I was reading ''climbing mount improbable' last year, which is mostly about evolution. The book uses the metaphor of a mountain with being at the top equalling improbability or a complex organism. He shows that to go from the bottom to the top of the mountain in 1 big jump would be impossible but evolution occurs graddulary, step by step, moving up the mountain. Part of the book though spends a whole chapter on the spiders & their webs which was totally fascinating.
Wow! spiders are way more intelligent than i am when it comes to obtaining dinner. There is no way in hell i could build somthing like this just based on instincts. I dont even know how to get food like a human. Riight now im being hand fed by a supermarket.

@yptim All the philosophy professors I have ever had have been atheists (as far as I can tell, they don't advertise their beliefs), and two of the most famous today are AC Grayling and Daniel Dennet, both staunch atheists (Sam Harris would be a third, even though he does not have a PhD in philosophy)

The notion of god (again in my opinion), is a weak, simplistic answer to many of human kinds greatest questions. You're not making any sense. Dawkins' is an agnostic in the same way that Sagan was. Both are/were atheists when it comes/came to the Gods of religion. However, both are/were open to the possiblity that there is an intelligence to the universe. I don't think you understand much about Sagan or Dawkins. Also, Sagan is a hero to Dawkins, as he has claimed in many interviews and books.
Dawkins is an agnostic. He even says so in his book (The God Delusion). He rates agnosticism on a Continuum. He is at the highest level of agnosticism. Straddling the border between agnosticism and atheism. He's an atheist in regards to the Gods of religion (like Sagan was). However, he is agnostic to the possibility of an intelligence behind the universe. However, as I said, he's a 'heavy agnostic' to that concept. Also, this is Crazykb.
He doesn't make fun of people. However, again, Dawkins doesn't believe in the Gods of religion. For example, there could be an intelligence behind the universe, in the form of an alien being living in a Parallel universe. I was reading ''climbing mount improbable' last year, which is mostly about evolution. The book uses the metaphor of a mountain with being at the top equalling improbability or a complex organism. He shows that to go from the bottom to the top of the mountain in 1 big jump would be impossible but evolution occurs graddulary, step by step, moving up the mountain. Part of the book though spends a whole chapter on the spiders & their webs which was totally fascinating.

@yptim sorry, but respectful modern day philosophers like a c grayling and sam harris have come to quite the opposite conclusion, they profess that science provides a perfect, unbiased platform for understanding the universe, and that belief in god was our first attempts at science, e.g. what we now know as wind, we once thought was a god puffing up his cheeks and blowing, or that thunder was in fact the gods walking on the clouds.

Of course I know that because I haven't heard of something doesn't make it not so. And if you noticed, I placed the question in front of my statement first in a quisitive manner. sorry for misunderstanding but in the way you put it ,most would misunderstand it. you see, you make a statement by asking a question and then providing an answer, no offence ment so peace. still i do feel that having an opinion on something can only be when someone atleast knows about the subject.

hey dawkins if you would actually ever read this. I didn't expect such mistake from you. You were right about web being too tight and fly flying through it. But the actually problem with lose web would be web entagling it self and making it difficult for the spider to walk around on it. web actually needs to be lose for the fly to be caught on it. That is what the mechanism of extra web does.

Sagan was an atheist to the 'Gods' of religion. As far as being an agnostic, well, for Sagan, he required proof for claims. That includes Gods.

You're not making any sense. Dawkins' is an agnostic in the same way that Sagan was. Both are/were atheists when it comes/came to the Gods of religion. However, both are/were open to the possiblity that there is an intelligence to the universe. I don't think you understand much about Sagan or Dawkins. Also, Sagan is a hero to Dawkins, as he has claimed in many interviews and books.

Dawkins is an agnostic. He even says so in his book (The God Delusion). He rates agnosticism on a Continuum. He is at the highest level of agnosticism. Straddling the border between agnosticism and atheism. He's an atheist in regards to the Gods of religion (like Sagan was). However, he is agnostic to the possibility of an intelligence behind the universe. However, as I said, he's a 'heavy agnostic' to that concept. Also, this is Crazykb.

He doesn't make fun of people. However, again, Dawkins doesn't believe in the Gods of religion. For example, there could be an intelligence behind the universe, in the form of an alien being living in a Parallel universe. Physics states that its possible to create a universe, if certain theories, like String Theory, turn out to be correct. All it takes is the technology to do it. Again, if the theories are correct. Anyway, food for thought...

I have heard Dawkins make comments to people that were curt. However, some of the questions asked to Dawkins are, well, silly. Also, when you compare Dawkins to other people, like Hitchens, he isn't all that rude. Not to mention, if you get asked enough dumb questions, well, you are going to to get annoyed after a while. Give the guy some slack.
