  • Ummmmm....

  • WOW!!!! VERY please with the soloist!! FANTASTIC job!!!!!!

  • Shes Amazing :)

  • Beautiful solo job.

  • I have to sing this in my choir.

  • 0:00

  • hate it

  • @MRSHAWNLANE Don't Worry, It Hates You Too.!

  • can i have her voice?

  • i like how "no" is almost dragged out into the next word :D.

    really good

  • Yay for Gunn![:

  • The music specifically indicated tenuto.. why is everyone singing stacato?

    Sounds great.

    Just not correct..

    The girl is good too.

    Good job guys. : )

  • @ayoitzscott1

one song can have more than one arrangement :)

orrrrrr maybe the conductor thought it sounded better staccato?

  • whoa we are singing this in italy this yr...when i searched this up i didnt expect my high school to show up :O

  • well done!! you sing this very well. The soloist is also very good!1 HOWEVER!!!!! The girl to the left of the soloist doesnt even open her mouth and shes in the FRONT ROW!!! Shes not even SINGING!! GAT RID OF HER or put her in the back row!!

  • I'm trying out for this solo as well. =) This is my fav song we are singing in choir...Gonna perform it soon...Wish us all luck. ^_^

  • She puts so much emotion into her solo its amazing

  • She really got some soul in this song.. Very good!!!

  • Just got the solo for this!!!! Ya!!!

  • wow just wow.

    amazzingg!!!

  • I looooove this song... :) a soulfull stuggle song...

    -Afro

  • i went to that high school it was the best!

  • I think that guy behind her is cute. : )

  • I really like this version, but mostly because of the soloist. She seems to really make the music her own, and she has a beautiful voice to do it with. The choir, however, seems to fall a bit flat. Most of their faces just look dead, and at a few points they're a little quiet, and it's been a while since I've sang this song, but I don't think there's any dynamic lower than forte in this song. Whatever, it still sounds really good.

  • @soradg no. the beggining is supposed to be very piano then swell up to a strong forte.

  • @Nf9456 Then that would probably explain it. Their faces do look a tad boring, but to reiterate, this is still an amazing performance.

  • @soradg Yeah I agree. Deffinitley some other stuff to work on, but I totally agree. They did a really nice job

  • Did this song back in the day at my high school. You are amazing. Keep up that great talent, you have a very powerful and inspirational voice

  • Why do some people who try out for a solo get mad when somebody else gets it LOL.! Ive experienced that alot because my director pics me alot for solos and ALOT of people hate lmao. im like damn, it aint my fault I can sing better than you...

  • My schools doing this this year and I have the solo, wont do it as well as you though...

  • It's on You tube, type in 2010 TMEA All State Choir

  • Great JOB ladies and gents! Soloist was AMAZING!! :) Check out our choir!

  • The soloist is very wonderful. As for the rest of the choir, they sounded nice, but they were too "fidgety" in my eyes...Other than that, amazing performance.

  • I'm trying out for the solo in this and her voice is absolutely fabulous and so soulful.

  • @momijifugimia

I hope you get the solo. :)

  • check out the soloist on my page!!!

  • I think she was amazing I love the emotion in her face ... and control ... GREAT JOB!!!!

  • so super super super beautifulllllllllllll...thank you thank you thank you!!!!

  • I went to highschool with the soloist, and this may be shaky but she's absoultely amazing singer, always amazes me.

  • that is some voice she has. wow.

  • Thank you!

  • good soloist. but there was one girl behind the soloist who looked as if she wasn't singing at all. and the choir could have put more emotion into the song instead of having blank faces.

  • yeah, she was staring at the soloist. she probably tried out for the solo and didnt get it haha

  • This is amazing. !!! .

  • I get teary eyed every time I hear this. We also sing it in our high school choir and it was sang at my 16 year old friends funeral

  • omgsh. that is very unfortunate. I'm sorry.

  • from 0:42-1:39 the girl behind the soloist with curly hair wasn't singing at at she was just moving her lips.....

  • .. She wasn't even moving her lips. O_O

  • this was a mixture of freshmen and the older high schooler -- the freshmen hadn't learned the piece.

  • The choir isn't as good as her, without this solo the song would be nothing, as performed, by them (no offense). Wow. She's just that good.

  • i thought she did amazing. and she had such soul and feeling. Simply AMAZING!

  • We Sing this song in Choirs Class, Love It, and great Job Guys.

  • I feel like she's short of breath this whole song. And her vibrato is just tooooooooo shaky! Plus, NEVER PUSH ON YOUR DIAPHRAGM WHILE PERFORMING!!!!

  • I can't be positive here, but I don't think she was "pushing on her diaphragm" I think she was trying to put more focus on breathing from her diaphragm by putting her hands there rather than singing from the throat like most soloists.

  • Even if she wasn't, her hand should not be there because other singers and even perhaps other audience members might mistake it like I did. Plus, I think her whole performance was just rather shaky and not that good.

  • bitch can sing tho

  • AWESOME! I'm singing this in my school choir. :)

  • i LOVE IT!

  • Awesome!!! Sing Girl!!! This is really good.

    ~Dawson & Dawson

  • Also, I felt the need to add that 1:43-145 is like a perfect moment.

  • I sang this solo! She's way better than me o.o But seriously, awesome. So awesome.

  • Simply amazing... so much passion with the soloist.... well done :-)

  • This is just all around amazing, anyway, but that soloist just killed it. She's absolutely AMAZING.

  • OMG! im in middle school and we are doing this song for chorus... the girl doing the solo is amazing at singing! i lovee it! i ahev a concert next week and hopefully we do good (:

  • This girl is amazing. My school did this piece this year, which for the choir part was spectacular. The instructor divided the song into two solos (the opening part before the choir sings for a second time is one solo, and everything after that is the second solo). But the first soloist was terrible and I can't understand why she picked him. The second soloist floored it beautifully. But I really think this girl has soul; she's fluid, loose, elegant, and seamless.

  • You go Caitlin. I always knew this girl would be amazing when I first heard her sing as a freshman at our highschool.

  • we're singing this for my chorus.

    so excited!

    i LOVE this song(:

  • This clip brings back great memories of the Gunn HS Choir Tour to Italy that I was fortunate enough to be a part of.

  • its for singing support, it helps

  • She's doing a solo that requires better airflow and posture than a normal choir solo, because it's soul. The two ways to enhance the support of the diaphragm is to put your hands either on your stomach, or on your waist.

  • that grl waaaaaas amaizng!

  • I.

    Love.

    Her.

    Voice.

  • I love the song but not this preformance. I'm sorry. There was no emotion except in the solo. Also, everyone in the background was singing with proper diction for singing. This is a soul song. When sung it was probably sung with a southern accent.

They can sing...just not this song. Soul songs need emotion. If everyone in the choir could relate the song to something in that makes them angry it might sound better.

  • I completely agree.

I did this for a district chorus and put much more emotion into it. It's so much more fun that way!

  • The choir isn't meant to show emotion. If the choir showed emotion, ANY emotion, they'd detract from her performance. This song is about the soloist, not the choir.

  • We're doing this in our class. =D

  • everytime i see this i seriously cannot get over the quality and soul of her voice!! she sounds just like susan tedeschi!

  • aww! the ending is so cute!!

  • I got chills. Soloist: you are a beast.

  • jeeeeeze shes so good.

  • wow. she sings with so much soul. she's amazing. absolutely amazing.

  • her face is excellent in this and portrays the soul aspect of this song VERY well...

  • i agree. her expression matches her tone exactly.

  • Wow omg my choir is doing this song & me and my bestfriend love it! amazing soloist. is she a soprano 1 as well? i am too :)

  • Woooooow. Girl, you can sing. Wow. I can really feel the emotion there. To me that is the most important part of singing. Wow. Keep singing.

Also, the choir has awesome dynamics. Very nice.

  • that was really good, but at the beginning it was kind of stacatto. it sounds really good if you drag it out a bit.

  • It's written in stacatto...

  • i have it right in front of me. no actually, it isn't thank you very much

  • There are multiple arrangements for it; I have a copy in which it IS. Thank you very much.

  • so do i.

  • i love this song!

  • One of the best soloists I've heard on this song...great job!!

  • That was beautiful. My state choir did that once before and damn near got me to cry, but you guys are amazing.

  • i sang this just yesterday for a concert!

  • amazing soloist.

a choir from alaska sang this song at a convention in chicago this past summer with about 18 people

    amazing soloist

one pointer would be to move around a bit

and to have the chorus behind the soloist show some emotion instead of stone still faces

  • were singing this at a concert on tuezday

  • go ahead and sing it girl. I'm a blues musician anyone know the chords?

  • It sent chills up and down my spine. I enjoyed it very much as it was moving.

  • This is spiritual.....I think you all are doing a bit too refined. Soloist is doing great.

  • GOOD MOTHER OF GOD!

    That was AMAZING!!!!!!

  • when my choir did this we did amazingly, but with so many people, it sounds wonderful. And the soloist... wow. just.... wow. beautiful and heartfelt. She's not forcing her emotions, but it sounds like she's the pilgrim. wonderfully done. And the outfits are beautiful as well. I wish we could have worn those instead of our blueberry dresses.

  • hey!@# this is awesome!@# my chorus/ choir whatever you wanna call it, just did a concert on this last thursday!@# we did very good, and this choir beats us out of the dust!@# you guys did sooo much better.

  • ah i loved this, soloist was great

  • epic fail

  • how about, instead of comparing us to your choir, you think of us as a different set of singers and don't think you are all that special because this performance was not for awards. We sing because we love singing. Not to get special awards to fill our egos.

  • well our show choir(bulter high school..Augusta,GA)SONG IT BETTER..but nice job..i like it

  • fail

  • FUCK YOU HELLA GOOD

  • Henry Leck

  • i am singing this this year (6th Grade) in my choir. This is a great a song and the soloist is amazing! great job!!!!!!!

  • i am sooo excited to sing this song!

my school sang it my freshman year & i loved it! now i get to sing it as a senior!

i love it! this girl has an ubelievable voice!

really gets you in the "sarrow" mood! lol!

    love it!

  • the altos sound amazing! and the blend is wonderful as is the phrasing...and the soloist is great!

  • a choir from i think Alaska sang this at a choir convention in chicago when we were

performing for each other but they were like only 18 of them

    it was amazing

  • I've been looking for the sheet music to this forever. I sang the solo in high school when we did it and lost the sheet music a few years later and don't remember how to play it on piano. Y'all did GREAT! Wish she wouldn't have been so nervous...she had no reason to be. SOOOO good to hear this again. :)

  • we sang this at my school for our jr. high, sr.high female choir piece. it was fun to sing. our choir teacher gave the solos to three girls.. or 2 i don't remember, but it was great. this choir was amazing on this song

  • I abolutely love this song. She's great.

  • Amazing....

  • My choir is singing this now I'm trying out for the solo! =] wish me luck! ^_^

  • did you get it?

  • wow she is really good!

  • phenomenal just fanstasic the solo was

    magnificent

  • WOW! I sang this solo a few years ago in my high school choir, but she just blows it away! Great improvisation =) I loved it.

  • wow i like this we are doing it for our group and i want the solo part

  • That's what music is all about, folks. Thank You, to all those who will perform and have performed this.

  • Great song..... I really did not like the start because of the wrong note, but over all it sounded great.

  • OMG thanx for posting this video it gave me a good idea for how the solo sounded and i got the solo!!!!! thanx again !!!!!

  • I'm so sad Caitlin has nodes!

  • omg i love this song!! we're singing it this spring with my varsity choir.

good soloist by the way : )

  • my ensemble just did this song for ACSI musical and we did the command performance and got a trophy! Hurrah to our amazing soloist and ensemble!

  • my vocal group is doing this right now its an amazing song

  • :O I'm in the vocal ensemble at Hill Park. They're pretty awesome at it.

    Max aka

The tall dude who hangs out with the shorter-than-me-but-still-tall dude, bass section.

  • All i can say is WOW. This girl is amazing.

  • amazing. :]

  • good job. my choir did this two years ago at a gospel gala. this was decent, but not as soulful... the soloist was really good, but everyone else, including the piano was a bit stiff

  • i agree

  • hey just wanted to say thanks cuz this really happy practice for my solo for this song and i ended up getting it !!! you have sucha great voice !

  • incredible.

    Soloist is so blessed...just beautiful

  • My daughters shared this video with my wife an I, & having been involved in choirs musically, vocally, & directing. We were blown away; this young lady-whether she realized it or not-was totally anointed from above. Her complexion & emotions revealed a glimpse of heaven that we haven't seen in a long time. Excellent performance by the choir members. Thank you for sharing this video with everyone. It has greatly lifted our spirits! God Bless, your friends...The Campbells

  • THAT is real singing

  • im doing this song for my next concert and im goin out for the solo.

anyway the soloist is good but you can tell sometimes she either to sharp or flat. but its really good considering its a solo you form into your own. really good overall though.

  • good job. we did it a lot slower in the choir i was in... i agree with Virtuenow, it needs more emotions from the backgrounds.

  • amazing voice soloist. she killed it

  • good job; and great job to the soloist

  • the soloist is the only one expressing the right emotions and pronouncing the words the way they should be to reflect the background of this song.

  • thats a really good video :D

  • I wish the Arkansas Female All-State Choir version was on here...it's 100 times better than this...but this is pretty good though

  • my choir treble choir(director mr.raymond) had us sing this song almost every year i was in the choir the soloist were kayla and daniel!!! now its maya in elite.

  • very good im doing this solo in roman tomorrow

  • the soloest is good

  • where is the pain in the voices? They don't seem to feel the song, they are just singing.

  • Pretty good job but the begining is too stacatto. This type of song is called a surge song so when you sing those seperated notes they should be a little longer that will make the song have a different feel to it and that's what it should be like.

  • well done, well done, i wish i could sing like that

  • I once heard this song during an invitational choir recital. I walked in just as the song was starting and the soloist was a Tenor....I can actually say that i was brought to tears that day and i have been singing choral music for a long time.

Since then this song has been my favorite

    Very nicely done

  • She was okay until she got to parts where she tried to be soulful and go high. then it sounded like she couldn't sing but part of that was probably the recording

  • we are singing this song in my chorus and it is pretty boring when we do it but only cause we havent had solo auditions yet. the solo is everything. =(

  • this song always gives me goose bum,ps when we sing it. good job

  • I love this song. She sings great

  • great choral but the soloist was bad

  • As you can tell this is a HiGH School student who is very nervous! She did a really good job. FOr what it is worth coming from someone who people request to sing this song SHE DID A REALLY GOOD JOB!

  • i am SO proud to be part of this choir! GUNN CHOIR ROCKS! too bad i only joined this past year...i wold have loved to go to Italy

  • yay! i did this solo too! you did very well!!!

  • Too fast and the attack was not there at the beginning.

  • yo this girl tore this song up get 'em girl
