  • I have a question. If I only want a two stitch boarder when I come to the slip stitch on the purl stitch am I only purling one stitch?

  • I knit and crochet (though not as well as knit) and tri-loom, too.

My friend does only tri-loom and she's a genius with it, as she is with Swedish Weaving on Monk's cloth and/or Aida and Huck.

However, she just can't seem to learn how to crochet or knit - so she bought a Knitting Board, which is similar to the loom shown in this video, except that it has 'nails' not pegs. The nails are like tri-looms.

She sent me the KB - I look forward to a different way to play.

    Like learning new stitch.

  • "CLOVER" crochet Hook

  • ^loom

  • Where can I buy the knitting room?

  • Wow, thank you. I was getting really frustrated trying to do this on my own, and the descriptions are not very easy to interprete when someone isn't showing you how. I so glad I was able to follow along with you. Thanks again.

  • awesome!

  • I am so happy for videos like this. I had to buy a kniffty knitter set after injuring my left arm. It makes it easier for me to enjoy knitting and doing arts and crafts with my friends and family easily without the pain or struggle of using needles. (I am twenty just so some of you know)

  • can u make a scarf with this stitch?

  • Thank you for this video! I bought a Knifty Knitter set years ago but only made a bunch of simple hats on it. At the time there did not seem a whole lot more to do with them. But now I see things have changed! I bouht your book after seeing this video and think this flat panel design has me wanting to make an afghan. So I have a question. What stitch do you think would be best to join the panels together? Should I use a mattress stitch? Or is there someting better?

  • Fantastyczne !

  • can anyone do a video how to make a knited cupcake on a loom? x

  • @irmar I've been using a loom for three days. Today I made three hats - Fancy fluffy ones too!

I learned to 'real' knit about 14/7 ago since then I made 4 scarves 3with pingpong wool 1 with eyelash wool. I haven't got the patience or coord for ordinary, plain wool. As a beginner I find the frustration of missing stitches and incorrect tension with knitting to be a barrier to keep going with it.

Looms are fun! This vid is slowed for edu. An empty pen with wool is the trick to inc speed.

  • @irmar : Thankfully there are people like Purling Sprite who put many videos up for those of us interested in knitting with a loom. If you want to knit or crochet with needles / hook, go on ahead. There are many people with arthiritis or other autoimmune diseases that prevent them from having the manual dexterity that you say you posess. Do us all a favor and keep your negative comments to yourself.

  • @irmar

I am sorry you feel this way about loom knitting. I am actually an accomplished needle knitter and feel quite comfortable knitting with needle or a knitting loom, and I can even crochet too. Not everyone is able to handle knitting needles, for this reason the knitting looms came to be and I am grateful that I am able to help those who cannot needle knit.

  • @PurlingSprite

It's not a question of how I "feel", it's a question of time and effort you have to put in for just a simple stitch. I understand that some people may have disabilities that don't allow them to use needles, and for those it's a precious tool. But it's not presented this way. It's presented as "easier". Newbies who have never tried needles will take up the loom without even giving needles a chance, thinking that this is easier. I was trying to point out that it's not.

  • @irmar You need to remember this is YOUR preference. Not all find needles to be easier, and to say they are isn't right-- it's all a matter of what you are comfortable with. Just saying that someone doesn't want to try is extremely rude and demeaning.

I can both knit and use looms and I find looms to be much more comfortable. It's irritating to constantly drop stitches or miscount, and with looms that's not an issue.

  • I am trying to make a sample afghan and It requires the "stockinette" stitch. I have done mine 5 times and it is supposed to look like the middle of this finished square in the video, but my entire thing looks like the edge of the finished square. I am following the directions in the book which just say knit across for 64 rows. It doesn't say to purl anything ever. I am wondering if I should disregard the instructions and knit then purl or figure out what I am doing wrong? any suggestions?

  • @crweldinger a stocking (also called stockinette) stitch is when you knit the right side and purl the wrong side. Stockinette has a wrong side to be worn. If you see little "v" shapes, it's the right side, if you see little "humps", it's the wrong side. Personally, I think you should disregard the intructions you have there because you say it's not working... if you knit both right side and wrong side, you get a garter stitch, not a stockinette stitch.

  • I have no idea how to upload a video to show you the few types of looms I have. It does say to 'Create' a video. Which I have done. Now I don't even remember the exact name. But, I do remember that part of it is called, Margothz video.. something..

    I hope that helps. lol

  • I did exactly what she did and my looks horrible. =[

  • am using this method to make a baby blanket...this needs alot of patience & time...but its worth it & + its turning out great!! thx for posting!! <3

  • @SmoothFox1955: If you observe carefully, you can clearly see it:

KNIT = position new yarn ABOVE the peg yarn and go grab it by inserting the tool upwards (from the bottom of the peg)

PURL = position yarn BELOW the peg yarn and go grab by inserting the tool downward (from the top of the peg)

  • There is an easier way to use the loom but it is NOT the same thing she is doing on this video. An ewrap stitch is NOT what she is doing here. This is a knit stitch and a purl stitch. You use these so your edges don't curl up. If you make something flat like a blanket strictly using the ewrap stitch your items will curl up on the sides. You must put some sort of border all the way around it like the garter stitch (knit, purl, knit purl).

  • I understand the knit vs purl now. Purl has the string on bottom of loop and knit is on the top. But I get confused on what to do with the string when you get to the end. Look like she bring it around the front when she gets to the left but on the right, she lifts off the loop and moves it around but its not clear on what would happen if you were to accidentally twist that loop after you take it off and put it back on.

  • I'm trying to start knitting clothes for myself but I'm on a tight budget, I picked up some good ideas at ebeginnersknitting (.) com

  • Same here, I cant see any difference between what you are calling a purl and a stitch.

  • great video but I do not understand the instruction on the purl 3, knit, purl 3 row if you just do two purls next to the stitch you are going to drop one time or if you continue that thru the rest of the project

  • Comment removed

  • your binding off technique was very easy to follow.

  • Thank you for this video. Great job on showing how to do it.

I am trying to learn to make it and i know i can after watching this.

    Thanks again.

  • Very clever way to do the same process, good to learn new things. Very well explained. Very kind of you!

  • Great Videos, I am hoping to start a group here in the uk. To help my elderly friends feel that they can continue knitting, as they find using needles difficult. Thanks for your help, I hope you continue theses videos. I just love these looms. Made jumpers, all sorts, just imagination that all thats needed.

  • Thank you! This is so helpful!

  • is it a scarf?

because i wanna do one and that looks nice

  • THANK YOU VERY EASY AND SIMPLE

  • @HerrBoys but how do you add the garter stitch to the edges of an existing stockinette stitched blanket?..i've done 18 rows and see it's curling, and will need to add the garter all around..can i knit it on, or do i have to use a crochet needle?

  • This makes it ultra-complicated than it really is.

  • Ok so I get the 5 row garter stitch at the beginning... 1 pearl row, then 1 knit row for 5 rows. Then I get confused. Looks like she goes left to right does a purl row for 3 pegs then back to a knit stitch, then gets to the end, turns around and does a regular knit stitch all the way across, then says repeat

SO is one row purl for three on each end then knit, and the row going left to right is all knit stitch for the entire length of the project?Trying to figure out garter stitch up the sides

  • @starnstv : the garter stitch is (1 row KNIT, 1 row PURL). So if you want to have a garter stitch edging all around, you start by making a few rows of garter stitch. Then, you continue the same way except that you insert a series of rows that are only knitted in the center (stockinette square). Knitting from peg 1 going to the left, you KNIT all the way. Returning, you PURL3 and KNIT the rest EXCEPT for the last 3 stitches, which you also PURL. Continue and use garter stitch again to finish :)

  • what dose she mean repeart these two rows

for the rest of your of your item?

and at end you do the first five row for the garder stitch>

if anyone can help me please help.

    thank you very much

  • very detail...

  • Thank you

  • what is she doing .-.? a scarf?

  • That is an ultra complicated way to do it. I am sure it will look great but the looms are meant to make it a faster process and you can simply wrap the yarn around each peg twice and then pull the bottom loop over the top with the tool included with the loom.

  • In her book she shows how you just need to ewrap the first row, then you can just hold the loose yarn above the existing row and pull bottom loop over loose yarn.

  • @kedwards1978 It's really not that complicated.

  • I don't get it...what do you mean by .."At the end repeat the first five rows so your work will not curl?

  • Thank you AGAIN!!! :)

  • Very informative! I just started learning to knit yesteday. I bought a loom last night & honestly had no idea how to use it until I watched your videos =)

  • As mentioned Purling is pulling the working yarn from the bottom up, while Knitting is pulling from the top down. She has videos on each stitch that make it easier to see.

Back on the video!! Thank you so much Isela! You are awesome. I have learned alot between your site, books, and videos. I have been trying to figure out how to pull this one off for a while and this is so easy!!! It's hardly the hard way. It goes really quick once you get it down!

  • Knitting on strait needles is a lot faster but this looks like a fun new way to knit! The video was very nice and clear. Thanks!

  • I have done via your instructions and my scarf is still curling. Should I do a knit row followed by a purl row to prevent my scarf from curling.?

  • when your knitted pieces curl, you can hold the piece over a pot of boiling water and stretch it out flat. Kinda like ironing it but this way you know it wont burn your yarn as a lot of yarns are made with synthetic materials.

  • you do it the hard way thers a much easier way to do it but good job anyways=)

  • Thanks! this is so Helpful! && I love it. Thanks so much. Now I can do something different. =D

  • from what i gather from the video to do the purl stitch the working yarn in toward the bottom of the peg and with the knit stitch the working yarn is towards the top of the peg...

  • I've watched this 10 times and can't catch the difference between the knit and the purl stitch. Maybe do one in slow motion or be more specific.

  • Totally agree with you, is just not clear for beginners, even when the author means good, but maybe she should zoom in and explain clearly...

  • @SmoothFox1955 knit - working yarn on top

purl - working yarn on bottom

  • @SmoothFox1955 I agree.

  • @SmoothFox1955 the purl row you bring the hook DOWN to go under the stitch already on the peg, the knit row you bring the hook UP to go under the stitch on the peg... not sure if that makes it any more clear...

(oops just noticed you commented a year ago lol)

  • @KieliAnne Thanks. I had the same question.

  • I've always wanted to know how to use a loom. I appreciate that you went slow. Great little panel. I like the fact that the stitches are all even.

  • Great instuctions, I've always wondered how to do this, thanks for the information!

  • This looks so much harder/slower/clumsier than knitting with two needles!

  • No, it really isn't. I prefer it to needles for some projects--especially hats! I can do them on a loom in about 1/3 the time I can do them with needles. Quick, loosely knit scarves are also nice on the loom.

  • Nice and different work. I will try in my next project and will let you know the results.

  • it's helpful for the dummies. I bought the book but couldn't understand it .Thanks a lot

  • would this work if you went all the way around the loom, making a wider flat panel?

  • cool

  • My cousin gifted me with the set of 4 round knifty knitters this past weekend. Thank you for your video tutorials, I learn so much better from a demo than from reading a description of the demo.

  • what is this for?

  • Very cool. Thank you very much.

  • I didn't quite get this, but I liked the end result.

  • Ok i've been using knifty knitters, the really small one... It's like the smallest one out there, and anyways all i know how to do is the knit that the instructions gave which isn't much but if anyone has some links or anything with stuff you can do with the mini ones please mail them to me.

  • can i just do it the regular way without doing it that way.

  • where do you buy it at.

  • i bought mine at Michaels Craft Store, I was also looking on eBay.

  • jo anns, mine is from jo anns

  • If I DO want to knit the first peg the working yarn will be to the left of the peg i'm working on but when you DON'T knit the first peg the working yarn is to the right of the next peg your knitting. Is the working yarn supposed to be to the left or the right of the "next" peg?

  • Great great video! Everything I need to know

  • This video was very informational thank you:)

  • Thanks, very good.

  • Very very lost!!

  • Ok Honeykiss7 it took me a few times but I finally got it. In order to make the panel flat you have to knit opposite rows so it dosent curl. In the first row Isela knitted a purl stitch,(to the left) she put the (feed) yard on top, when she purled to the right she placed it on the bottom. At the end of that row she takes the loop off and places the yarn tail to the front. Whatch the video without sound and make your own notes. Good Luck :)

  • Cool, I forgot I even posted a comment on this video. LoL Thank you!!

  • Thanks so much! I can't wait to try this!

  • i already tried it and it was really cool

  • how do you make a poncho or socks?

  • eso si esta increible... :)

muero por comprarme le kit!!! xD

  • Thank you! I'm going to try this tomorrow.

  • Isela You are a very good teacher. Thanks for all your videos.

  • Wow. I watch your tutorials, and I think 'hey, I can do that!'. I'm so excited to try this!

  • it was lovely...it is very kind of u to teach us all ..this technique

  • I LOVED THIS VIDEO!! I am new to loom knitting and being a visual person this was perfectly executed and very easy to follow. THANK YOU!!!

  • I watched this video a couple of weeks ago and love it.

  • how come the side looks like a different pattern than on the inside?

  • because she did a garter stitch edge.

  • Thank you so much. Such a helpful tutorial.

  • It is a good video to learn the flat panel method of knitting on the knifty knitter loom.

    Thank you

    knitloomlearner

  • Isela, you are so great at explaining this! Better than any book I've bought. Now anytime I'm in a bookstore and see a book that may help, I always remember to check your videos first to see if you have something that I need before I pay out money. You should definitely see about marketing your videos. They really are the best tutorials you can find, free or otherwise! Thank You!!!!

  • I saw some other videos and I after I saw yours it was much better.

  • your videos are so easy to follow! thank it does really help, can't wait to try loom knitting

  • Could you show the different cast ons? The only ones I know are the ewrap and this one you showed using the crochet hook.

A glove or mitten would also be great!!!

  • cool :D

  • ooh!this looks easier than knitting!im going to do this now!

  • knitting is pretty easy yo like yo k2tog purl knit double cast key hole increas decreas cast on/off its alll good

  • I just started using the loom and the only stitch I've done is the e wrap knit stitch. I made a tube scarf how do I remove from the loom?

  • Isela, as usual you do an excellent job of explaining techniques!
