Since then, I went back to acting and continue with my dream. Heath is the reason why I went back. to acting. In my opinion, Heath Ledger is the definition of acting. RIP
I love Heath's reactions towards you. He just leans back, smiles and giggles. I'm sure loads of people miss that.
Rest in peace, Heath. I can't believe it's been a year but you are still alive in everyone's mind and heart.
To haters: Just because we didn't know Heath doesn't mean we can't mourn him. Watching him in movies was good enough for us fans to see a little of him leak through his characters. Every great actor does that.
What the fuck are you talkin bout?overrated?Heath ledger gave one of the best performances of all time and that fucking crackhead downey jr shouldnt even be nominated for an oscar.Heath ledger has already won a golden globe and an sag and not because hes dead or overrated but becuase he deserved them and he'll probably win an oscar becuase he deserves that award too.
I just dusted off my DVD and rewatched Brokeback Mountain it really is one of the greatest movies. Heath your missed, and you deserve the oscar this year for the finest acting performance of 2008.
He also gave the greatest performance of 2005 in "Brokeback" and should've won the Oscar for that. He's missed every day and lives on in the hearts and minds of all of us who loved his work. I'm so proud that I have this interview to remember him by and all your wonderful comments, Heath posters!
I still find it appalling that Ledger did not win for Brokeback Mountain...Philip Seymour Hoffman was good, but Ledger was unforgettable & on par with Marlon Brando in greatness. Let's not forget that Heath was 25 years old when he filmed BM. Think about that...amazing!
I totally agree. Marlon Brando is a good comparison. Heath was legendare in "Brokeback," a film that I told him would "change things" and it did. It was a landmark motion picture and he was also phenomenal in "The Dark Knight." Thank goodness he was awarded for that. Sadly, posthumously.
I know, justbreathe32...One year already. And on a year to the day he died, he gets nominated for another Oscar, which this time, he'll win...It's all so sad, tragic...
This was, to my knowledge, the last interview or one of them he did at the end of a very long and obviously exhausting press junket. And Matilda was keeping them up at night at this time. He and Michelle were very much together, then....And Matilda was a newborn...
He's probably going to win the Oscar, too, for Best Supporting Actor. See my discussion of the nomination predictions in that category with the three critics on my show elsewhere on this channel.
i love heath ledger!!!..he is the best!!...and,...he win o the golden globs...for dark night!!!...well i know that i dont speak english very well....i´m from peru..but...i love heath and i never going to forget him!!...he is handsome, nice, succesfull, very good actor..and..perfectly!!
I LOVE THIS VIDEO...just look at how adorable heath is in this interview sitting there all amused by the interviewer..he can't stop laughing!! :D rest in peace, you will be missed forever!! <3 i am so happy he won the golden globe!!
I LOVE THIS VIDEO...just look at how adorable heath is sitting there all amused by the interviewer.. ;) rest in peace, you will be missed and never forgotten!! <3
Good news! You probably know this already, but Heath Ledger has indeed won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor; the award was accepted by "Dark Knight" director Christopher Nolan, and expressed much gratitude from both the cast and crew on his behalf. Truly unforgettable!
YAY!! ^^ Thank you for sharing this! It shows how much of a gentleman Heath was. Oh, and by the way, he looks very happy to be talking (or listening, depending on how you look at it) to you. I know I would. You seem so nice! =D
Congratulations to Heath and to his family for his winning the Broadcast Film Critics Awards, sometimes called the Critics' Choice Awards for Best Supporting Actor! And the standing ovation was totally deserved and very moving.
Oh Stephen, this is such a brilliant interview. You're so lucky to have met him! I can't wait for his Joker performance to be recognised at the Oscars.
Thank you EternalClem! I do think he's going to win the Golden Globe tomorrow night. And the Oscar too. That standing ovation sent a message to all the awards-givers that this is a "Must-Do" AND "The Dark Knight" has been nominated for many, many guild awards, including the DGA, PGA & others. This shows there's wide support across the industry. You should subsribe! Then you won't miss anything! This is sort of an unofficial Heath site. Keep commenting!
Yes, he's looking at me with this bemused, though observant look, like "How can I use this guy's laugh? How does he do that?" If indeed he did copy my laugh for his protrayal of The Joker, you can see him getting the idea right here!
BTW, you should subscribe! Just hit the "subscribe" button up on top of the page!
I think you got the most natural, comfortable interview with Heath Ledger - more-so than any others on Youtube. I've been looking at a lot trying to build a picture of what Heath was REALLY like and I think this comes the closest to showing him as he is.
WOW! No, Thank YOU, SweetEmotion987!Heath was a doll, as you can see.You should subscribe! This is practically a Heath Fan Site with my Michelle and Anne H. interviews from "Brokeback" here and also see my Tribute that I did with my co-host Frances Chervenak at the time of Heath's death.
And Congratulstions to Heath, his family, Michelle and his lovely daughter, Matilda, who he loved so much - on Heath's Golden Globe Nomination for Best Supporting Actor for "The Dark Night." He'll be nominated for an Oscar, too, and will win it.
Thank you, Laura! It seems the sweetest people loved Heath. And people seem to think he copied my laugh for the Joker! Look at the way he's looking at me. I didn't realize I was so loud! I think the sound guys didn't do an audio check & I just blasted out their machines.I'm trying to modulate my voice these days. Check out my Kristin Scott Thomas interview on the main page. I'm MUCH quieter! But Heath liked me, as you can see...
Haha, I don't see any need to modulate the volume of your voice! It's adorable and uplifting, and I'm sure I too would get a little overly excited if I were interviewing that beautiful man. :)
It is indeed obvious that Heathy took a liking to you. He has a certain twinkle and mirth in his eyes throughout the whole thing.
Thank you again, Laura! And I love your Heath fan site. Everybody who loves Heath should check it out. AND this young woman is an Australia. America went so crazy when he died. And NYC! I can only imagine the extent of the tragedy and its' impact in Australia...Lovely talking to you - AGAIN! I could talk about Heath all day long, as I'm sure you could, too!
It's such a great film and really touches your heart. I'd love it if there were more films like brokeback that explores the difficult side of homosexuality. It's a landmark in movie history.
Beatlescutie93, I think this year's new movie "Milk" is right up there in the brilliant gay film department. And it's soooo getting nominated all over the place. I really recommend highly. I'm hoping to have some of the "Milk" people on my show in December, but you never know how these things will work out. I think Sean Penn is the frontrunner right now for Best Actor for "Milk" and Heath will no doubt win Best Supp.Actor posthumously for TDK & his chilling Joker.
I've heard and seen the trailer and i'm so psyched to see what it's like. Can't wait for Milk! I'll be sure to check out more of your fantastic interviews:)!
It makes me feel good to know that there are still honorable people in the entertainment industry. While many other so-called reporters have said horrible, speculative things about Heath to get publicity, you have consistently taken the high road. They may get ratings, but they will never get respect.
Thank you so much for saying that lexahb. That was very beautiful. I try to do something radically different from what everyone else does, as you point out, which is that I try to treat them as artists and talk about their work. And that's why they like me. And also, I don't talk to people who's work I don't respect or is lousy. That's also why I'm so awards-centric or Oscar-obsessed, at least there's an attempt at quality.
It's great to read such sensitive comments about Heath from a Hollywood reporter. I've been on other reporters' youtube channels, and have read comments from them which made me sick because they further sensationalize this situation. In the end, these people may get ratings, but they will never get respect.
And thank you for subscribing, lexahb. It'll be a very emotional moment when he, posthumously wins the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for TDK...Some people think he based the Joker's laugh on mine, can you believe it? That's such a compliment. And you can see him watching me, or observing me, in a way, that says "I'm going to use that later." I THOUGHT that when I saw TDK, but it keeps getting pointed out to me. So I'll just let it stand. It something we'll never know. Like why he died...
Stephen Holt- I have to say: You're the most refreshing and amusing interviewer I have ever seen! And you're such a lucky guy to meet all these interesting people like Heath or James McAvoy! I think you're questions are always special and really interesting! So, keep up the good work!
I've been a Heath fan for a long time even going back to the late 90s and he was always really shy and awkward in interviews. In fact during the Brokeback Mountain press junket I was surprised to see him more relaxed then ever because I remember seeing him in interviews years before where he would be sooo nervous. Anyway what I always liked about him is he always seemed like an unpretentious guy. Never seemed fake even when having to promote films. Always real.
I am looking so forward to seeing this movie next week. There's all this Oscar talk already about his winning posthumously for Best Supporting Actor. So many people are saying it, but I did say this myself in conversation with my co-host Francis Chervenak and others who work on my show, the week that he passed and we did the tribute to him. It saddens me that this took the ending of his young, promising life to make this all happen. It should've been for "Brokeback."*sigh*
Heath was and still is a truly amazing person. You had the opportunity to meet him, and that is just mind blowing. Thank you for this interview! Heath will forever live on in our hearts! xoxo Kendra
This is such a real and funny clip. Stephen your a great interviewer, and genuine. From one Holt to another. Heath was such beautiful soul...rest in peace my friend...we all will remember you forever!
i still can't believe he's gone heath really changed the world gone but not forgotten...R.I.P. <3 "God saw you getting tired, And a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around you, And whispered, "Come to Me." With tearful eyes we watched you, And saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, We could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, Hard working hands put to rest. God broke our hearts To prove to us, he only takes the best."
yes you're so lucky! i had the little hope to meet him someday just to tell him how much I admire him, how much he was (and still is) important to me. Unfortunately, I never will...I can't accept we lost such a great man and actor! i miss him so much.
You're definetly a lucky person to have interviewed him. He was amazing, and a wonderful father. I subscribed also, i love your energy! You're great, i still can't believe he's gone.
Thank you, Danielle. I know I feel very lucky, too. He's become through this tragic circumstance of dying so young a historical figure. And yes, he did love that little child.
In all the vids I've seen with Heath since his death(RIP) he seemed to be the most relaxed talking with you...awesome...was heath really that shy like they say--all that fidgeting why people make sucha big thing about it yeah i LOVE doing presentations at work yuk...
Jumpygirl3, that's a really lovely comment, thank you so much. This interview was the last one Heath did at the end of a VERY long press junket day in NYC. He was, as you can see, exhausted, and also, I sensed, sleep-deprived because of the newborn baby girl, which was keeping him up nights. People who knew him before he was famous in Perth told me what a private, shy guy he was so all this press he had to do, was very painful and awkward for him. I didn't know he had insomnia, too!
Hi I thought it(subscribe) went through on my first post and then I saw the tribute show clip you did on heath just recently... and it was so nice of you to do that... It's so nice and refreshing to find someone saying such nice things about Heath ..(I never knew him, but I wish I did) It's refreshing (and professional) and kind of you to post such wonderful things compared to all the nasty horrible people who have been saying things just for ratings or just to be mean. Take care!!
I adore his laugh at 1:07 to 1:17 !!! So cute but so sad that it's been almost 4 years since he died :( RIP my idol .. Heath you'll always inspired the world with your perfect and incredible acting -3

Good news! You probably know this already, but Heath Ledger has indeed won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor; the award was accepted by "Dark Knight" director Christopher Nolan, and expressed much gratitude from both the cast and crew on his behalf. Truly unforgettable!
huntress1863 3 years ago 3
YAY!! ^^ Thank you for sharing this! It shows how much of a gentleman Heath was. Oh, and by the way, he looks very happy to be talking (or listening, depending on how you look at it) to you. I know I would. You seem so nice! =D
ZoraZora137 3 years ago 2
Congratulations to Heath and to his family for his winning the Broadcast Film Critics Awards, sometimes called the Critics' Choice Awards for Best Supporting Actor! And the standing ovation was totally deserved and very moving.
StephenHoltShow 3 years ago
Oh Stephen, this is such a brilliant interview. You're so lucky to have met him! I can't wait for his Joker performance to be recognised at the Oscars.
EternalClem 3 years ago
Thank you EternalClem! I do think he's going to win the Golden Globe tomorrow night. And the Oscar too. That standing ovation sent a message to all the awards-givers that this is a "Must-Do" AND "The Dark Knight" has been nominated for many, many guild awards, including the DGA, PGA & others. This shows there's wide support across the industry. You should subsribe! Then you won't miss anything! This is sort of an unofficial Heath site. Keep commenting!
StephenHoltShow 3 years ago
lmao X] heath looks so amused right there lol
ooYumYum 3 years ago 5
Yes, he's looking at me with this bemused, though observant look, like "How can I use this guy's laugh? How does he do that?" If indeed he did copy my laugh for his protrayal of The Joker, you can see him getting the idea right here!
BTW, you should subscribe! Just hit the "subscribe" button up on top of the page!

I think you got the most natural, comfortable interview with Heath Ledger - more-so than any others on Youtube. I've been looking at a lot trying to build a picture of what Heath was REALLY like and I think this comes the closest to showing him as he is.
Thanks.
SweetEmotion987 3 years ago 13

StephenHoltShow 3 years ago
@StephenHoltShow why didnt you post this up in 2005 or 2006?
fuckgd1 9 months ago
This interview is a gem. Thank you so much for sharing it, Stephen.
As always, Heath's intelligence and warmth shone right through, and he obviously felt comfortable with you, more so than usual it seems.
Sighhhh...he's as adorable as ever in this. You're both adorable!
MrsLauraLedger 3 years ago 23
Thank you, Laura! It seems the sweetest people loved Heath. And people seem to think he copied my laugh for the Joker! Look at the way he's looking at me. I didn't realize I was so loud! I think the sound guys didn't do an audio check & I just blasted out their machines.I'm trying to modulate my voice these days. Check out my Kristin Scott Thomas interview on the main page. I'm MUCH quieter! But Heath liked me, as you can see...
StephenHoltShow 3 years ago
Haha, I don't see any need to modulate the volume of your voice! It's adorable and uplifting, and I'm sure I too would get a little overly excited if I were interviewing that beautiful man. :)
It is indeed obvious that Heathy took a liking to you. He has a certain twinkle and mirth in his eyes throughout the whole thing.
What a beautiful soul he was.
MrsLauraLedger 3 years ago 15
Thank you again, Laura! And I love your Heath fan site. Everybody who loves Heath should check it out. AND this young woman is an Australia. America went so crazy when he died. And NYC! I can only imagine the extent of the tragedy and its' impact in Australia...Lovely talking to you - AGAIN! I could talk about Heath all day long, as I'm sure you could, too!
StephenHoltShow 3 years ago
It's such a great film and really touches your heart. I'd love it if there were more films like brokeback that explores the difficult side of homosexuality. It's a landmark in movie history.
Beatlescutie93 3 years ago 13
Beatlescutie93, I think this year's new movie "Milk" is right up there in the brilliant gay film department. And it's soooo getting nominated all over the place. I really recommend highly. I'm hoping to have some of the "Milk" people on my show in December, but you never know how these things will work out. I think Sean Penn is the frontrunner right now for Best Actor for "Milk" and Heath will no doubt win Best Supp.Actor posthumously for TDK & his chilling Joker.
StephenHoltShow 3 years ago
I've heard and seen the trailer and i'm so psyched to see what it's like. Can't wait for Milk! I'll be sure to check out more of your fantastic interviews:)!

It makes me feel good to know that there are still honorable people in the entertainment industry. While many other so-called reporters have said horrible, speculative things about Heath to get publicity, you have consistently taken the high road. They may get ratings, but they will never get respect.
lexahb 3 years ago 7
Thank you so much for saying that lexahb. That was very beautiful. I try to do something radically different from what everyone else does, as you point out, which is that I try to treat them as artists and talk about their work. And that's why they like me. And also, I don't talk to people who's work I don't respect or is lousy. That's also why I'm so awards-centric or Oscar-obsessed, at least there's an attempt at quality.
StephenHoltShow 3 years ago
It's great to read such sensitive comments about Heath from a Hollywood reporter. I've been on other reporters' youtube channels, and have read comments from them which made me sick because they further sensationalize this situation. In the end, these people may get ratings, but they will never get respect.
lexahb 3 years ago 6
And thank you for subscribing, lexahb. It'll be a very emotional moment when he, posthumously wins the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for TDK...Some people think he based the Joker's laugh on mine, can you believe it? That's such a compliment. And you can see him watching me, or observing me, in a way, that says "I'm going to use that later." I THOUGHT that when I saw TDK, but it keeps getting pointed out to me. So I'll just let it stand. It something we'll never know. Like why he died...
StephenHoltShow 3 years ago
thank you for this beautifull interview stephen.
You could see he enjoyed your company and was feeling relaxed.
It feels like we realy see the real Heath here, instead of a fictional portret that was created by the media.
He was such a warm person and he will be missed.

In all the vids I've seen with Heath since his death(RIP) he seemed to be the most relaxed talking with you...awesome...was heath really that shy like they say--all that fidgeting why people make sucha big thing about it yeah i LOVE doing presentations at work yuk...
jumpygirl3 4 years ago
Jumpygirl3, that's a really lovely comment, thank you so much. This interview was the last one Heath did at the end of a VERY long press junket day in NYC. He was, as you can see, exhausted, and also, I sensed, sleep-deprived because of the newborn baby girl, which was keeping him up nights. People who knew him before he was famous in Perth told me what a private, shy guy he was so all this press he had to do, was very painful and awkward for him. I didn't know he had insomnia, too!

jumpygirl3, thank you for subscribing.

Take care!!
