The show was an original until about 1978, when it was turning into "The Tom Baker show". After that it was a parody of itself and just a vehicle for gay activism. Not against gay activism per se, just that the show itself went from being renown for being a children's show with excellent writing to being renown for being the worse, most campy show in tv history.
Okay, clueless American here... Is it just me, or does footage of that horse puppet (or one like it) show up in "The Idiot's Lantern" on one of Magpie's TV's? That's a Mark Gatiss-written episode, so it seems possible.
i think thats actually aimed at the last 2 but, lets be honest, they were pretty shit but it isnt there fault. it was the writers who fucked it up toward the end
I believe you're right that it's more aimed at Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy. Gatiss spoke highly of Peter Davison's Doctor on the Earthshock DVD documentary.
However, there is still a sly dig in the sketch at John Nathan-Turner, with the reference to the costumes worn by the last three Doctors and question marks on the lapels.
Gatiss later remarked upon watching the original broadcast of these sketches that, as soon as he heard that line again, he instantly regretted it and knew it had been a mistake. He didn't intend to be so disrespectful to any of the "Who" actors, he just made a poorly-judged joke.
i remember the first time i watched this i cried with laughter every time mark started singing the theme tune, and i agree with 'TheWhoLegends' that mark is the one whose got it completely right.
ROFLOL! OMFG... when they started to sing the theme I busted up laughing... LOL!
It's odd, I saw this way before I got into Little Britain but I did not realize it was David Williams until just now. I always thought he looked familiar when I was watching LB.
I read the information on the video before watching it. I was expecting some really horrible, 'I took video of my tv with my video camera pointed at it' and found nothing to complain about quality-wise while watching it. Thank you so much for sharing this, I got a really kick out of it!
HAHA, that was HIGHlarious. Too bad it's not a big here int he U.S. Oh well , it felt like an inside joke when you see the Tom Baker sequence in Blue Harvest

i love this...not much interest for Doctor Who but i love Mark Gatiss. the theme tune bit is amazing

Very good!
Bit nasty towards the end though. Mark Gatiss doesn't seem to have much love for the last three classic Doctors (Davison, Baker, McCoy) does he?
The equity card thing was cut out on the DVD release, as it upset the actors concerned and Gatiss later regretted it.

I can't stand David Walliams (only two comedy voices in his repertoire, and both annoying), but this was still very funny. Thank goodness for Mark!
