This might be a stupid question, but how do you make a command file...Im an enthusiast in modding so i know atleast some stuff on hacking...but the command file is something that i just don't know how to do
when I press power button while holding the volume +, my Gtablet goes to recovery mode and kernel recovery...it doesn't let me select anything - please hlep!
@rcjpth If you are not getting the new recovery environment, then you have not successfully flashed to 5.0 or one of the 1.2 based ROMS, you need to make sure you have the correct update.zip and recovery folder (with command file inside) in the root of your gtablet
@johntcantrell TNT Lite 5 ROMS were pulled on XDA due to some issues (mostly people not reading instructions). TNT has since been retired and replaced by 'Mountain Laurel' which you can find on Slatedroid - by the same person who developed the TNT ROMS on XDA
That's what it was! I thought I had fixed it by setting the default browser to prefer "desktop" versions of webpages instead of the mobile version, but YouTube was still defaulting to the mobile version for some reason. I had downloaded a couple of different YouTube apps and one of them takes me to the non mobile version. There is some glitchyness with that version but the videos play now at least!
I just got my G-tablet this weekend and I couldn't help but notice that it will not play videos. It won't play ANY videos. I thought it might be the default browser so I downloaded Dolphin and Opera, neither worked. I installed the Flash plugin app as well. It won't even play YouTube videos. That's one of the major reasons I bought this hunk of junk!
@Horace01 Not sure why you are having an issue. I have never had a problem playing any videos from youtube. See the video response to this video which shows youtube playing on a gtablet running stock viewsonic software through the default browser. The gtablet plays quite a large number of video formats without a problem.
@pensacolacomps I know, I see people playing videos on g-tablets and I am very jealous. On mine the videos show up as one big preview thumb with a play button in the middle but when you click it the thumbnail highlights and three minutes later there is an error message about unsupported file types and it gives me the option of force closing.
@pensacolacomps I think I am having a unique problem though because when I google for a solution I get a lot of rooting guides but nobody with similar gripes.
@Horace01 there are issues with certian video formats on some ROMs and stock tablets, but you should not have a problem playing youtube videos on the gtablet as long as you have a good wireless connection. Have you tried playing youtube video in the web browser using the desktop version of youtube?
A note on TNT Lite 5 -- the links for the download have been pulled from XDA due to so many people having issues (mostly issues reading the instructions). It became a bigger hassle due to the fact that the only way to easily recover from problems loading it involved nvflash which is a bit more complicated than the easy ROM flash. Also, it is quite possible that Viewsonic will not continue with this branch of builds. Better to use the latest 4.4 version as it is more current :)
I don't know what isn't clear about what they had at the top of the post for 5.0 - it doesn't get any clearer than this: DO NOT ATTEMPT this if you are not on 3588 stock, or else your system will be semi-bricked install and you WILL need to use nvflash to fix it. Also, DO NOT ATTEMPT this unless you are already well-versed in how to use nvflash as a backout, as it's very possible that you might need to do that. - To me that made it pretty clear that this was not for those who don't know nvflash
currently its on hold indefinitely until they fix these flashing problems. A lot of people bricked it because they fail to flash to stock 3588 and instructions arent always that clear.
Version 5 does require that you come from the stock (updated) version and requires the stock recovery to first insall it. That being said, learning how to use nvflash to restore to factory is probably the best thing the owner of a gtablet could learn how to do as it is sometimes the only way to recover when something goes wrong. When Honeycomb (android 3) is ported, you will probably have to do a stock restore first, and as Honeycomb rocks, now would be a good time to learn nvflash :)
I've got 4.2 running now; what's so different about 5? Barely had enough computer skills to get through flashing it to begin with (was only able to with the help of your videos :-), so I'm a little nervous about trying this one since it involves a full original restore beforehand. Your videos are incredibly helpful, and I'm a Pcola native living in Biloxi so I'll be sure to encourage family to utilize your business for computer needs; appreciate what you do for computer dummies like me!

@marinecorpsman5 create a file named command (text file with no extension)
The text should be: --update_package=SDCARD:/update.zip

It is sad that so many people failed to read the instructions properly as 5.0 is in my opinion quite good.
