Hey bismochua, its actually quite common to have one pec larger or shaped differently than the other. Unless your doctor says its a medical issue (cant imagine it would be), I would forget about it and just work your whole chest hard. After a decade of hard lifting, your entire chest will be so big that that the differences between the pecs will not be as noticeable.
My metabolism is so freakin fast I can live off of Mcdonalds and not gain more than 1 pound, I'm a freak. Probly because I have alot of muscle on me and I'm still young, the more muscle you have, the more calories you can burn.
You definetly know your shit man...I'll hand it to ya. But I am about to turn 20 yrs old and I have no doubt that once I get into the gym for a year that I will gain 15 lbs of muscle at the very least and I'll bet all my money on that, because starting out it is easy to pack on muscle...but when you get to the point where all your muscles are filled and your bigger then it gets harder to gain more muscle, but I'v been gaining 5 solid lbs a year and that is without even hitting the gym yet!
bunch of bs, as an ecto if i followed his advice i'd never gain size. you're not supposed to cut out fat from your diet, that's retarded. you NEED fat. there's nothing wrong with eating a big mac, just so long as it doesn't become a staple in your diet. all you need to do is eat about 400 calories over maintenance to gain weight, adjust that based on whether you think you need more or less.
Scooby, what are your thoughts on High Intensity Training? I only rest for 2 days each muscle group, and perhaps over train a little by doing too many exercises on the same muscle (3 - 4). My question is, should i lower my amounts of exercises and should i rest longer?
I used to do each muscle twice a week with at least 4 and sometimes 6 exercises each at least 4 sets. What I found out is that when you workout one muscle in one day you:
1. Get MUCH BETTER GAINS
2. Get more time
3. Be less tired
And the fact is when you overtrain muscles you don't get better gains...
scooby i have been doing your new years resolution lose weight and get in shape. after monday , mine whole upper body even biceps and triceps and abs are sore . today is wednesday i'm still sore . so , should i still go on doing them even though i feel sore ?
even i can tell you that you should because the soreness means that the workout is working so even if your sore try to do your best and keep on working out
Well, I HAVE to correct you scooby. You say that you need a certain amount of proteins per meal, which is completely true, and you use a fine calorie chart, which is a bit unaccurate, but works for most people. But you say that you can LOSE wheight and GAIN muscle at the same time, but that is IMPOSSIBLE. You have to eat more calories than you use if you want to gain muscle. And that makes it impossible to combine. I just wanted everyone to know that, and not be fooled. You have to BULK!
hye man good job on the facts u hit it right on and all ur tips work and are saving me alot of money i'm only 15 but i'm 140 pounds and benching 130 -140 8-10 reps and ur tips realy help thanks man
Alright thanks for letting me know. I guess the best way to avoid muscle soreness is to stay in shape. I find it's kind of hard to find high protein low calorie food around my house. I see a tortilla had like 130 calories and 3 grams of protein. That's crazy. Nutrition is the hardest part indeed.
hey scooby, got a quick question for you. I will be soon starting a job that's probably 12 hours a day for 6-7 days a week. This job is very physical and tasking. So I will be burning a lot of caloires. How many calories do you think I should consume a day along with my workouts. I'm about 5'11 and 200-210 pounds I've been wanting to gain a lot of muscle but I fear the work of the job will burn too many calories causing me to loose muscle. Thanks.
Hey MilkmasterG, 12hr days of hard physical work is going to really be tough on your BBing but you can make it work. Two very important things, #1 workout BEFORE your work day starts because afterward you will have zero energy. Second very impt thing, make sure to eat EVERY 2hrs. Protein bars are normally not recommended for meals but they are 1000% better than nothing. They have lots of wasted sugar calories but that shouldnt be a problem. (continued)
(continued) Keep the protein bars stuffed in all your pockets and make sure you eat them at the rate of about one every two hours. Monitor your weight over the first few weeks and adjust your eating up or down as required to maintain your weight.
I played basketball at the park the other day. Muscles so sore, I was wondering if Ammino fuel is good to use to heal my sore muscles. I've been sore fore almost 2 days now.
Ammino fuel to help heal your sore muscles? Well it will certainly help make your wallet lighter. As for helping heal your sore muscles, it wont do any more than a nutritious, well balanced meal.
Great advice Scooby! I've been following your website since last year and I've gotten great results! I also add rowing and rugby to my workout so that helps stretch everything afterwards. Thanks!
hey dude theres good forearm workouts go on youtube and search How to train forearms....check out the first video from GETA6PACK there really good.....hope i helped dude
scooby made a video about nutrition and i think it could be helpful for you too. In the last 2 month i tried to eat like he announced in his video and for me it works. I am loosing weight and gain muscle. You should try it too. search for the video an you will find a lot of information. ;)
Scooby is one of the few out there who isn't after your money. Plus he's real good about showing beginners how you should perform each lift so you don't hurt themselves. Thanks Scooby! Great job
One thing I'd like to point out here. For beginners, it's possible to add considerably more than 5-10 pounds of muscle in a year. It's only after you've been lifting for about a year that the gains start to slow down.
What about mixing some whey with water and a simple carb like dextrin and drink some of it every half hour or so? Just to fill in the gaps in between meals.. would it help?
ok quick question is the 6 meals spread throught the day as in like every 4 hours so u have to get up at night to or like during the day ur awake so about every 3 hours?
Im 18 and Im In the Process of getting into better shape ( lost 20 pounds over summer) and I was wondering If doing just 30 Pushups/ Crunches everyday Is as effective as doing several sets 3 times a week ?
1 pound a week of WEIGHT LOSS based on his weigh loss program. 5 pounds a year of MUSCLE gain. Based on his body shape, I would say he ain't smoking anything. Based on your comment, I'd say you are smoking a lot...
Hey scooby i was just wondering...throughout all your years of body building and working out...what was the most weight you've ever done on bench press
From what I understand, if you look at his website, he didn't make those gains suddenly. Look at the "about scooby" tab, and you will find pictures of him over the past 25 years. He seemed to be making those gains over decades...
I have always worked out with intensity, heres the difference. Now that I'm nearly 50 and have built muscle to my genetic limit, when I workout with intensity, all I can do is maintain. If I did this same workout 20 years before, it would have made me gain 5-10lbs muscle a year.
I watched a few of your videos and like you emphasize you do a lot of slow, controlled repetitions. And you're a pretty big guy, so I'm just wondering to get to that size you must have done some heavy lifting in the gym over the past years that didn't involve such techniques, these seem more ideal for obtaining definition. I mean, they're great vids, but I doubt you got to your size through slow, controlled exercise movements. Cont'd....
Hey mikek241, nope! There is NO advantage to using weights heavier than I can control with slow deliberate form and I have never done this. You cant fool your muscles by using a heavier weight than you should be.
I will recomend no more than 90 minutes your body becomes less anobolic after being there for 1 1/2 hours. Focus dont daydream and blow through your workout
Yo Scooby what do think of this guy saying that he gained 40lbs in months! if u get a chance you should check it. You can find it under youtube as "buildmusclechallenge" This dude is saying he will be straight out and not lie on how to bulk up & gain muscle...thanks
great video :) if only info like this could be stickied at the top of every bodybuilding forum,it would stop the mass of misinformation spread around..
The problem is that every BBing forum out there is sponsored by supplement pushers who make lots of money off from making people like you think they can gain more than 10lbs muscle in a year.
I was wondering about hanging leg raises. would it get the same work out if i just lifted myself up between two chairs? as of now thats really the only way i can do them without buying a pull up bar or going to a gym.
I'm 35 years old and beginner. Isn't it too late to start ?
My other problem is I'm slim and I was skinny when I was younger, even if I eat a lot. I hardly gain mass and muscle.
I would like to expand my thorax, is it possible ?
I started workouts since 3 months. For the moment I didn't notice any change on my body but I know it's a long way to build a body (especially for slim/skinny people).
Hey Theotim92 from France, 35 is NOT old for a bodybuilder and its a perfect time to start. You have at least 10 years to gain mass. Skinny as a child, doesnt matter because everyone is a "hard gainer" when it comes to adding muscle. Check out my website and click on "Bulking Up"
Hey Scooby.. I thank a lot for your videos you helped me a lot... i have a question to you and i hope youre gonna answer it.. I'm 17 and i am thin.. it doesnt matter how much i eat and what i eat i cant get fat or gain mass... do you think i have to watch my nutrition after all ?
How young is too young to lift weights? Please check out my website in the section Basics>TeensAndBodybuilding for a full discussion. Short answer, 17 to start hardcore lifting.
For someone thats never done a sit-up, push-up or curl-up. How many should I start with and how many sets should I do? Thank you for any help you give me.
Hey Rus1six3, if you have never done crunches then please check out my crunch video, the title is "Home Ab Workout: crunch exercise for 6-pack abs". Sorry, too much info to put into the 500 chars allowed here.
I am 25 years old, and I still have a very very high metabolism. I have always been active and fit, but i have such a huge problem putting on mass. Do you have any suggestions for people with high metabolisms?
Hi, Scooby, I love your vids... I just have one question... Is it best to do Cardio before or after strength excercise? I am 13 years old and don't use any weights, I just stick with Pushups, Crunches and Pullups at my age. Thanks from the UK.
Hey tycoondel. You can do your cardio before or after, it doesnt matter. The important thing is that you do the cardio so do it whenever you are most likely to actually do it.
i have a question at wendys the 1$ double stack had 260 calories and 23 grams of protein would consuming this as a meal be good or bad for someone weighing 143 lbs
muscle milk "works" exactly the same as a nutritious meal. There is nothing magical about protein shakes. They are an acceptable but poor substitute for a real meal.
very true, thats why ive stopped using supplements, i mean, what good is gulping down shakes if your basic nutrition sucks, people should never depend on miracle muscle builders. i love your videos by the way
Hey Scooby. I recently enrolled for a membership at my local Bally's. I like to do dumbbell press a lot. I find that my chest grows well the first few times I do this exercise after taking breaks from bodybuilding. As I do these for a while, more of my front deltoids become involved and less of my chest. I also do other chest workouts after dumbbell press. I will vary my press exercise by raising dumbbells straight up like bench pressing to keep more strain on the chest muscles.
You can lift when you are younger, just don't be stupid and try to "max out" and such. When i was younger i was only allowed to do lower weight with higher reps, and the second my form got bad i was done with that exercise. It's all about form, otherwise you can have some serious joint problems as you get older.
lol 3:57 5 days a day?? wtf?? and its a pound of lean muscle a month which is 12 pounds a years that can be gained through proper lifting and nutriance
You my friend are an inspiration and a legend for making and posting all these videos. I have put on significant mass since following your exercises and tips alongside hard work and heavy lifting. Thank mate!
scoobs I have been doing your nutrition and following your intermediate workout and so far its been great! I do have a question tho, is it recommended that I leave triceps for Wed. to do them with Biceps+Back? Cause I find that my sore triceps sort of limit my Bicep workout...And, have you heard of hitting Biceps twice a week?
15 and workout? It heavily depends. Do you grow a beard? Do you have the physique of an adult? If yes, then your body is propably ready for it. If not, I don't suggest you to do it. Just remember to not max out and do low rep high weight workouts, these could be harmful to you.
Creatine? I dont think that stuff is safe whatever your age is.
Scooby, do you still get sore every time you work out? I can't seem to get sore no matter how heavy I lift or how many reps I do. Do you still make gains even if you aren't sore? And if you aren't sore from yesterdays work can you work out the very next day on the same muscles?
Also, say I lift X weight for whatever amount of reps and I can't do anymore reps with that weight so I straight away go to a smaller weight for the same amount of reps just to really burn whatever I'm working on. Is that an effective technique or should I just be concentrating on the same weight?
Why are you wearing a hat ?

5 pounds a year ?????? What do u smoke ???
1 pound a week = 4 pounds a month
l1998 2 years ago
1 pound a week of WEIGHT LOSS based on his weigh loss program. 5 pounds a year of MUSCLE gain. Based on his body shape, I would say he ain't smoking anything. Based on your comment, I'd say you are smoking a lot...

Hey scooby i was just wondering...throughout all your years of body building and working out...what was the most weight you've ever done on bench press
Shadwassasin 2 years ago
What I'm wondering is if you maintain mass and definition through the methods shown in your videos, but used other methods to attain mass?
It would be great if you could let me know how you've changed your workout over the years, to get to where you are today.
mikek241 2 years ago
From what I understand, if you look at his website, he didn't make those gains suddenly. Look at the "about scooby" tab, and you will find pictures of him over the past 25 years. He seemed to be making those gains over decades...
FreakOfMeds 2 years ago
I have always worked out with intensity, heres the difference. Now that I'm nearly 50 and have built muscle to my genetic limit, when I workout with intensity, all I can do is maintain. If I did this same workout 20 years before, it would have made me gain 5-10lbs muscle a year.
scooby1961 2 years ago
I watched a few of your videos and like you emphasize you do a lot of slow, controlled repetitions. And you're a pretty big guy, so I'm just wondering to get to that size you must have done some heavy lifting in the gym over the past years that didn't involve such techniques, these seem more ideal for obtaining definition. I mean, they're great vids, but I doubt you got to your size through slow, controlled exercise movements. Cont'd....
mikek241 2 years ago
Hey mikek241, nope! There is NO advantage to using weights heavier than I can control with slow deliberate form and I have never done this. You cant fool your muscles by using a heavier weight than you should be.

I will recomend no more than 90 minutes your body becomes less anobolic after being there for 1 1/2 hours. Focus dont daydream and blow through your workout

Yo Scooby what do think of this guy saying that he gained 40lbs in months! if u get a chance you should check it. You can find it under youtube as "buildmusclechallenge" This dude is saying he will be straight out and not lie on how to bulk up & gain muscle...thanks

great video :) if only info like this could be stickied at the top of every bodybuilding forum,it would stop the mass of misinformation spread around..
carbunkle07 2 years ago
The problem is that every BBing forum out there is sponsored by supplement pushers who make lots of money off from making people like you think they can gain more than 10lbs muscle in a year.

I was wondering about hanging leg raises. would it get the same work out if i just lifted myself up between two chairs? as of now thats really the only way i can do them without buying a pull up bar or going to a gym.
Thanks and great vids

Hello from France,
I checked your website to plan my workouts.
Thank you for your advices ! :)
Theotim92 2 years ago
Hey Theotim92 from France, 35 is NOT old for a bodybuilder and its a perfect time to start. You have at least 10 years to gain mass. Skinny as a child, doesnt matter because everyone is a "hard gainer" when it comes to adding muscle. Check out my website and click on "Bulking Up"

Thanks Scooby.
I often visit your website ;)
Best regards.

How young is too young to lift weights? Please check out my website in the section Basics>TeensAndBodybuilding for a full discussion. Short answer, 17 to start hardcore lifting.

If you are like 14 and you go to school what kind of food could you take so you dont mess up your nutrition so you dont eat the food at the cafeteria

i have 2 questions scooby:
1)this diet looks expensive. can you give me an estimate of how much it would cost?
2) can gaining muscle be done without weights and just doing crunches, push ups, pull ups and dips?

I am 25 years old, and I still have a very very high metabolism. I have always been active and fit, but i have such a huge problem putting on mass. Do you have any suggestions for people with high metabolisms?

Hi, Scooby, I love your vids... I just have one question... Is it best to do Cardio before or after strength excercise? I am 13 years old and don't use any weights, I just stick with Pushups, Crunches and Pullups at my age. Thanks from the UK.
TycoonDel 2 years ago
Hey tycoondel. You can do your cardio before or after, it doesnt matter. The important thing is that you do the cardio so do it whenever you are most likely to actually do it.

Hey scooby,
Are there any benefits to using hand squeezers?
silentsneek 2 years ago
hand squeezers probably increase grip strength, or give you carpal tunnel syndrome, whichever comes first. :)

wat do you think about muscle milk
is it good???
does it work???
fidelalvarado 2 years ago
muscle milk "works" exactly the same as a nutritious meal. There is nothing magical about protein shakes. They are an acceptable but poor substitute for a real meal.
scooby1961 2 years ago
very true, thats why ive stopped using supplements, i mean, what good is gulping down shakes if your basic nutrition sucks, people should never depend on miracle muscle builders. i love your videos by the way
ChezJamesy 2 years ago
I will vary my press exercise by raising dumbbells straight up like bench pressing to keep more strain on the chest muscles.
parichtang 2 years ago
I totally agree with your statements but everyone is different and will grow completely different

This one was rly helpful!
eDDyShqipe 2 years ago
You can lift when you are younger, just don't be stupid and try to "max out" and such. When i was younger i was only allowed to do lower weight with higher reps, and the second my form got bad i was done with that exercise. It's all about form, otherwise you can have some serious joint problems as you get older.

How true is the statement that "you need calorie to build muscle" basically need a calorie surplus on top of protein to build muscle..
thanks in advance

You my friend are an inspiration and a legend for making and posting all these videos. I have put on significant mass since following your exercises and tips alongside hard work and heavy lifting. Thank mate!

scoobs I have been doing your nutrition and following your intermediate workout and so far its been great! I do have a question tho, is it recommended that I leave triceps for Wed. to do them with Biceps+Back? Cause I find that my sore triceps sort of limit my Bicep workout...And, have you heard of hitting Biceps twice a week?

Im 15 is it rite if i workout??
and what happens if i take creatine what would happen to my body ?
ratatubie 2 years ago
The short answer is "No", 15 is too young for bodybuilding. For a complete discussion, please see my website and click on Basics>TeensAndBodybuilding
scooby1961 2 years ago
Thank you :)
ratatubie 2 years ago
15 and workout? It heavily depends. Do you grow a beard? Do you have the physique of an adult? If yes, then your body is propably ready for it. If not, I don't suggest you to do it. Just remember to not max out and do low rep high weight workouts, these could be harmful to you.
Creatine? I dont think that stuff is safe whatever your age is.
The only supplement I recommend is whey protein.

guitarpwner67 2 years ago
Scooby, do you still get sore every time you work out? I can't seem to get sore no matter how heavy I lift or how many reps I do. Do you still make gains even if you aren't sore? And if you aren't sore from yesterdays work can you work out the very next day on the same muscles?
dimedizzle 2 years ago
Also, say I lift X weight for whatever amount of reps and I can't do anymore reps with that weight so I straight away go to a smaller weight for the same amount of reps just to really burn whatever I'm working on. Is that an effective technique or should I just be concentrating on the same weight?
dimedizzle 2 years ago
You can do that at certain times, "drop sets." But It wouldn't be the way to bulk up.
