  • awesome! :D

  • I danced many times to this song. I luv Sam and Dave and their music.they were good.

  • geoffrey break out lucille haha

  • Did Steve Cropper, and 'Duck' Dunn' play on this version, too? Somebody let me know. Dave Prater was singin' out of his range. He actually was a baritone. turned into a 2nd tenor, by Isaac Hayes. Sam and Dave hit #2 in Billboard, 11-4-67. God bless ya, for postitn' it. Thanx! Have a great week! RIP, brother Dave!

  • @DaveWollenberg Written by Isac Hayes and David Porter, released through Stax Records, the back up band was Booker T. And The MG's, and yes they included Donald "Duck" Dunn and Steve Cropper. The rest is sweet soul history.

  • JEFFREY.....BRING OUT LUCILLE

  • @MrMike1017 hahahahah what a hustler

  • I love Sam and Dave and their music. danced many times to this at service clubs at Ft. Benning Ga. during the Viet Nam war,God bless our military.

  • I`m glad I grew up with this kind of music playing in the background almost everywhere my friends and me would go.It brings back lots of happy memories.

  • Yeahhhh, that's the one. That little guitar riff gets me every time.

  • Love Sam & Dave. RIP dear Dave! Sam does an amazing Rainy Night In Georgia with Conway Twitty in 1993. It's fabulous! Only Brook Benton's original comes close. It's on YouTube, thanks be to all who keep the love alive!

  • God Bless - And Sam still with us, thanks be! Love him at the Sting concert - such a humble and great man - and he and Conway doing Rainy Night in Gerogia - come on! Only Brook Benton's original comes close! RIP Dave - You are So missed!

  • 22 people were not educated at good stock

  • 21 people were not educated at woodstock!

  • Sam and Dave were an awesome soul team, because they brought the best out of not only their soul beats, but they undisputely made soul music out of the world.

When you dance around to these classical soul hits, they just brought the best out of our lives.

Sam and Dave were two classical soul brothers of all-time.

    RIP, Brother Dave Prater.

  • you always know when a song is great, by the number of nitwits that think they have to press thumbs down on it

  • I guess I need my dayly dose of soul Music (sweeeet soul music) to "ease my mind" and soothe my soul (soothe me bayby soothe me),that's what I say - Baby Baby give my regards to Carla Thomas and the rest of "the Crew"

  • OBAMA IS A SOUL MAN

  • How can you say this song is a "gay song but good"? totally contradicted yourself there

    thanks!

  • This song can make a dead man dance!!

    Great!!

  • Awesome.

  • good

  • These two guys were the best R&B duo of all time, second to none. The Righteous Brothers and Hall & Oates a near second with their blue-eyed soul renditions. I also need to give credit to The Everly Brothers who would inspire them with their 2 part harmony so vital in singing as a duo. Oh Yea, let's not forget The O'Jays, The Isley Brothers, and all of Motown. Now that's what I call sweet soul music!!

  • Salutations to Mr Isaac Hayes and the rest of the crew

  • Whoever made the melody for this song, this person is a genious!!! It's extremelly hard to forget it after listenning to it only once!!! One of the best songs ever, in my opinion.

    JulyN

  • Isaac Hayes and David Porter wrote this.

  • i think it was steve cropper {sp?} with the signature guitar lick...

so maybe duck dunn is on bass...

one of the best songs....one for the ages!

  • This is from the days when music came from the heart, it came from the soul. These artists performed because they loved music - it was a part of their being.

  • This reminds me of the Blues Bros. Great Song!

  • Like Donald "Duck" Dunn said. "This could turn goat piss into gasoline"

  • he song is really great!

  • What a great song. Sam and Dave with the Stax house band..the MG's (Memphis Group). Steve Cropper, Donald Dunn etc. Doesn't get much better than this...even all these years later. Great to see that even young kids of today like it. Talent always shines through.

  • Going straight into my playlist thanks this song.

  • The bass on the song has got to be one of the coolest riffs in the history of Soul music. It ranks right up there with the bass riff in the song "In The Midnight Hour"

    Its what i think anyways

  • Spot on!

    Song is legend!

  • I ♥ the trumpet part!!!

  • It is such a shame that modern day bands don't make use of wind instruments as much any more...

  • Yeah me too dog! I was a R&B drummer back "then" too! I reveled in this style of FUNK.

  • R.I.P.

  • R.I.P. Isaac Hayes

  • pure legend of a tune! :)

  • Great song, originally thought it was James Brown until now, don't know why I thought that though!

  • deam greate

  • Classic!

  • The Blues Brothers were paying TRIBUTE to soul, not trying to change it. Both Belushi and Akroyd grew up with and appreciated this music.

  • Man, I love both versions so much. This started it, and the Blue Brothers kept that music in our ears. Thank both for their work, it's awesome.

  • Didn't Steve Cropper & Duck Dunn play on this version?

  • Yes, they were studio musicians at Stax records and played for Wilson Pickett, Eddie Floyed, Otis Redding and the like. But they also formed the band Bootker T and the MGs with keyboard player Booker T and Drummer Al Jackson.

  • Hahaha, that's pretty friggin' comical.

  • I remember playing along this song, when I first started learning drums, so funky and fun to hit hard! Can't help but really get into it!

  • Pure funk here....listen how the bass player and drummer double up on their 16th notes!

Everyone else glosses over this and we "lose the funk!

All of Sam&Daves music had the band that didn't "water down" the funk....."you feel me?"

  • Love this song!

  • kawadude111 you should be shot for your sacrelege to soul music. j/k

  • <3

    Ain´t too short...

  • this is the actual blues brothers not jim belushi and the other dude

  • John* Belushi and Dan Akroyd. << theirs was 10 times better.

  • Dude Whatever I guess ppl are intitled to their opinion. an mine obviously upset u but whatver i couldnt give a fuck about what you think. as long as i think its cool

  • i never said these guys were bad...

  • i fucking love this song

  • Perfection. Sublime.

  • S O U L

  • ten kawałek zawsze dobrze mnie nastraja. Są jeszcze inne wersje wykonywane przez innych muzyków, ale jak to często bywa pierwsza wersja najlepsza. Old School!

  • sam and dave! from pensacola florida!whenever they'd be in their hometown, they'd sing" comin to ya, from the gulf coast" heh.

  • this does it for me now this is music im 24 yrs old and i feel this song even today

  • We're playing this in Jazz Band. It's alota fun!

  • Ahh, more STAX aficianados! GREAT! Hey, if you haven't done so, try to pick up a copy of Rob Bowman's "SOULSVILLE USA: The Story of Stax Records." I've owned it for nearly 10 years, and it's a VERY great book! Lots of interesting little tidbits...like Steve Cropper using a cigarette Lighter instead of a slide on this very song! Like Al Jackson laying his wallet on the head of his snare dram to get his signature sound heard here!

  • soul man just sounds so upto date still lol Used to be a Mod and Stax Roadshow was brilliant 60s just the best years ever!!

  • Love OLD SCHOOL for me averyday is old school

    xx

  • where?

  • 60s music still rocks this world :D

  • BB King, SAM AND DAVE, they are the best 60s soul and rithem and blues rocks, rolls and swings its the beest in the world got to love it.

  • Take me home o;l school

  • tune

  • This is such an awesome song ^_^, and although the blues brothers version was nowhere near as good, i still like it. But i'd choose this version any day.

  • Man I love this song!!!!

  • Classic!

  • What a good time! Powerful music, innocent, joyful... and with an attitude!

  • Yeah!!!!!!!! Takes me back.

  • :þ Nice Song LOve it (Y)

  • Elserap...You have great taste in music.

  • Donald "Duck" Dunn is playing bass. These are some of the same guys who are backing the Blues Brothers. Duck Dunn & Steve Cropper are on both bands' recording of this song. Lame though Ackroyd & Belushi may have been compared to the real deal, they were re-exposing a new generation to these tunes, and for that, deserve credit.

  • terrytennessee..I think you and I have the same musical education when it comes to Stax music...We both know the history of this stuff. I say, glad to meet someone else who has the knowledge and love for this stuff as I have...nice to know ya.

  • Booker T. and the MGs is the backing band for stax.Real tight group. If you wanna hear a great instrumental by them listen to green onions.

  • Play it Steve! It's a shame that most people are familiar with this soul classic because of the lame cover version by the Blues Brothers. I'm Asshole Man!

  • LMAO! Can't agree with you more, problem49!

  • ManuelWorker..thanks for posting this incredible gem.

  • Arnold..I doubt if it was James Jamerson. He was part of the Funk Brothers, the Motown house band. Sam and Dave recorded on Stax label and their house band was Booker T and the MG's.

  • Real American Soul.

  • This song is one of the best soul records ever.

    I love it ♥

    XXX

  • that's the way we do this...

  • I wonder if that's James Jameson on bass.

  • It isn't.

  • playing this in band, its the most fun song to play
