@dcollegeboy there is actually a series called street fighter v, made by the same group that did the movie. it prequels the anime and explores how ryu and ken learn their techniques, including, ryu's 1st meeting with sagat in jail

this anime is the epitome of popularity for street fighter, i remember being a kid in New York, Brooklyn, and kids would go fucking crazy, and we would play box in the streets, bunch of rowdy ass motherfuckers, as if they weren't high strung enough, after this anime release they would go crazy and fight and ground pound like you wouldn't believe back in the mid 90's.
